Its raining vintage TTs

Congrats Sachin. I know you were looking for a Lenco for quite a while. God has granted your wish. It is the most undervalued TT in my opinion. Many people write off the stock arm as the weak link but if you have got one in good condition, they can perform really well. Mine does.

Thank you Sir.I don't have a stock arm.FM Raghunadh is sending me a tonearm from Pioneer Pl-A25.I feel it will perform better. Its very different from any other Pioneer model. Its a straight tonearm with angled headshell. Here are some pics.

Sachin,
I had the same player and arm. I think it was made for Pioneer by NEAT Japan because the arm very much resembles the NEAT arm on my JP player. I think it is a unipivotal arm. It should perform well if in good shape

Dear Sachin, this was my wish to do lot of DIY in simplest TT. I wanted only little mechanical parts with least electronics in it. Thank you for guiding me. This is my Thorens TD-150, acquired some time back. This is Thorens TD-150 MKii - motor, platter and plinth, that's all!

Waiting for tonearm, mat, dustcover. Now works flawlessly without any play or motor noise.

Great going Mishraji. Aapne to kamal kar diya. Nice TT indeed in very nice shape. Why don't you look for a SME 12inch arm(if the arm board can fit). Otherwise a 3009 is not very difficult to find on the bay. You can try cork sheet for mat. I've used anti-skid cloth(also called elephant skin locally) used in car etc. on my G301 and it works really nice. Dust cover shd not be very difficult for you.

Vintage Zindabad........!!!!!!!

Very nice looking TT Om,waiting pics of your tonearm.

Sachin

10/30 oil is usually required for cars in colder countries. You will find 10/40 oil. You need just a few drops so if you can find a car workshop from where you can salvage a an engine oil can, you will have sufficient drops to use.

Grease is available from motor vehicle parts store. Ask for the squueze out type.

Is that Mobil-1 fully synthetic 5W40 for car? I have some, can it be useful for Lenco?

Thanks Joshua,
I have some Mobil 10W-40 fully synthetic oil.I asked same question at LH,but they say automobile oil is not recommended due to additives. They have suggested fully synthetic compressor oil SAE 10,20 or 30 grade. They also recommended Lithium based grease, which I think never gets harden.I have a normal grease,I don't know whether it is usable in this application.

Sachin

If you find synthetic compressor oil SAE 10, 20 or 30 grade, then let us know the brand and model.
I feel you will easily find Lithium based grease.

Sachu,

Look for following grease available in the market with NLGI consistency number
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NLGI_consistency_number

NLGI 2.5 & NLGI3, both are lithium based. Almost all oil co's should be offering them in the local market, as they are commonly used for greasing wheel bearings in the automotive sector.

Example Castrol lists both of these grades available in the local market

Castrol India - Castrol Premium Formula Gel

Castrol India - Castrol Premium Long life Grease

Mobil 1 is fully synthetic oil, available in minimum 1ltr packing, costs a bomb though! :(

Shafic,

Let us little more on how you got this and what condition is this in?

Cheers.

Hi Mr. Anilva, recently Mr kuruvilla suggested that i could ask you for some advice about Thorens 125 markII. The LENCO has given opportunity to discuss with you.
Frankly, i came to know about the praiseworthy Lenco L 75 only recently. I have lot of contacts here due to my Books store & wholesale business. Few days back i just enquired about this TT, yesterday i got a call from a source and by evening i got it home. This is my simple story behind lenco.

Today i had my TT technician come over to my house and got all my my TTs checked( long time pending). In case of Lenco there was speed variation at 33 rpm, which he rectified with a simple small ball pen spring and it is working perfectly.. now!.. pls don't scold me:D, it is a temp measure. I ill give her a complete make over. Any advice most welcome.
At present i am occupied with SL 1100 makeover..
Now i have decided i am going to keep the following TTs and the remaining i will dispose one by one.
Technics SL 1100, Duals 1019 & 1229, Fisher MT 6225, Lenco l 75,cosmic cogram 4000 and Pioneer Pl 11.

Yes sir,you are right. I appreciate :clapping:your precise judgement from a 'not very good' photo. would like to hear your valuable suggestion.Thanks.

Not a very easy answer..the plastic idler wheel ideally needs to be replaced with a metal one as it contributes to noise. There are lots of these available on ebay..better grab one before prices increase .

The best thing you can do for your lenco at this time is to remove the current plinth and mount it on a really heavy plinth. Since a new one takes time, remove the current plinth and rest the top plate on bricks ( one or more stacked on each corner) . That will get you the best benefit..the plinth it comes with us the worst thing you can do for your lenco !

All the other tweaks will only show up once you do this basic change :). Just remember the philosophy that the higher you mass load it ( ie min suspension) the better the benefit

The lenco is one of the simplest idler wheel tts and very easy to maintain . Today there are lots of spares also available. Lencoheaven is a great forum to be part of and with lots of useful info.

Over the last couple of years I have put a new plinth, replaced the idler wheel, bearing, damped the idler arm, damped the top plate etc etc.but nothing beats getting rid of the original plinth with its horrible suspension .

Shafic,

Dismantle everything, clean up and replace any worn out parts. I am sure there are Lenco spares available. Also if the idler is not the original, replace it. You seem to have a TT mechanic, that should help. Such good TTs like Lenco L75 should be preserved in pristine condition and not just allow it to be used in any bad condition.

Cheers.

Sir, could you please elaborate more on the characteristics of the stock L75 arm, and what are the strengths and weeknesses compared to the much popular arms? Apart from changing the V block bearings, are there any other mods which can thake it to the higher league?
