Movies Discount and Offer threads :D

I just got the first disc from the order I made with snapdeal: "An Education " (from SONY),packaging was neat but certainly not safe i.e. no bubble wrap/ cardboard etc- disc arrived absolutely safe though- but I guess that was because the courier chap did not have much heavy items in the HUGE bag he brought along!

Once again, this being an made in India pressing,I opened it immediately to check, and was a bit apprehensive to see that the disc was so thin, that the printing could be seen on the reverse side -fortunately, the disc played without a hitch.

I wonder if ALL Indian disc manufacturers have adopted this ultra-thin disc standard: some other discs I got from EU are definately not translucent/ able to see the label printing from the reverse side.

Absolutely not. Don't speculate and rubbish Indian discs. All BDs are thin and if you hold it against the light with data side facing you, you can (slightly) see thru the discs, the cover image at the back, etc. I have lot of US and UK discs.

I too got discs from US, there is some cost cut on Indian ones. I just returned my Top Gun 3d disc back to Reliance as its video quality was worse than a VCD( super grainy) they are yet to get back to me on that with an explanation.

Do check on the prices of the same movies on both the portals before placing the orders. The prices vary ...

Commercial discs are pressed and the cost of DVD/BD is not even Rs. 100 inclusive of package, slip cover, outer jacket, etc. Of course, I can't appraise a BD that I have not seen but I have some Indian manufactured BDs such as Inception, The Hobbit 3D, DDLJ, The Avengers 3D, Jodha Akbar, etc. I haven't found them of inferior quality, either viewing them on projector or ST50. PQ was at par and sound was true HD sound - the blue HD indicator on AVR lights up. The only complaint that I have is the lack of extra content on quite a few of them.

What's this Blue HD indicator light all about ? Is it Denon Specific or is IT there with all AVR ?

This is usually present in all AVRs in some way or another. Whenever the AVR detects HD sound, an indicator displays the fact.

I agree with you. All my Indian BD discs are as good as international ones from US or UK. Only issue with Indian BDs are that the packaging may not be as good. So far the UK versions has the best packaging. Regarding the see through, it depends on what kind of lamination is done on top for labeling the BD. If it is a thick colour then you may not see through easily. I saw few imported ones also allows you to see through the disc.

I noticed the "see-thru" effect quite accidently. The BD cover is imprinted on the disc just like the data layers, i.e., it is not a sticker. The aluminium layers of BD require to be extra thin so that the very short waverlength blue laser can read thru the layers. Hence the blu-ray discs are semi transparent.

My India purchased discs:

Alice in Wonderland
The Amazing Spider Man
The Avengers (3D)
The Dark Knight Rises
Skyfall
The Hobbit (3D)
Inception
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
The Sound of Music
Tron: Legacy

Dear just4kix

i recall u have ordered Life of Pi from amazon.in

Actually it is now @ 500/- at amazon. I want to know whether it includes any extra content like making etc??

Just ordered the Disney-Pixar ultimate collection of 12movies in DVD costing 1500/-, CoD.

Am looking for Life of Pi, but that is yet to be offered in the current sale of 50%, neither in Amz-In or Snapdeal. Amz-In has only the DVD at 50% discount not the 3D BD.

Checking now, they have updated the prices and now it is showing 999/- and 799/- for Blu-Ray and 499/- for DVD

99% of Indian discs are region free. 99% of Warner movies are region free. Hence this one (The Dark Knight Rises) is also region free. I will have to check the audio tracks.

got some of BD from Snapdeal and Amazon.in.

Snapdeal packing is worst. No bubble-wrap. The case may be broken during transit.

AMAZON. IN is good, packing good, fast and best customer service.
