Sachu,
Thats the right word, Still people ready to pay whatever for the Vintage stuffs, because they believe the Build quality during the 70's and 80's was outstanding compared to today's market.

For example the an Old PHILIPS value radio of my granpa was really sounding good and soothing than a 10k Apple :ohyeah: IPOD.

Recently there was a Sansui AU517 was for sales in a portal and the guy is looking for 45k For that Vintage stuff manufactured in late 70's.

But your advice is perfect..

You hit the nail right on its head!
The audio gear manufactured in 1970s were probably by far the best gear produced, esp. for mass market.
The 70s were the time when most of the consumer electronics companies were flourishing and in the crusade to mark their guards & establish themselves in the market, to show, they produced what they were capable of.
This continued until the 80s when cost cutting was the norm of the day and this is the time when the general quality declined southwards. The metal knobs, wooden panels and silver metal plates were all replaced by mostly fibres & plastics. (This is just a generalization of thoughts & not to be construed to niche products.)

I started on my own with a humble Teac P988 fully automatic TT, it served we well but i grew out of it in a year's time, then moved to a Technics SLBD20B after which my lovely Technics SL3200 landed at home. Honestly, the P988 was a faithful TT and played its music sincerely. Personallly I thought it was better than the SLBD20B. But both these plastic belt drive turntables are were no match for the SL3200. The tonearms on the plastic turntables were very basic, even though the SLBD20B had a changeable p-mount. At the end of the day, I never regret having used these TTs. I enjoyed music on them too :)

I have a brand new 110V Technics SLBD20D, it's arm is quite stiff and too light to track, just no match for my 30 yrs old JVC player

One piece of Technics TT (belt drive) is available in Chennai...

Hello Vino, I am really interested in buying that Technics TT piece. could you please let me know where is it available and how much is it available for ? Can we connect sometime and i can use your experience in purchasing it please ?

Thx
Soumya
