Hi,

Subsequent to blasto's thread I decided to go for the monitor audio bronze BR2s..but not going ahead with the final order till I get a fix on the amplifier. My budget was 30k, and I was looking to split it 50-50 on the amp-speakers or simply buy the new audioengine a5+.

Given the bronze are at 17k, I ideally need an amplifier within 13-15k..and I don't think anything but a norge will qualify within that budget.

Any idea how well the BR2s will be matched with the norge 2060 or maybe any of their other amplifiers? Norge amps have an impedance of 4 ohms and the BR2 is at 8 ohms so that's not gonna be a problem, but I am wondering how they will actually sound with each other..

I don't think I will find the time to actually try it out before buying so that option is out of the window and I wanna order quickly before this deal passes me by...

Koushik,

Go for the mewly launched pre-power combo, should be for 13k without phono/
IMHO, the best from Norge to date.

:)

:) and i take it that it should go well with the br2? In general are the Norge Amps neutral? cause I think the BR2 are warm, so should not be probably paired with another warm amp..a sound too warm is not up to my taste, i find it unexciting...

Except for the Ref2000 all the other Norge amps are not warm.
Your BR2 will pair well with the pre-power. Give it a shot. You may also speak to Mr. Shyam Bajaj (Sam as he likes to be called ) over the phone.

:)

Norge 1000 amp is neutral sounding.

All the other receivers I listened to have a shimmer (around 5-10kHz spectrum boosted).

NADs are supposed to be warm sounding (around 250-1000 kHz boosted)

Btw the pre power is 21k..without the phono..I may go for the norge 1000 after all..spoke to hari if he can design 1.5 way TL bookshelves for me..

21k ex mumbai or with shipping??? I still stand by my opinion of the pre-pow being the best Norge has to offer.

BTW, if Hari is making a pair of TL bookshelves which are having higher sensitivity then even the 2060 will be good enough.

PS: Glad another person is giving Hari's TL's a shot :D

yeah...21k from their mahim factory...I did hear Hari's existing bookshelf speakers in his shop in Thane and also his mass loaded TL...I found the bookshelf with full range drivers inadequate for my needs...80-90% of the time they will play classic rock and new hindi movie music..they were damn good on old hindi movie music though..lets see if he can make a 1.5 way which suits my needs...the floorstander was a kickass though...i had liked the sound so much i had to shut it down before an upgratitis attack hit me in the shop!

In addition to the fact that the pre-power is the best sounding of all the Norge apms, it also offers the flexibility to upgrade (pre amp or power amp depending on your taste) and DIY experiments.
I recently changed the power supply in order to fit the Nelson Pass B1 preamp inside the Norge preamp, used the one designed by FM Omishra, along with rcore transformer, and it really opened up the floodgate of the Norge pre amp capabilities.
I am completely satisfied with the the combo.
@21K, there seems to be a significant increase in the prices though.

Hi Sann,

Would be highly appreciated if you could start a thread on the mods done on the Norge Pre, with lots of pics. TIA!

:)

The mods can be done within the Norge 1000 too, there is enough space within its cabinet. I have installed a protection circuit and a opa627 based preamplifier and connected one of the inputs directly to the power amp which can be used alternately to the inbuilt preamplifier with the flick of a switch. This lets me to use the pass b1 as pre. You can check my thread on the norge 1000 mods

Yes doc, your modded 1000 pic was a revelation about the plenty of space available and how to use it efficiently :licklips:

 that is steep. I remember reading the price as 16K for the Norge 1200 pre-power combo. Did they increase price recently or was it never sold at 16k?

The price was 13k for combo, minus phono & 16k with the phono option.
Spoke to Uncle Sam & he has confirmed that post 'price hike', its now @ 21k ex works, mumbai. Did ask him about phono option to which he said 'extra'!:p

From 13K to 21K? That is a substantial hike. I was considering giving my Norge 1000 to a cousin and getting myself the Pre-Power combo. But it has now gone beyond what I am prepared to pay... dang!! should have got it when it was still affordable.

I guess the prices of other amps must also have been revised. Any idea what the Norge 2060 & 1000 cost now?

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
