Hi all,

If you listen to Solla thudikudhu manasu, Kalyana Parisu, "Oru Kiliyin thanimayilae" song (forget film name) from LPs on a decent TT they will beat any modern or so called Digital recording. Sadma is another recording, made in Bombay, personally mixed by KersiLord, that will stand the test of time & technology.

If possible, can you post spek results of any such good recordings. You should be able to save as 24bit/192Khz wav file and extract the results. I have spent lot of time, effort and money for collecting the audio CDs. But, i am not sure whether to take the plunge into vinyl.

I have attached the spek results of Oru Kizhiyin song from "Distinguished Duets of Yesudas" from Oriental. Vaa Vennila song from Mella thirunda Kadhavu by AVM Audio.

and What is the inference from the above? rgds

I have attached vinyl rip of Hotel California and also a badly recorded album. You can see the frequency response extension visibly. In good recordings, there will not be any hard delimiter of frequency (flat lines). They allow natural decay even if the spectrum is above our listening capacity. Modern recordings sacrifice this dynamic range so that they can amplify the signal. Amplification is a costly process. You need a very good system to reproduce good dynamic range. So, modern music directors go for compressed, amplified recordings which will sound loud enough in any system.

Hotel California - Excellent recording. Really high dynamic range.
Sara sara sara kathu - Decent recording. But, amplified. Peaks are not visible. Less dynamic range.
Billa - Really bad recording. Utter disrespect for audio quality.

Frankly why go into all these analysis is my take. what use if the sound is good but the song is bad. For me song quality counts rather than the sound quality. !!.rgds

True. But, it is useless to invest in a DAC, amp, preamp or speakers with out good quality of source.

of course. To each his own! one can have all these and listen to Junk in Supreme quality! and the otherway round too!

Hi

I came to know about the remastered cds of Ilaiyaraja Muthusamy(Honeybeemusic.com)

Is it worth buying? Also which is better DTS or HIFI

Please give an opinion

Hello Narayanan,

People have different opinion about the Honeybeemusic CD. In simple It would sound good in case you had chance to listen Raj's music only in MP3 or Radio not in LP\FAC\WAV.

Coming to DTS and HIFI- Just go for Hifi- Which is stereo and give a try with few CD's. Do you have any list of Albums which Muthusamy shared with you?

He said a total of 37 cds. Didnt give the list of names.

So HI FI cds are th best option? Any particular reason why DTS is not good?

Also can you tell me which all to buy
