new to Home Theatre

Hi All,

I am new to home theatre system.according to my friend I went to sony show room there I saw one big Home theatre that is Sony HT-M5(HT-M5 : Home Theatre Component System : Home Theatre System : Sony India) modal.it is good according to me.so please explain me clearly what are all the things we need to consider for home theatre .and is there any good and best quality company than sony? and sony is giving amplifier and I dont know what is it.so pls help me out.

What is your budget? When it comes to home theaters, Sony is just an average option. You have better models from Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha etc.

My budget around 45k.If it is possible give me company name and modal of it.I will check those modal also.I think denon is not available in INDIA.

All of the above brands are available in India. I'm using Denon 1612 AVR. For 45K budget I suggest Denon 1612 or Yamaha 471 as the AVR. Price will be around 26-28K. Rest you can invest on 5.1 package though you will need to extend the budget for better speakers. Also consider Denon 1312 or Yamaha 371 for around 22K. If you want HTIB that comes in as a AVR+speaker package then look for Onkyo 3500 (28K), Denon 1312XP (32K) or Yamaha YHT296 (36K).

If you like Musics more and is your priority, why are you going after Home Theatre?

Buy a decent stereo setup for yourself at 45K. There will be lot of good options in that budget.

I will agree with that since even I have an Onkyo 3500 which is suited more for movies than music.

one doubt that is,I will prefer to connect my laptop to Home theatre.so when I play mp3 songs from my laptop it is in stereo type.can AV receiver decode to 5.1 system or not?if not which type of AVR can decode into 5.1 channel?please help.

Note: my English is not good.don't mind.

Don't worry about that, almost every AVR can decode an audio to play in virtual 5.1 mode but that is not a good practice to do. Stereo songs are intended to and best enjoyed when listened to in 2 channel mode .

We already gave you AVR company names - Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha, Marantz, Pioneer are the common ones. All latest avr models have most of the latest features like 4 HDMI 1.4a inputs, 3D and HD audio support etc. Entry level AVRs may lack auto setup features, overlay gui etc. I suggest Denon 1612 or Yamaha 471 for your use. Should cost around 28K. But then you are left with only 17K for speakers.

Also can try Denon 1312 or Yamaha V371. Will be around 21K.
I use V371 and it is quite good. Only lacks the iPod usb connector to connect iPod directly.

I am confusion with what is Dolby Digital true HD,Dolby Digital plus ,Dolby Digital logic II etc and like DTS also.what is the use of all the decoding technologies ?if it is possible can you tell me clearly?really I dont know what are all this?please give me help .

All these are surround sound formats. HD audio is the latest format with high bitrate than normal dts or dolby digital and supports 7.1 surround audio. The prologic modes like Dolby prologic, DTS Neo6 etc. are used to convert two channel sound to a virtual surround sound. You don't need to worry about these formats now. Just get the denon 1612. It has all the features you will ever need.

I saw Denon 1612 specification ,there is Dolby ProLogic II, IIz not supporting .so is it any problem with any audio.why I am asking again is all most I will connect to my laptop to AVR.laptop give only stereo sound right, but I would like 5.1 surround music . dont mind to ask again ,just clarification .

It will play stereo sound from your laptop in 5.1 surround sound. You can use dolby prologic II or DTS Neo6 or virtual surround for this.
