Lg 50pk550 r

well bnsbhat if you would believe me then i can tell you that these are manufactured in India only, they are not imported from Korea, now the source from which this comes is my paternal uncle ( Chaacha G) who is at a very high post in the customs and excise department, and while i was on the lookout for my display, only 1 dealer in my city had the LG display with him and that too only 1 piece, and he was asking 66K from me for it, with no margin for bargain, but when i saw that people were getting it for far lower amount (some got it for 62k). I inquired the dealer about this, and he gave me a reason that he gets the set from LG India whereas dealers in the south of India (cities like mangalore, bangalore, mumbai etc.) get these sets imported from Korea and thats why they have a larger leg room for bargaining. But i didn't buy this argument, because that was a lucid argument, it cannot be that LG an estbd. company would sell it products differently in different parts of the country (it just didn't make any sense to me), so i asked my uncle to enquire about this, and he confirmed that they are made in India only (Noida to be precise), and are not imported from Korea, so i got back to the dealer with what i had found out and he was speechless (as i thought), but since he was the only one having this display in my city, then i couldn't bargain too much and had to buy it for 64,800, ( i could have got it for a far lesser price had i waited but since i didn't wanna miss world cup which comes after 4 years for a couple of 1000 bucks), so anyways, i can tell you for sure that these sets are made in India only, if the dealer/friend you are talking to , quotes a high price and then gives the importing from Korea as a reason for it it would be my suggestion to be cautious.

very nice pics, the batman wallpaper was not a full HD wallpaper and that is why it wasn't looking good on my display as well, but rest of the pics are very good. Wishing you best of luck and hoping u enjoy it.

What I liked in that batman pics was that the black area in the wallpaper and the surround black was indistinguishable in my TV.

These pics don't do the justice at all. These pics are all blurry.

Caution to potential buyers: Don't make any buying decision based on these pics. For me these pics looks lot inferior that what I get to see in real.

Also one more suggestion to all is, try to get a home demo if your friends have a TV. The TV in my house looks lot better than any PDPs in the showroom. Wish the TV dealers had a facility where we can ask them to get a demo set to home and do a trial ;)

That is great improvement from last year models than. I specifically used this picture for the demo last year. The outcome was dissapointing.

Well, that is an unwritten rule in case of plasmas. If you curtain your room, the PQ will improve more.

There is FHD version of the wallpaper.. Need to look for it in the net..

Well I totally agree pics don't do justice to what we see in reality, all i can say is that i am enjoying my world cup, i mean that was the main reason i bought this display, and the PQ of ESPN HD on TATA sky is excellent, even in it's break in period i couldn't have asked for more, i had a slight uniformity issue but that is all gone now, the only thing left is the expert mode which i hope somehow could be enabled via service menu.

@ BLASTO I tried searching for it the other day, when u posted it but couldn't find one, tried googling batman FullHD wallpaper and few other word combos with no success.

Are you planning to curtain the windows?
BTW, The snaps are awesome. You are a better photographer than you might think.. ;)

Thanks Blasto.

Getting curtains is indeed on the todo list. But to be frank, when I am watching I dont get bothered unless I consciously look for the reflection. I know it affects the black level. So will get the curtains soon. :)

But its definitely not unwatchable as some of my friends would say when I was refering to buying a Plasma :p

What was the pic settings you used during your demo?
I am keeping all settings at 50 and may be so I am getting deep blacks.

I am waiting for your take on this TV and comparison with C550 :)

:yahoo: So i have finally bought the LG 50PK550 R, i will keep you guys posted on every single detail from the moment it arrives, so that u can benefit from all this, final price was 64,800/- , will post high quality pics taken with my canon powershot SX20IS. Also any suggestions that you guys have or anything you want me to look for i am ready to listen and help with whatever i can.

Well i was on the edge about this set since they only had 1 piece in stock, but then i said what the heck and i pulled the trigger, i went to the godown in person to see the piece with my own eyes, so that i can be sure that it's not a display peice, i also asked the dealer why he only had 1 peice and he said that there storage is very less so they have limited stock and i saw it with my own eyes the storgae was very small so i was pretty much convinced that the reason is a good enough valid reason, so that led to my decision of buying it today.

I will be using this for gaming on PS3, for cable Tata Sky HD, for movies probably upscaled DVD's or Blu ray of very good Hollywood titles only.

UPDATE 1 7:34P.M. --> So it has arrived. First of all for all those who were asking about it's power consumption the input wattage written on the box is 480W, i am posting pics as well so u can see it for yourself.

