Line Magnetic set up........... Lured me!

WOW, "Shindo of China"

Never expected it to be a Chinese brand.

So that proves that not all Chinese brands are into cheap stuff. Some do make quality stuff and they become truly "best kept secrets in audio world"

I am sure as and when people come to know of the brand the prices will also go upwards

PS - Sameer, please don't take me otherwise. I know somewhat what all you have owned earlier so it would not have been that easy to please your ears.
Just that it took me by surprise that its a proper Chinese brand. Will read all the links in detail tomorrow

No offenses meant but it seems you have not grasped the Chinese business model in toto. Neither I can claim as I do but AFAIK they make a product for any given price point and quite often, in the same factory. So not everything that is 'Made in China' is cheap and lacking in quality.

Line Magnetic has been around for some time. They are not a new company.

I understand that they used to/still make make replacement parts/copies of Western Electric products for some Japanese companies that specialise in selling vintage equipment. The Japanese are fanatical about quality more so in the rarefied market dealing in Western Electric stuff.

Line Magnetic has used that experience/knowledge from the Japanese to start marketing the products under their own name, at prices that are less than the Japanese Western Electric reproductions. Chinese business model?

I am not sure about the amps though.

They make some Western Electric amp copies too.

Hi,

Its interesting to note that the first Acoustic Research speaker the AR1 used the Altec/WE 755A as a tweeter.

But it wasn't long until the industry turned in a direction that would make the 755-A and its descendents nearly obsolete. In 1955, Edgar Villchur and Henry Kloss introduced the first AR-1 loudspeakera low-efficiency, multiway design in which the woofer cone's restorative force was supplied by the volume of air inside the sealed enclosure. The tightly suspended 755-A looked quaint alongside that first air-spring wooferitself nothing more than a crudely modified WE driverand the comparison was made all the more glaring by the fact that Villchur and Kloss chose the full-range 755-A as the tweeter for the AR-1!

Hi Captain
Even I meant to convey the same thing that "not everything chinese is cheap"
But sadly most of the people feel everything made in china is crap

As you said they make products to a price and they (CHINESE BRANDS) generally don't make anything to cater to extreme hi-end of the market

Now Sameer has a SL amp which truly belongs to HI END AUDIO. So he choosing LM products after having EP speakers and SL amp truly speaks highly about them

So for a moment I was surprised that LM is a chinese brand because I did not expect it to be :)

I hope all got my point

you are right. It is interesting for us too to see the response as there is this "china maal" tag associated in India. The truth is plenty of stuff is made in china nowadays, in fact LM audio is reputed to be an OEM for a few very reputed "non-chinese" brands (enough info on web if you google). Even apple products are made in China - so what?
The products from what little experience i have with them are solidly made, all point to point wiring, the speakers are extraordinary when it comes to conveying music. There are strengths of this speaker (tone & timbre) just like the EPs that Sameer had (live and no boxiness). Once you hear these you will wonder how wrong some other speakers get it in these areas:-)

cheers

In case of Apple, its the APPLE brand what people see not the Chinese manufacturer which is contracted by Apple to assemble Iphone, Ipad. etc

In case of LM it will be seen as a "CHINESE COMPANY/BRAND" and no one sees for whom it is OEM for

This is a general example I am giving

But whats good with us audiophiles that we thoroughly research on internet and then select what we want :) So i feel the merits of LM will not be hidden and many would consider LM here in India now since there is someone representing them
BEST OF LUCK and THANK YOU for bringing many world class and VFM brands to India

"Extreme hi-end" may be not, but hi-end, they are quite a few examples. What immediately comes to my mind are Jolida, Dussun, Cayin, Shanling, Jungson, Aurum Cantus, Fountek and of course Line Magnetic. They have all started out as OEM suppliers and have later launched their own brands selling clones of their US/European counter parts at a fraction of the cost.

Of course, I got your point though. :)

From what I have read online, Line Magnetic enjoys a serious reputation among the audiophile community. Many are very complementary on the efforts made by LM to revive some of the old Western Electric work and indeed the high quality of their products. The ownership is said to be passionate about their work at LM and I think it shows in the products they've brought out.

To me LM is a great opportunity for many to experience very high quality sound at a very fair price. They should be commended for bringing out a top notch selection of products that are a worthy nod to the heydays of audio.

Re: Simple Awesome

Simple and exquisite....back to the basics

Hi Sridhar,

It will be nice if you can share some ballpark price for these speakers, so that some of us have an idea of what it would cost to own these exceptional speakers.

Best Regards,
APK

To be fair to SL, I would say this is more of a listening preference than anything to do with quality. Listening on a 300B based amp on an appropriate loudspeaker is an acquired taste and a very listener specific endeavor. Folks who love that sound will not prefer anything else.

An SL amp with an appropriate multi driver speaker is a different trip altogether.

There are no shoes that fit all in audio.

Hi
Western pricing is a good indication of where they will be, some a bit lower, some a bit higher. The final prices are still being worked out.

My new HiFi journey.....300B SET amp & Single Driver speaker.

So far I have listened for 40 hrs and I am happy....
I request all the FMs who are already on the path of Tubes and Single drivers to suggest appropriate ICs & Speaker cables.
