Movies Discount and Offer threads :D

I am not an audiophile, so for me it hardly matters, the mini component Sony system I had was hardly ever used and it is lying unused for months/ years together. In fact most of the times, I watched the movies when all are sleeping, i.e. late evening post 10:30-11 pm. And as you know, like most of Mumbaiya homes, my home is small enough to disturb the entire home (and maybe neighbours as well) with even mildly louder volume. At that time, I am not even allowed to enjoy even regular volume. Most of the time, the subtitle only helps me actually the understanding the movie dialogues, as many are inaudible at such low volume.

For me the movie is chosen on the basis of story, cast, and the visuals. I think I like action, thriller, comedy, romance in that order.

i want to order some BD(region free) for the first time from amazon.

some region free titles are available at amazon.caNADA @ around 10$. My cousin is @ Canada and will come to India next month. i will ship the BDs to his apartment. I wonder if i have to pay any shipping charges- per order/per item to ship from amazon to their own country.

Another query is- if i order from Amazon.UK (say 5-10 BDs including box packs of HP or POC) how much custom duty I may have to pay.. Thanks All..

Amazon Canada shall ship free to Canada address. Please refer to the shipping details of the product.

Regarding the AMZ-UK, I think you may not have to pay anything as customs, as I think forum members from Orissa have ordered for products from there and have been able to escape duty. But you may never know. So better be on the safer side and order for less than GBP50 per order and you may also mark the same as gift. That way, your chances of getting charged for customs is a bit lesser. Except for Mumbai P.O. who are charging customs for almost all shipments, there are very few who actually charges for such imports elsewhere. Anyway wish you all the luck.

It varies. The max, Mumbai GPO charges in the range of 45%. But officially they shall not charge anything beyond 28-30%. Please refer another thread in Movies section where the customs duty is explained in Detail, most probably by Kix.

You may have to juggle around. Rhythmhouse, Snapdeal, Indiatimes, Flipkart, moviemart etc for the DVDs. Most of the DVDs (old titles) are now being re-released between 99 & 199 by excel, Reliance, Shemaroo, Eagle etc. You may have to browse through almost all of them. The balanced ones are expected to be re-released at this price soon.

Regarding BDs there are offers, when you should pick them, mostly, Buy one get one from Landmark, 30-50% off with snapdeal, 50% bargain offer with Rhythmhouse, 10-20% off with infibeam. For most of these sites, there are discount coupons (available on net) or special offer from the Credit card/ debit card issuing banks.

Yes please note that the new titles are very rarely on offer (except for marginal 10-15% discount) across various sites and you may get another 10% or so from coupons, or credit card/ debit card discount.

For example, currently Amzing Spiderman, is available at 699/- with flipkart.
I got Super8 DVD- at 108/- (Snapdeal)
HOP at 102/- (Snapdeal)
Adjustment Bureau 102/- (Snapdeal)
Terminator-2 150/- (Flipkart)
Bridget Jones Diary 99/- (Flipkart)

I got the Pirates of the Caribbean series in Blu ray (B1G1) at 799/- at landmark. So effective price Rs 400/-.

Please browse the following the quite a number of Hollywood BDs starting at 524/-

Not all has the watermark. Specially the english movies released by excel, eagle & Reliance etc don't have any, as far as my experience so far.

May be the Shemaroo, Ultra ones have them (not sure). I think it is generally present in the Indian language movies including Hindi (I don't have any, as I normally download if I wish to see and delete the same after viewing once or so).

Thanks Manzb, I have got a few of the Indian releases, and have yet to watch many of them! I too did find a couple with the watermarks and / or having scenes censored- so unless it a " G" or " U" classification movie I avoid the Indian releases.

I have also had quality issues with a few - like the Blues Brothers / 2000 - which just refused to load, as the discs were so thin, you could literrally read the title from the reverse, I finally got them via Amazon etc.

Bluray discs are also very thin. You can see the whole top side labels when looking at the data side.

It went down to 12 few days back. I think even at 15 this is a good buy. The dampener is that exchange rate skyrocketed in last few weeks or so. Currently GBP is quoting around 91 bucks. In May beginning it was around 81/82 :(