Also i read in another thread where someone was asking whether this has a 5A plug or a 15A one, well i have had a look and the plug is a 5A one, and not the power plug one

Input Wattage Detail - Also I don't know if it is the same as it's consumption value but i am assuming that they are 1 and the same thing, but either way here is the pic

Just wanted to know what has been your change in electricity bills, have you been able to deduce the actual wattage consumed. Thanks

Okay if I answer your question the way you have asked it, it won't help you in any way,

First of all the plasmas are power hungry is bullSH!T CR@P which has been propogated by misinformed people and companies alike, no doubt plasma's consume more power than LCD's but the phobia that has been created is far from the truth.

Now with that being said, it is true that Plasmas are more power hungry than LCD because of the fact that every pixel has its own illumation whereas in LCD it has a single light source.

Now plasma will consume max power when the pixels are illuminated to the the extreme end of the greyscale, which is when there is a white screen being displayed, which will not happen, under normal viewing conditions, on an avergae Lg models consumes 250 watts/hour.

Now lets do the calculation
at 250W your power consumption = .25KW
let us take NDPL cost per KWH = 3.48 Rs.
taking you run the TV for 10 hours a day, which is more than above average, if you ask me.

Now total power consumption = 2.5 KWh per day
Total cost = 2.5 * 3.48 = 8 rupees and 70 paise

Now monthly bill at this rate = 8.7 * 30 = Rs. 261

Now keep this in mind this is the total power consumption of your plasma with a very big assumption that you are viewing it for 10 hours everyday non stop, plus if the Plasma is replacing an older TV, that will also be factored in since u were already consuming power then also.

NOW YOU TELL ME DO YOU STILL THINK PLASMA ARE POWER HUNGRY. Don't let such kind of people tell u different, they try to misguide people to fill their own pockets.

Hope this helps !!

Guess you have put it very rightly mate...

very nicely explained mannu.. hats off :clapping:

Nice one there Mannu. I totally agree with you. I just took delivery of an LG 50PJ560 plasma on Saturday evening. Yet to check out power usage etc. In any case I am not so concerned as I am more bothered about picture and sound quality. Airtel HD DTH is installed too. Looks good. 75 days free offer. The PJ560 has fantastic sound and this is something that has to be heard to believe. Dialogues sound clear and even music is very nice to hear, with decent bass and treble. This is without adjusting any sound settings. All other picture settings are of course in Cinema mode with levels at 55 or below. I shall be posting a new thread on my new a/v setup shortly with some good pics.

First of all congratulation are in order:clapping:, i saw the 560 while i was looking for a display, and really liked it, i suppose it has the edge to edge glass frame, the looks of it were really stunning, i will be waiting to see the pics and your thoughts on this display:licklips:

Thanks Mannu. Shall put the pics up shortly! It's a beautiful plasma. No doubts. Both picture and sound quality are excellent. And on top of this, it's superb value for money too.

Mannu... Thanks for the details posted. Though I purchased 50PK550 before reading these posts. I am quite satisfied & happy with the product since my purchase on 16th October. Firstly I was quite disappointed as I didnt see a Full HD or 1080p mentioned anywhere on the box, set or the manuals. However after connecting it to my system running on Intel DG45ID mainboard which has a HDMI output, I was convinced that PK550 is indeed full HD, my intention to buy one. When I played the full HD BD movies the set shows connected as 1080p, 60Hz, so I am quite happy. However I did consider PJ550 before buying PK550, I finalised PK550 as PJ550 is not full HD. I guess Venkat (VSG12777) did not realize this before purchasing.

Anyways now coming to my query... as the manual or any specifications does not mention any details about power consumptions & requirements, I was forced to search the net & found this thread. I'm happy to see the detailed power requirements & consumption info posted by you.

The reason for me checking on the power details is that the installation guys adviced me to go for a stabilizer for the set. As per them, if any problem arises to the set due to power surge they minimum repair cost would be about 16K, so they say it is better to use a stabilizer for such an expensive set. I bought it for 61,200.00 plus finance charges summing up the cost to about 65,000.00

Anyways this morning I spoke to LG service center & they adviced me to go for any stabilizer preferably a digital one with 2 amps output. So I decided on UniStab Digital 100. However on a little experimental basis I came to a opinion that 2 amps x 240 Vols will be 440 volt amps.

According to this calculation I think an APC UPS 600 VA RS series, which has built in power regulator would be a nice option to serve as a stabilizer for the Plasma display as well as a backup source for my system.

What do you have to say? Please write to me on [email protected] with your phone numbers, just in case if you feel comfortable giving the same for a personal conversation.

Awating response.
