One quick question, if ordering from Amazon how is the shipping and taxes calculated? and can you share the link plz?
If you mean Amazon.com, then it is as follows:
a) Shipping
Per BD/DVD item: $3.99
Per Package: $4.99
So if you order, 5 BDs and they are delivered in single package, the total shipping is $24.94. However, if your total BD price is above $125, the shipping is free.
b) Customs Duty:
Amazon.com will charge 26.5% as the "Import Duty Deposit" on the total CIF value (base cost + shipping).
Please note that even with the free shipping offer (on value $125 or more), shipping cost is added to arrive at the CIF value. From the total value, the shipping amount is then given as a discount. So assume a 12 BDs order of $130, then your calculation works out as:
- Base cost: $130
- Shipping: $52.87
- Customs duty deposit (26.5%): $48.46
- Less shipping discount: -$52.87
---------
Total amount: $178.46
(The actual customs duty is much less and most of the times I have got a full or partial refund).
===========================================
If you mean Amazon.co.uk, then it is as follows:
You get a 20% off on the list price in lieu of VAT refund.
a) Shipping
Per BD/DVD item: 1.49
Per Package: 2.09
So if you order, 5 BDs and they are delivered in single package, the total shipping is 9.54.
b) Customs Duty:
The parcel is shipped by Royal Mail and then arrives at the Foreign Post Office (in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, depending upon the region). FPO charges arbitrary duty on the package. Sometimes it is let free. Sometines it is 25% and at other times as high as 40-44% duty. Duty is charged in Indian Rupees. Package is delivered by the post office. Duty, if any, must be paid to the postman when the parcel is presented.
