Hi all I have just purchased the 90s technics SU X502 amp with matching speakers. Having read various articles I'm under the impression that class A amps are designed to get warm and can handle it. When I'm playing mine after about 5 mins whatever the volume it does start to get warm, but I'd say it's very warm, not hot. What should I do about this, if anything?

Secondly, being an old amp (that still fetches a price by the way)I want to make sure that I prolong its life as long as possible so are there any simple things I can do? I've thought of using a small fan and directing it onto the vent, or taking the back cover off and removing dust, could these be reasons for amp getting too warm?

Thanks

Your amp is not a class A amp. Or at least it is more closely related to its Class AB brethren than class A ones. Give it sufficient ventilation, but don't worry too much.

Hi,
My late 80's Luxman M06a class A starts running quite warm in about 15 min. By the end of an hour the top plate is quite hot touch. I ensure enough ventilation around it. Never had issues or shutting down even after a couple hours. This would be it's first summer with me lets see.
BTW it starts to sound so much more wonderful as it gets hotter.
