Musical Fidelity M1 DAC-A - HotDeal.

Just opened mine and it is Nov 2010 model and not new one. Packed again for return.
So they seem to have a mix of DACs.
Outstation guys hold for some time till I sort it out with AP.
Others check before buying.

@Soulofmusic, what version you got??

I went to showroom and it is replaced switfly.
Thw problem is, they can't see the manufactured date before removing the seal.

If you are ordering, please ask them to check and send post Jul 2011 model.

I checked the other 3 pieces in hyd and they are new. Only 1 (which I got) was old.

I have also been sent the old model. They have agreed to replace it, but the whole experience has not been good at all.

I received M1DAC without Async USB (that too looks to be demo piece) and they were trying to convince me that this is the only model.

I know it CANNOT be a mistake because its clearly written on the box of new model that it is the one with Async USB (check the video -> Musical Fidelity M1 DAC-A, Asynchronous USB Input Unboxing - YouTube). And come-on, how can they not know which is the old or the new model - they sell it to whole of India, including other dealers!! Will they ever make a mistake of selling a new model at old model price????

Also, when I called back and asked them to replace it, Mr. Jalal told they dont have stock and it will arrive only by 3rd week of May. Once BLASTO exchanged his version and he confirmed there are 3 new pieces in Hyderabad, I was confirmed they have one in Hyderabad and it can be 'picked up' by me. I have insisted on them delivering it and have got a mail confirmation on the same after multiple follow-ups.

I was also charged shipping - which they have agreed to refund!

Overall not a good experience.

Others HFVs: Be careful. I would suggest get a mail from their official id before transferring funds. Ask them to confirm in the mail that the model that will be shipped will have 172kHz LED.

Hey soul, the ones in India does NOT have async USB written on box. This gives all the problems.

I'll post pics of my DAC sometime..

When I asked Jalal, he said that he did not know that there is stock available in hyd. He assumed that all pieces in hyd are picked up by me for group buy.

I can help with anyone needing a DAC. You can PM me directly.

Blasto can u please post the picuture of your new dac? To make sure that I got the latest version.

I will post in the evening.
Jul2011 with 176 hz led is enough check.

Box do not have async USB written in Indian/UK models.

Try a 24/96 song. That's the conclusive test and it will pass.

Hey all,
I received mine yesterday and yes, it is the new model.

Interestingly, the box of this new model is much smaller than the box of older version and this new model also came from chennai. Also, looking at the manual itself you can make out, it is a new unit. MF DAC being black hardly give away the age with the look ;)

Anyways, I have got the new model now, so let me bury the hatchet.

Initial feel from M1DAC - Bass is not so tight and highs are not so smooth... but i can remember it was the same with my new amp + speaker setup, so hoping this would settle down...

BTW, I also got the shipping charges refund for the DAC.

Bass is not so tight and highs are not so smooth...

Hey soul, That is exactly what M3i does. I demoed it side by side with A5.5, M6i and A1008 to come to the conclusion.

Divakar can add. He had to replace the M3i for A1008 because of this. :)

Ofcourse all the above are 'comparatively'.

I would wait for few days b4 pointing a finger at M3i, because it didnt sound this off before plugging in the DAC.

Highs were smoother, but there was not much bass (which was ok with me because I am more of a classical guy and Rock is only for once-in-a-while-party-nite for me).

With M1, soundstage has definitely improved, you can feel some doom created between speaker and amp, but at the same time, bass lingers for longer than you would want, intruding with music piece after it.. Also highs are not as smooth....

Still, I hope this is the newness effect and would settle down...

Finger crossed as Pockets are empty!!

This saturday is going to be a dissection day... going to use DAC through USB and compare it with current WDTV> Optical > DAC connection....
