I just started revisiting Ilayaraja Hits in Original CDs.

Thanks to the one who gave me in FLAC format Ilamai Idho Idho from Sakalakala Vallavan. This song I could have heard 100s of times at home, and also during every newyear this is played everywhere.

But when I heard in loseless format it was an amazing experience, (mind you i heard it in a complete non-audiophile system, Pioneer VSX-521 and Mission M30i + MS8 in 2.1). SPB started sounding more thumping, heard new instruments and details were much accurate. The same song i had in mp3 format was sounding so poor. I immediately popped in the original DVD (from moserbaer) and checked the quality of the audio, and found it to be worse than mp3.

In few weeks I could get some 10CDs of Ilayaraja in his 80s.

Looking to buy more but not getting enough option in online stores.

Whenever I visit TN Audio CD shopping is going to be in big way. Also will hunt for some vinyl in good condition.

Raja is great.

I am also looking for some vintage Ilayaraja collection in audio CD/any lossless format. I have only the crappy mp3 collection which is not doing any justice. Looking for recommendation of well mastered CDs of Ilayaraja especially from 80s.

Flac from CDs? I am not sure we have that many quality conversions of maestro's movies from cassette to CD

dear all. Just returned home after watching the maestro perform live here in chennai today. Along with yesudas,chitra and spb and many others. With his orchestra it was a musical treat. The pick was the title score of his film azagarsamiyin kudhirai which was released this year. The piece was played by a team of musicians fm the budapest symphony orchestra. This maestro never ceases to amaze me!rgds.

I have added few CDs into my collection the last 2 weeks..

I can't recommend the revival hits where the remastering sounded very unnatural. The mastering of other CDs are mostly good. One or two songs had tape hiss. But, mostly the recording was good.

I read in a magazine that says that all songs of raja are being cleaned and remastered by a professional team from coimbatore..I don't know the credibility of the info for it was written as a tit bit news...we will have to wait and see.

Hi gannyboy,

Most of Raja's songs released as CDs by Oriental Records are not upto mark, but the LP version by ECHO Recording are good, even in that some recording/ pressing issues are still there. Overall the LPs sound better than the CDs.

Some of his film albums released by Universal Music(erstwhile Polydor) sound really good eg. Alaigal Oyvathillai, TikTikTik, kadal Meengal etc.

If the news of remastering is true and the end product is made available commercially, its a real good news for all of raja's fans.

I purchased all the AGI Music CD's which were released recently ....they are better than the oriental ones...

New ones are releasing around April 15th as per Agimusic.com

Naan Thedum Sevanthi Poo Idhu & Poo Malayeh from the title " Love King " rocks in my Marantz CD ...unlike those oriental ones , which had the same songs and sounded very bland ..


@matbhuvi - That CD "Hits of Ilayaraaja - vol 1 " - wherein he has a guitar in his hand - can u confirm if the CD is a silver CD or a CD-R type CD which sometimes you find in Saregama retail CD's

Sorry for the late reply. The CD has a silver colored label with letters printed in black..

Agi music cds sounding good! Better than oriental.software at work. As agi doesnt have the original masters.fyi.
