Hi,
I can see many people have got LD650 model here so I thought lets have a owners discussion forum here.
After a long discussion, inputs from fellow forum members finally I zeroed on 47LD650 model.
Although I was quite inclined towards 50inch sammy C550 and LGPK550 plasma but in my living room a full size balcony gate is just in front the wall where we can put the display panel. Due to this I had to go for any less reflective mat finish screen. In my budget this is the only model I could see with a decent quality picture. I booked this TV on 28th Oct but it got delivered on 6th Nov as it was out of stock even with LG warehouse. For me it was big upgrade as so far I was watching 21inch CRT.
Right now its on table top and most probably Ill get it wall mounted today evening. Ive not got much time to explore the display but just saw Iron man2 (11GB Full HD BD rip) through USB. It was awesome I was very much thrilled the details and PQ. I can just see on issue is that when I was watching the movie in Cinema mode with all lights off the black were not black its dark blue but when I put any light on it looks black to me. Ive not done any pic calibration yet will try to use the pic wizard some time this week. So far I dont see any other issue with the TV.
I guess this TV has got some in built upscaling feature as yesterday I was watching Ravana movie on colors channel and from 8Feet distance it was almost like HD quality with my Tata Sky old SD setup box.
And yes I got this in 74K with Blu Ray Player but the BD player has not yet delivered. The dealer said it will take couple days to get the player.
Guys let have discussion about your impression of the panel, any suggestion, setting details etc etc

well i too bought LG LCD but not LD650. like as you mentioned , its not that i love LD460 just that i had make choice in the certain budget , i found LD650 inconsistent as per performance , in fact if you want to play games on it, eg PS3, you would want to switch true motion off , as its not consistent either.

I was thinking of opening a new thread on LD650 models but you did already, many thanks for that. I feel in this thread we should concentrate the issues and the positives sides of LD650.
1. For my 32LD650, i have slight back light bleeding, when service engg came he insisted it is there for all LCD's in this model, but he is not accepting it as a manufacturing fault, rather he was telling to check with the dealer again regarding the bleeding. After insisting he said he can replace the panel but that does not guarantee that it will go away. It may come on the other side. I am still undecided what to do ? Please see the attached link

That's the problem with LCD. You have hit the nail on the head. The black will appear as dark blue when lights are switched off. What you can try is access the menu option. Once in menu go to advanced options. There you will see GAMMA. Most probably it is set to a default value of MEDIUM. Set it to LOW, and the intensity of the blue will go down, giving you a greyish black, which in my opinion is still better than bluish black. (OR you can go to the BLACK LEVEL option and change the value to HIGH). I guess LCD is not ideal for watching in complete darkness. If you still want to watch in darkness while retaining the intensity of black then you can put a low light source just behind the TV or a little to the side in such a manner that the glare does not hit you. You should see a marked improvement.
And yes the upscaling features are good. Even normal cable looks good.

Congrats on your purchase. So how is the experience of playing counterstrike on a 42 incher?

Hi too had back light bleed issue with my new 32 LD650. I got that one replaced. You should go for a replacement since its a new TV. Also check the replacement piece for any bleed.

People what you are describing is an inherrent problem of LCD tv's. If you want your blacks to be really blacks and not blues/greys , you have to go for a Plasma or a Full matrix LED backlit TV with local dimming, which would be 2x the price of the 650

Hi Its nice to finally have a owners thread for Lg LD650.I got my LG 47LD650 delievered on 26th oct. I got it for 79k with airtel HD connection and LG blueray player with 50 DVD movies pack. Connected my HDD with USB port and Airtel HD with HDMI port. My viewing distance is 8 to 10 ft. Picture quality is good but there is slight bluring present. I have adjusted the truemotion to 10. Is this bluring due to viewing distance or it is with every lcd tv.

I had bleeding on mine initially but after a week it went away. It's good now.

The Trumotion is horrible, movies look like TV serials. I would disable it at the drop of a hat.

Guys just a Quick tip. I had few M2ts movies on my portable hard drive but TV USB was not identifying them. I renamed them to .mkv and it worked I can see them and its playing them without any issue:yahoo:
It's still not able to play any movie with DTS sound. Let see if we can find any solution for them.

I've not got the bluray player yet dealer said I'll get this weekend some time. I dont know if he will give me the dvd pack or not as I was not aware of this so I've not asked this. Hey did you get HDMI cable with the bluray player?

I can also see some odd backlight and it's not uniform on whole screen. few spots are mote lit and some are less. I can notice when I got 2-3ft close to screen and If the screen has got whole black picture in full screen. I dont see any isse when I'm watching any movie or TV program. not even in case of letterbox movie. Let see hot it goes in next few days

Did you guys have an issue with the panel being slightly loose on the sides in its bezel? Because the engineer said this is true with all pieces, and all TVs, not just LG. It's not much play, but is there.

Also scary. but when one picks up the panel, if u slightly twist it hold it from each corner, there's a bit of flex in the plastic body, but I think this is normal, since the panel inside is encased with a aluminium hard back.

Happily, no backlight bleed with my TV, spot on and black levels are pretty good. Brightness and contrast is even too.

^Ajay, I turned true motion off. Avatar 1080p looks awesome. 15% more blackness level, and I would be perfectly satisfied and never look at a plasma. But it's not very noticeable, and can be largely mitigated by proper calibration.
