Lets talk about blurays--movies/ scenes/audio/pq /repeat values

Watched following movies on Blu-ray recently,

1. Top Gun : This movie is one of my favorite movies, I just love fighter planes and this one is absolute gem for me just for the planes. Anyway, bought this movie with high expectations and in the first scene(name casting) I was bit disappointed as the scene looked bit soft and noisy(not the intentional noise but the one you see due to underexposure) but after the movie just took off like a F14 Tomcat and I fall in love again. To add to the topping it had DTS-HD-MA track (I found it later) and what a revelation it was. The fighters just rocked the whole house and the Danger Zone never sounded better, sorry neighbours for the trouble.;)

2. The Rock : I liked the actions of this movie a lot and I wanted to see how things look in Hi-def and wasn't I delighted!!! This one is transfered pretty well and the scenes were really standing out. The soundtrack was also very good with the LPCM track. Recommended.
3. Forrest Gump : I watched this movie long time back(that too in VCD) and wanted to watch it in high-def. I won't talk about the exceptional acting of Tom Hanks or the story of the movie. But the visuals were really amazing with this hi-def transfer. Loved the scenes of America during Forrest's run or the road to his house at Greenwood Alabama or the lake where he watches the sunset or the tree where Forrest and Jenny climbs up as kids. All of them looked so life like and real. Soundtrack is DTS HD-MA and is quite good although it's not anything earth shaking types.

Note to self: I should order "Into the Wild" and "Cold Mountains" just for the visuals.

Body of Lies:- Region Free, DolbyTrueHD audio(special fearutes in stereo), 1080p video.
This is a good BD to linger in ones collection. Story is good, PQ is good as well and audio too. Nice detailed special features with an alternate ending.

cheers.

Master and Commander

I have watched the opening battle scenes around 10 times (not seen the full movies yet). The cannon shells seem to burst into your room. Its an amazing sequence and you will love it in a good setup.

Terminator 2 : Even though it's a old movie it still looks good. Colors are bit muted for most of the scenes with a bluish tinge but I think the movie was shot like that and it supposed to look like that. The extended edition have some extra scenes. And it does have a nice sound track on DTS HD MA. Region locked for A.
Band of Brothers : I would probably rate this a one of my best buys, not in terms of PQ(there are many other which have better PQ) but for the immense value for money with much better picture quality than the DVD version. This is how I wanted to watch BoB and I'm really happy with it. Although the night scenes are quite grainy sometimes. Soundtrack is DTS HDMA and it's really good. But overall a great experience. Watched 3 episodes till now and will be completing the rest by this weekend. This is a must have in Blu-ray I believe. Region Locked for A & B.

Avatar : This is the best Blu ray release till date. I just finished watching this movie. There are lots of reviews already available over the net about this blu ray, nothing new to add.
Guys if you own a BD Player, irrespective of how you felt about the movie, please do your self a favor just get it for its PQ and SQ you won't regret it.

For the people who are still with DVD players, a perfect reason to upgrade to Blu ray.Dark Knight is the reason for me to move into BD and this movie turned ten times better.

Language: English 5.1 DTS HDMA, Hindi,Tamil,Telugu 5.1 DD.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Dead Man's Chest
Pirates of the Caribbean: At the World's End

A WaltDisney release, region free BD and 2 disc editions. Good PQ and SQ, but unfortunately no HD audio track, wonder why??. A huge amount of Extra features, it took me 4 hrs to complete each BD. Saw the trilogy back to back spanning almost 12hrs. Really enjoyed it on my 46"TV, wonder how it would be on 120" screen.:licklips:

cheers.

Hey aneelr, let us plan to watch the trilogy(in one stretch) sometime at my place. What do you say?

@konfused: Topgun is a fantastic movie, I own it in DVD. Good to know the transfer to BD has been good. Just love the fighter plane scenes and the sound of the Kawasaki bike he rides. Need to buy the BD soon, where did you buy it from? Is it regionfree?

The Incredible Hulk

The roars of the Hulk and his fight with his enemy has some really nice effects. I had watched the Eric Bana/Ang lee version and this one was so much better esp. on BD.

HERO (Special Edition)

A Disney/Bunea Vista release. The PQ and SQ is really awesome. The DTS-HD-MA audio was good, but it was available only for the English language dub. The original Mandarin language audio was DD 5.1, but enjoyable. A must have BD IMO.

cheers.

Hey I bought it from Crosswords at JP Nagar. It's region free. Yeah, those fighter plans scenes are awesome and I wanted to have that bike when I first show the movie ;-) . BTW, if you like it so much then you can try my BD.

I though I might as well add my 2 cents to this thread.......

AVATAR BR .... just using the same lines from my AVATAR BR Review.....

Today I watched the movie once again with my friends and let me tell you, visual clearity in this movie is STUNNING.....no match, and Audio is no more less. The scene where the marines blow off the tree, the LFE shook my whole bed (and kept on with the same effect in the entire battle sequence), it was thunderous. When jake takes that first flight on his choosen bird (or whatever) A/V extravaganza is on it bliss. The wings flapping is put on LFE and that gives a whole new experience to the scene.........the zapping of arrows and bullets are right on the spot, explosions are all earth shaking with center channel never leaving its power......

I believe this BR is a one that should be owned by every WMIHT (Watching Movie in a HT) fan......it sets a standard of its own and even if the movie was OK for you......., you would sill so very much enjoy the audio-visual treat this disc offers........A must recomenced for all collectors....

Hi,

I'll check once more for the HD audio, but even bluray.com site mentions only DD/DTS 5.1........not sure.

And what did you not like in it, the story, PQ, SQ, vfx.........????

cheers.

BARAKA

A MPI Media Group release, region A and DTS-HD-MA. Good PQ/SQ. A very good documentary film shot entirely without the usage of any dialogue, just sound and images, on six continents and in 24 countries, exploring the formation and evolution of Earth, the ascendance of man and the consequences of technology.

Definitely a must have in one's collection.

cheers.
