New house construction - dedicated home theater room - initial questions

Pretty awesome personal theater that's turned out to be! Yes, you'll need to do something about that ceiling if you keep noticing the reflection on it. I guess there is some reflection on the AC on the left side as well

Good to see you got the recliners. How is their quality?

Thanks bud. I have got the ceiling painted black now. The reflection from the AC on the left is not much of a hindrance.

I am looking for an AVR upgrade now. Any suggestions?

Recliners are pretty comfortable. Value for money.

Good to know you've taken care of the ceiling.

Not into AVRs as of now... will leave suggestions to others.

Thanks for the review on those recliners.

Are you thinking about upgrading to 7.1 or 5.1.

Denon AVR-X2000 is a great receiver in this range.

Thanks Rupam. I might go for 7.1 now and put two small side surround speakers. There seems to be a little space for that now. Which is a good pair of small side-surround speakers?

Now what is the Marantz/Pioneer equivalent of the X2000? Thanks in advance.

If you really like musical AVR then go for Marantz NR1604 . NR 1604 has also video upconversion which can be very useful.

It will surely go well with your PolK.

Thanks Rupam, how do the Denon X2000, Marantz SR5007, and Pioneer VSX 1122 match up?

Sorry John in my last post i have confused to answer to sash and samrat rather then reading your hard work which has been put into your HT build for a long time which has been ended up in flying colors with great look and also i confused your thread with John k antony.
It was really a amazing HT, congrats enjoy your Private entertainment.

Sorry once again....

Murali.

Hi bud,

No issues at all. Glad you dropped in. Your HT is impressive to say the least.

Cheers!

Edit: Actually yesterday I did hook up everything, setup the AVR, and watched Dark Knight. Enjoyed every bit of it. And it looked fresh.

Big question on my mind. The ceiling is white, so I noticed it reflects a lot of light off of the projector beam. Should I get the boards painted black?

Recliners, etc., still not lined up, so it is still WIP, though I did arrange everything last evening; will update pictures later.

Cheers!!

John can you tell me where did you manage to get those posters, the framing and the size ??

Sam, you can pick up posters of your choice from ebay. I recently did up my ht room .. picked up laminate matte finish posters (24x36) on ebay from a seller called davinciposters .. it also helped that he was from my city .. I contacted him and asked him if he could source particular prints i wanted and he did ..

I now have posters of my 3 favorite badasses - Ayrton Senna, Kratos and Magneto !! :)

btw, poster costed Rs.700/- and framing it Rs.750/- each !!

Thanks yesh, how is the paper, print, color quality for these posters. Also from where did you get the framing done ..???

quality of the posters is nothing short of excellent .. they were high quality matte finish laminates(i spoke to the guy over the phone and he said he could do matte finish) .. which were delivered rolled up inside a pvc pipe!!

framing was done at a small hole in the wall shop a street away from my house ..

maybe my fone camera didnt do justice to the posters .. will upload photos/video once the room is complete and the posters are up on the wall !! :)

Bud, for the room I got 12" x 18" posters from Flipkart. Framing was perhaps in the 300 range and for the posters outside the room, I got 2' x 3' posters, where the framing charges was like 780 or whereabouts. Hope it helps.

Thanks John, ..... for the inputs, BTW your Home theatre is one of the best (if not the best) HT I have seen on HIfi vision,.. :) (atleast from the images you have posted ... :) ) and believe me I have gone through almost every HT thread that exists on this forums ... :D

I am also under process of constructing my 15x12x8 HT on my terrace. Its the equipment acquiring process going right now .. :D. (check my thread in my sig) Soon the construction will start, will create a new thread for the same. Thats when I will might be bothering you pretty much at every step, hope you dont mind (thats the price you pay when you construct a nice looking, home theatre, and post it on form .. :D :D).

Thanks a lot Sam :). And you are inspiration for NAS, media streaming and what not. Take care.

John,

I see your false ceiling is exactly like what I have done,

246saap.jpg

white gypsum boards grid ceiling, there however is a discussion going on about the the kind of reflection one gets off the white ceiling in complete darkness while watching the movie.

I need your sincere inputs here, as I see you have kept the same white ceiling about the reflections, how much there are and how distracting they become ......

My HT construction thread is in my sig ..

Regards
Sammy

Buddy,
I have not used the normal false ceiling as it is reflective . My one has tiny holes in it. Also, it was initially white. I have now painted it black. As it was too reflective , too much light mars the movie experience . Hope this helps.
