I am looking for bookshelf speaker for NAD D3020.

Purpose is 90% music and 10% movies/youtube videos.

Following I have it in mind.
1. Dali Zensor 1
2. Dali Zensor 3
3. Wharfedale Diamond 220
4. Wharfedale Diamond 225

System is for bed room of size 12' x 16'

Because of room size, I will decide on size of speaker based on demo, I will be taking demo of Dali's z1 and z3.

I am not able to find dealer in pune, who is willing to provide demo for wharfedale.

Budget : MAX 30k.

Please suggest me which speakers to go for, I am open to suggestion

Any one has done demo the of both Wharfedale Diamond and Dali Zensor.

Please post your experience of both.

According to me ,wharfedale are warm and laid back sound .. dali zensor will be little bit brighter ,forward sound with good soundstage. Choice depends upon your taste .Possible do an audition and decide to match your taste.

Wharfedale diamond 220 v/s Zensor 1

Heard these paired with AVR only. Not with the NAD stereo amp.
Wharfedale will be on warmer side or high frequency kind of rolled off, better bass . Zensor1 will have more sparkle/pronounced higher frequency. Both of these are good speakers and many users here in the forum.

Wharfedale 225/ Zensor 3 : These are bigger BS with 6.5inch and 7inch drivers.
Will go much lower freq and better bass performance.

I do see PSB is also paired generally with NAD. Please demo

Hello,

If you are ok with considering other options then do look at the Elac B6. One of our FM who also happens to be my friend has them. He has paired them with a vintage Luxman amp. Believe me, they rock right out of the box. He also has Dynaudio Emit M10 which costs almost double but still the Elacs sound equally competent.

The amount of bass they can create is incredible for bookshelf speakers. You definitely would not need a sub for listening to music.

You can get them for under 25k and at that price they are very hard to beat. Do give them a try.

Cheers

However I doubt about price of 25k, below online shop listed it at 32.5k.
Elac - Debut B6 - Bookshelf Speaker (Pair)

Where can I get demo of following in Pune City.
1. Wharfedale Diamond
2. PSB
3. Elec

The FM friend i was referring to bought the Elacs for 24.5k a month ago without any negotiation (Demonetization effect maybe). I'm sure you should be able to get it for atleast 25k. Getting an audition could be difficult though.
FMs from Pune can help you with the dealers there.

Cheers

I agree, I have read very highly positive reviews for ELAC B6 online! If not Wharfedale Diamond 220/225 series, I would go for ELAC B6 Bookshelves.

Thanks, will check if I get demo of elec.

However I will only be purchasing speakers for which I am able to take demo.

I have gone through review of elec on stereophile and following conclusion makes me worry.
The B6's sound was noticeably colored, but when powered by an excellent amplifier (it seems to like tubes)
Read more at Elac Debut B6 loudspeaker Page 2 | Stereophile.com

I think NAD D3020 does not come under excellent amplifier category.

JBL Studio 230 Bookshelves are better than low budget ELAC Bookshelf speakers.

You can see the review in this YouTube video description. Here is the link,

Hi,
Got the same amp and going through the same dilemma. I'm looking at the following speakers (in order of preference) :
1. Wharfedale 220 (primarily because of the Stereophile and DAR reviews ; also since its a very commonly recommended beginner setup)
2. KEF Q100
3. Elac B6 (rear ported)
4. Monitor Audio Bronze 2 (benefit is higher sensitivity 90 dB compared to the above which are at about 86dB).
5. Boston Acoustics A26 (89 bB but is rear ported)

Would ideally like a front ported pair because of placement issues. So I'll probably be going for the Wharfs or the KEF. Would be interested to hear ur impressions esp. with the Zensors.

Btw the JBL 230s are in an entirely different price category.

Sure will post dali zensor impressions, will be taking demo on coming saturday.

Did you able to take demo of any of your listed speakers ?

I am specifically interested in Wharfedale .

Nope, not taken any demos. Don't know where to get A-B comparison demo here. Also might get someone to buy them abroad for me, so I'm going in blind.

I might get to try the wharfes soon and will update if I do. But I don't think I will have anything to add since there are a lot of good reviews online for this combo. My only concern is how loud they actually drive the wharfes.

I would have also gone blind, however my confusion is
NAD D3020 ( warm Amp ) + Wharfedale ( warm Speaker )

NAD D3020 ( warm Amp ) + Dali ( Bright Speaker )

I read somewhere warm + bright is good combination compare to warm + warm.

Any FM can comment on above point.

Also where wharfedale is made ( china or somewhere else ) ?

Dali is made in china, however I read quality is good.

I own both Dali and Wharfs both made in china.
I liked the Wharfs more than Dalis in terms of build quality. Pretty solid and heavy too for its size.
Just a note, Dali Z3 is rear ported and WD 220 is down firing speakers.

Do you have any amp and speakers with you currently? How do they sound ; Warm, cold, hot? Or dull, bright, harsh? Or precise, colored, musical, or laid back? And how do you like them?

Don't dwell too much into the internet reviews; take them with a pinch (ideally a bucket) of salt ; they're subjective to the core. The same amp and speaker pair impressions will differ between person and his listening experience , music they're playing, positioning of the speakers (relative to each other, listener, side walls, furniture etc), etc. Try to listen and decide than read and decide (at home audition with your gear is better, with the music of your choice which you've heard 100s of times before).

Thanks,

Please share your experience of dali and wharfedale long hours listening at low volume ?

I don't care about how loud they play, since it is for bed room.

I am more interested in long hours of listening and should not be tiring to ears.

Which Amp you paired with both ?

Which you recommend ?

About rear ported bass port, I would be placing speaker on desktop table, I can place speaker 1' feet from wall behind, also distance between two speaker would be 6' feet or more, Any concern in this area ?

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
