Making baby steps into Hi-fi

Thank you. Nikhil! :) And thanks for the tips, folks!

I might be able to get a loaner SET amp from a friend here for a bit, once the speakers arrive. If that works out, I'll be set (pun not intended, heh heh) for a few months, by which time I will be able to arrange for my SET amp purchase. I really don't want to spend any money on an in-between solution: I'm really strapped for cash right now :(

I'd visited Rethm and picked out the finish I wanted for the speakers today afternoon. I picked out a Southern Oak + Silver combination.
Anup, I am inviting myself for a listening session at your place soon!

Thank you, theironhorse, Titus and Venu! :)

Titus, you're always welcome! Are you coming back to India soon?

Lyrita does not make the 6C33C any more. My high powered Lyrita SET power amp option would be the GM70 SET. I have quite a bit of time to decide on the amp options while I save up. I now have most of what I'll need to know to decide, thanks to all of you folks! :)

Yes, indeed!

Hello Hydra,
On a similar path. the amp seems to be the trickiest part.
I did demo the Lyrita GM70 stereo power amp with DHT pre rated at about 20W/ch. Apparently Virenji also makes GM70 monos (at about 30W/Ch) which are supposedly more dynamic.
Regards

Trishnas in the house! :yahoo:

I got delivery today afternoon. I had to go back to the office right after, and I couldn't start listening to them till now, though. I've set them up in what seems to sound good for now. A lot of moving about is to follow in the next few days for sure.

Right away:
1) I just NEED a way better amp.
2) Stadium-size staging! :)
3) When they start playing, there are no speakers. Just the music. It's almost like the zen-kid telling Neo in The Matrix: "There is no spoon".
4) I needn't have worried too much about the room-speaker fit. These speakers don't seem to be too fussy about room size. This is the smallest room I've listened to these in. I think I might have been able to manage the Maargas in this room.

Back to music!

Congrats..?:)
I know how painful the wait would have been, how restless you were in the office today and how exciting it would be to listen to these beauties now...

well this is by far the best pic you have posted
got out your dslr ?

Hahahaha, yes, I usually post pics from my mobile phone. I used my P&S Canon this time, heh heh. I don't own a DSLR. That would be another bottomless pit! :p

Congrats..?:)

Thanks, Santy! Oh yes, it was indeed a really tough few hours. The wait was well worth it, though! :)

Hi anup
Congrats, finally they are there with you

The huge sound stage was first thing that hit me when I heard prems setup. So I guess it's a trait of rethm speakers which should improve and in other departments as well with right amp and cabling

Congratulations. It looks Beautiful !
All the best in your amp search, hope you dont compromise on it just to get it faster ;) been there, done it and regretted it !!

have heard the rethm saadhanas twince in Mumbai. Once at Prem's and the other at jaibirs place.

They do throw a large soundstage but make sure you experiment with the positioning to enjoy it best.

Being a floorstander it will mean that it will continue to have a fixed position in your room and thats a good thing sound wise.

njoi !!

Congrats Anup :)
Another Rethm in our extended family :D
Pls do the due diligence on the right amp to make them shine even more & as advised by other FM, pls do not hurry, otherwise :(

You have some interesting options though ;)

Congratulations Hydra! Looks great...

Just to get a perspective, how big is your room? You have managed to place the speakers quite a few feet from the back wall - so it's can't be a very small room! Can you share details of the speaker spacing (distance from back wall, side walls, distance between speakers & distance from listening position)

Best,
APK
