Looking to buy my first Plasma TV: 42UT30/u30/xt30/LG PW450/PT350/PA 4500

just4kix, just said that in jest, because of all the LCD/LED vs Plasma discussions which keep happening. I personally prefer plasmas when conditions permit even a little bit. But availability is the problem. I will check out Sony 40 ex650. Thank you! I am also looking at 40d5000 from samsung.

Stay away from the Panasonic ??30 models. Look at ??50 models only.

When I did my own shopping, I looked at LEDs and Plasma alike. I thought that LG Cinema 3D models were best looking but very overpriced. But since you are considering plasma only, I will say as follows:

Pana VT50: Not available. 65" only. 3.5 lakhs!! Out of contention.
Pana GT50: Extremely good but slightly overpriced. This was my first choice but for price. No other plasma save ST50 came close. Rival: Sammy 8 Series plasma (on specs) and included 4 glasses. But was not available and hence did not look.
Pana ST50: Near as good as GT50. Selected. Rival: Sammy 8 Series plasma (on specs) and included 4 glasses. But was not available and hence did not look.
Pana UT50 and Sammy E550: Almost same. I felt the Sammy was slightly better.
Pana XT50 and Sammy E490: Almost same.
Pana X50 and Sammy E470: Almost same.

Samsung entry level plasma's might actually be better than Panasonic X50/XT50 series.

aakashr, i felt the same way about the Sammy plasma too. I really liked it. But I was drawn by the prospect of getting a full hd 3d pana plasma for the same price.
Present situation is that most showrooms are out of stock on 42 inch plasmas. 50 inchers are available.
It also seems like they are stocking up more LEDs for the upcoming Id holidays!
I am going to wait and see if they bring in new stock of the 42UT50 and that too for an affordable price. If not, my fall back option is the 43e450 from Samsung. The e550 does not seem to be available here.
And if all that fails, I am thinking of getting a 40 inch led like the 40ex650 from Sony( doesnt seem to be in stock, but I have to check with more shops) or the 40d5000 from Samsung.

Any thoughts on Samsung 40D5000 LEd?

Aakashr, Thank you!

I thank all you guys for helping me out with buying the TV. :)

inna sastaa!? ......
:) ... you enjoy ...congrats. I too got one 40" LED recently ... you may have seen here. Wanted the Pana initially, but somehow this 'out-of-stock' thing got on my nerves ... and maybe the IR scare got the better of my common sense.

avid, Thank you!
The whole out of stock ( only 50 inchers or X/XT series is in stock always) thing was bugging me too and I had/have my apprehensions about IR. But I thought I would wait for a bit and if I dont get it, I would go for a 40/32 inch LED.
As it happened, one store here got new stock and I grabbed it!
No one at home is into watching cable etc. It will be mostly used for movies and I have warned my parents too to be careful about logos, IR etc. :)

Prosenjit, Thank you!
Got a lot to learn about this! Need your help guys!
For starters, the UT30 doesnt have wifi built in, so I need to use a wifi adapter/dongle for connecting over wifi. Any suggestions? Do I need a Panasonic one tailor made for this TV?

Any wifi adapter should work..........the one recommended by Panasonic is priced quite high.
