Lets talk about blurays--movies/ scenes/audio/pq /repeat values

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Cujo-Blu-ray6865/

considering this to be a 1983 release the BD transfer is spot on , in fact the PQ is brilliant.
SQ ---- DTS HD MA ,u cant expect big bangs here considering the age of the movie (abt 27 yrs old) but still i wud say its amazing

THE MOVIE--was shit scared when i first saw this abt 25 years back when in school, so was not too sure how this flick wud fare in present times with all the advanced technologies. but to my surprise this movie creates the same magic even today (thanks to the flawless BD transfer)

This is the screen adaptation of Stephen kings horror/thriller novel , its the story of a St bernard dog bitten by a Rabbid bat and slowly transforms into evil and terrorises a community and tears up a few people and holds up a mother and child in a car ----the rest of the story is how things unfold and will the mother and child holed up in the car escape the huge monstrous bernard-------CUJO is spine chilling and fearsome and there are moments to make u jump out of your seat

IF u like the mild horror /thriller types which slowly builds up pace ,this is awesome stuff

special feature includes a 3 part series on the making of the movie which is a very interesting watch

MY RAting for the BD - 8/10

Hi,

Just saw the BOURNE series back to back today, and just as Mr.Venkat has mentioned, this is an awesome movie to be watched on a bluray. The background score is really good and crystal clear, overall SQ of the bluray is also awesome, and the specially the alternate starting/ending were really interesting. This is a must have in the collection.

cheers.

Hi,

This week I saw 300 and Die Hard Series. The PQ and SQ are amazing in both the movies.

Just to see what is special with DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD, I tested some scenes from 300 and Die Hard using DVD rips and blu-ray.

In 300
1. The scene where the King Leonidas kicks the messenger: This is very subtle and I could not see any explosion-like effect in DVD
But in blu-ray, I could feel the kick as if I was kicked in the movie.
2. Also, the scene where arrows are pouring on the 300 battalion, again the sound effect is amazing in the blu-ray, I could feel every arrow hitting the ground and the shields.

In Die Hard 4, the following scenes are stunning in blu-ray than DVD, at least x20 times better.
1. The explosion scene at Matt Farrell's apartment.
2. I guess, the scene in which the next generation fighter plane F45 (??), which needs no run away can climb like a chopper, flies through the bridge, the whole room was shaking and again, the effect is very subtle in DVD.

I highly recommend these titles to be seen at lease once in blu-ray.

Cheers!

Hi,

Yesterday saw Matrix Trilogy back to back. For the first time I saw a movie at 0dB vol. and the HD audio was simply fantastic. PQ is good as usual. Surround sound was done well. And at last the extras which is as long as the movie. Really informative.

A must have BD for sound enthusiasts.

cheers.

Anyone has any idea about Blu-Ray movies cost in Dubai or Muscat, are they comparable to US prices or same as in India???

anybody got chance to see Mission Impossible series on blu ray.
How is the transfer? Particularly wanted to know about extras like extended cut, deleted scenes or any alternate versions like Bourne series.

It is one of my first box set collection in 2007 next to spiderman & RE. For me the PQ is OK but SQ is not so attractive and lack puch. I have MI-1,2 & 3 in DVD and the DTS soundtrack in DVD is much better than BD.

I feel the PQ is good upgrade to DVD and the rating is inbetween.. Cannot score 5 star. If you are an fan go for it or wait for rerelease later

Hi , I will get my BD player sometime early next week along with Planet earth BD. I am wondering if there is any place in Bangalore for BD rent apart from Mothays. I am also planning to buy some hollywood titles to start with but not sure about spending Rs:1000 for every movie.
Anyone in this forum interested in renting their collection, happy to pick it up for Rs 100 for 2 days ( no problem even its a bit more ) I know those BD's are too close yo your heart and not everyone will share but if someone is ready then I will pick it up. Think about it , end of the day we can watch more movies at less cost .

Recently watched a few Blu-rays and here are my impressions,

The Dark Knight : An amazing movie with awesome Hi-Def picture in Blu-ray. Basically I'm comparing other movies with this one for PQ.
Planet Earth : Haven't watched it fully, but oh boy, isn't our planet so beautiful. A must have in Blu-ray. Only watched the 1st disc.
Bourne Identity/Bourne Supremacy: Although both are very good movies but the PQ is not upto mark. I felt like watching a upscalled DVD many a times. And actually many times the actors faces were not in focus during close up shots(this is not an issue with the blu-ray but with the shoot itself I guess). I was bit disappointed. Still to watch Bourne Ultimatum.
Matrix: Love the transfer of this movie, looks very good on Hi-Def. I'm waiting for the other two sequels to reach me soon.
Troy : Again a very good transfer, it looks really good.
Cars: Amazing, yes and looks very very colorful. But somehow I feel that the animations looks good even in DVD too.
Black Hawk Down: Good transfer for a good movie.
Pirates of the Caribbean (Curse of the black pearl) : Very good, next to TDK in terms of PQ . I'm a big fan of this series and I'm waiting eagerly to watch the other two parts in Blu-ray.
Transformers: Looks good but I'm not big fan of the grainy images though. But the sound is smashing in few action scenes.

On queue: Star Trek, Bourne Supremacy, Forrest Gump.

Note: Got Band of Brothers and it's region locked for AB. No playback in region C  Now need to buy a region A player ;-)
Disclaimer : I didn't noticed too much about the noise and other stuff to give a very critical review. This is basically how I felt while watching these movies. I've watched all these movies (except Planet Earth) in DVD before and hence could feel the difference. Can't tell much about the sound quality as my setup still doesn't have good speakers.

Black Hawk Down: Good transfer for a good movie.

.

Two points against your view.

Bourne series is having a good transfer and it is one of the movie to be seen in big screen and one of the major and impressive point is you will travel along the movie and very less scenes we can point it out to be stable... You will go along with the scenes and 1st part and 3rd part is best in the series and very brilliantly taken.

Regarding Black Hawk Down... you are not fan of the grainy images right...Hey the movie is full of grain .. How come you are telling good transfer..May be my copy is like that,,, Please check and revert it is grainy or smooth transfer...... and your comments on tranformers is indicating that it is grainy, it is one of the best transfers and best sound mixing for an big screen enjoyment.

Movie is awesome, I've never said anything against the movie. But as I said I compared the PQ to that of TDK and I found it to be legging. To say the least I was bit disappointed as I was expecting a blu-ray to be much better looking. I felt that many times the critical focus is missing and pic was soft. Well, that's what I felt.

Well, I had the crappiest original copy of Black Hawk Down in DVD and I was almost crying while watching that DVD. Hence this Blu-ray looked so much better than the DVD version and the movie looked good to me. Hence the comment.
Transformers transfer is good but it's grainy and hence I kind of felt it to be similar to the DVD copy. I'm not saying the transfer is bad but with the grains it kinda just look similar to DVD. And may be this is not the correct way to compare.
Again, I must re-iterate, this all are my own comparative views, not some serious critical view of a movie critique.

First dont worry i am re-iterating, just for fun what i felt and you felt.. Nothin serious in forum here... Just a hint if there is no grain and it is soft it will be an animation movie:lol:

Yes, may be slightly disappointed with PQ, but the grainy is intended to give a flimy look like lot of films which is this kind of genre and the shaky cam(handheld) effect makes you move along the movie. So admiring thing is faithfully reporducing the book into an movie and keeps the people in edge. However series 2 cannot be taken like since sequel starts in India and fall apart with indian style:lol:lot of past scenes(flashback)

Hmm, bluray transfer is also typical to watch in big screen. No change..But the grains are intentional..
