Hi,
I have got a tata sky HD connected to my 26 inch sony lcd via component and was getting HD (1080i).But yesterday evening after a software update my lcd is showing only 576i inspite of my setting the resolution on my STB to 1080i.My lcd does not have HDMI in as it is an older model. Have they diabled HD content via component ? please help out guys.
The tata sky engineers have no clue .

Same here, using 32inch Panasonic Viera LCD using Component connection and no HD. Res is 576i after their software update. And neither does my TV have HDMI. So we have to bear with 576i or wait for another software release which god knows wud be when.

how about hdmi? can anyone confirm. i am not sure if my s/w got updated. I have the TS HD+ on all the time as it is recording movies for me could it have happened all by itself?

What I feel is that there are DRM issues with component so they might have disabled Hd content via it. For HDMI , it is HDCP compliant. This is very unprofessional on tata sky for doing this without our knowledge or consent. Now what am i supposed to do ? Purchase new LCD ? Thats absurd. If this issue is a technical snag then only god can help us. The engineer who came or the cc people had no idea what was happening .
Now just waiting for some senior engineer from tata sky to shed some light.

It works with HDMI but not with component. Worst thing when I asked the executive via Live chat he said they have done due to TECHNOLOGY CHANGE, I just asked him to shut up and logged out

Actually, it's not that the executive was wrong. There is something called as the "Analog Sunset", which states that all new blu-ray players will output HD only through HDMI, and will stop supporting HD through component.

It does force people to buy a new TV with HDMI inputs, and I do agree, that many people will be frustrated by it.

I was wodering if i use HDMI to component cable will it work ?

Yes it will. Earlier due to short of HDMI cable connected with Component cable. After seeing this issue from software update, switched back to HDMI, now everything is normal.
Its quite a while since these standards was changed about component output in BD player and other related equipment. Our DTHs started implementing this now.

though I'd loved to be proved wrong, this "cable" if it even exists, is highly unlikely to work.

firstly, hdmi output is digital, component is analog. so there would be a video DAc involved at the very least. an HDMI to DVI cable would work, since the output remains in the digital domain and if your tv has a hdcp compliant dvi connector it should work.

secondly, the very reason that hdmi was propogated in the first place was for secure data transmission and content protection. if it only took a 400/- cable to change a secure digital transmission to an open analog one; then the entire process of analog sunset et al would be a bit moot, right?

- afaik (and I'm a bit rusty on this) analog susnet only applies to new models launched after a particular timeframe. it is almost definitely does not apply to firmware updates to older HD players.

it applies to content, ie - disc have an ict flag, which is read by the player, and according hi def analog is served (or not)

for your particular solution, save buying a new TV, you need a device and converts Hd -digital hdmi to HD analog - component. if you are in the market for an Ht system, then one such product is the emotiva UMC-1, which I believe is on sale on their website

May be little off topic... there was this long know bug of TS HD+ boxes not outputting DD 5.1 sound through HDMI. Was that fixed...?

according to members the audio issue has been fixed. NOW there is an audio option of dolby digital but unfortunately HD has been disabled via component by tata sky. People like me with older lcds with only component input are left high and dry. on top of it i have mega lite pack valid till april2012.

i dont think there is a fix, they just created an option in menu to select hdmi and dolby, it doesnot work.(well atleast for me it doesnot)

HDMI is working fine except for the Audio which remains PCM like before despite the MANUAL option.

If it was a DRM related issue, they might have just disabled Component output for DRM protected HDCP content instead of restricting resolution to 576i. So its most probably a bug and nothing else! You should write to their CEO and COO on why they INVENTING more issues with releases instead of fixing older ones and testing the software well before releasing it!

It WONT work, NOT POSSIBLE! Those cables might be for some custom Chinese products which can use HDMI connector for ANALOG component output as well or visa versa. Wont work in this case unless there is a DAC and component video output stage in between.

Instead if you have an HDMI capable AVR, you could try component output through the AVR!

Dude, please check his question before jumping in :) He is NOT talking of switching to HDMI connection as its a no brainer to do so if at all possible.

It seems to have fixed only for TS HD after TS messed it in Summer! Never worked in TS+HD and the CEO contact has assured that it will eventually work after another update in few days!

Can you please give the email address of the CEO/CTO. We could also write to them and put pressure on them to resolve the issue ASAP.
