Just bought Yamaha YHT-299

i'm a newbie to the forum and have been following these threads over the past few months to decide for a good htib package and have a couple of questions.

What is the difference between yht 299 and yht 2910 ?

As per official compares i could see a few the 2910 has over 299:
A) virtual cinema front
b) dts digital surround(is it really missing in the 299/what is the downside of not having this in 299)

should i go ahead and buy the yht299 or 2910 given the online price gap is just 4k on snapdeal?


Also should i instead ask someone to get rx-v 377 from us as it costs merely 15k there on amazon etc and then buy speakers here?

Or should i hold on for a few months so that 2910 prices might drop further?

My setup

i live in a rented apartment and would like to play music and movies equally.

Tv- samsung 40"f5500
blu ray -samsung f5500
stb- videocon d2h hd

i am confident in the quality reviews you folks give out here and this will be my first htib.

and one more difference is extra bass..is it really extra bass in yht-2910??
 
Hi Anoopes,

Not sure how far these online portals work for HTiB, but its available in snap deal :). May be you can call them and check for availability.

I know that. But Snapdeal will not deliver to my place. And somewhere in this forum, I read that they are not dependable.

I believe extra bass option was there in YHT299 as well,the specific differences are listed on Yamaha US website and extra bass wasnt one of them.

Anyways no YHT299 in bangalore :cool:,min quoted price for 2910 is ard 42k ..not sure if it's worth it..so chucked the idea altogether till I find a piece of 299.
 
Friends: Quick help required. My little kid pressed some random buttons in the remote. Now the problem I am facing is, when I view movies played via USB on my LED TV, the straight mode selected on AVR shows 2.1 channels and it says the decoder is OFF and it shows as PCM - Even though the movie is by default 6 channels. Please note these are the same movies which were playing in 5.1 even in straight mode and shows the decoder as Dolby digital etc., just before my kid played with the remote.

I tried with some movies which I earlier enjoyed in 5.1 surround sound in straight mode. the problem is still the same as it now plays in 2.1 with decoder off and showing PCM.

I am unable to fix this issue. please guide.

Update: I fixed this issue now. The TV Audio output had a option digital out as PCM / Auto. It was turned to PCM. After turning to Auto now it's working. Problem solved. THere are many options my kid is able to get from the remote which is normally not visible to my eyes... :)

so bad... I am sure some experts hear would help you fixing this. But I wanted to know when you use these options? for music or movies? when the movie is decoded with surround sound, i prefer to use straight so that the 5.1 is activated, and don't prefer to change it otherwise.

hope you would have already went into setup to see if you have accidentally changed any settings there.

Hi PGY,

Are you trying to modify the Surround decode when you are playing from a dolby digital or a dts source? In that case Surround Decode will not work. If the source file's audio is encoded as Dolby Digital or DTS then Amp picks up that signal and will not allow us to apply custom surround decode modes.
It should work when you are playing from a 2 channel Source. Can you tell what does Audio Decoder show in the Amp when you are not able to access surround decode.

Even i checked the same to change but it was not allowed to do. whereas in Pioneer 322k we can change the surround effects watever the source. don't know about Denon

Hi Sandeep,

Thanks buddy, I was trying to play some audio CD's, i was able to change those decode modes previously, but now am unable to, may be ill play around sometime tomorrow and let you know.

Thanks..actually i'm even shy of hitting 40k with 2910..else i will put all plans on hold..no signs of 299@ bangalore so I would abort else negotiate real hard for 2910.I don't want an impulse buy burning a hole so maybe will wait only.
 
Last batch of YHT 299 was imported on Jun 2014. so I think importer has already stop importing this. while they are still importing yht 196
 
did you check with Thomson Music House (Bangalore) ? i bought from them only. They have 2-3 branches in Bangalore
 
OK. Reliance digital at phoenix Mahadevapura, Whitefield, had a demo piece when i visited their show room 2 months back which I rejected, but it might still be in good condition, you can check with them, in case you are OK with it...
