I would appreciate if the senior FMs would suggest a suitable power amp among these brands.

I've shortlisted a few models - the recent Norge Power 1200, Telome 8400 pow, DNM A-777

Basically looking at power amps > 100wpc

I've had a demo of the norge power amp with my akai preamp. Would be interesting to know how the other brands / models fare in comparision.

Also is there a significant difference in reproduction with a standalone power amp versus an integrated amp used as a power amp. DNM does not make any power amps anymore, only integrated amps with a preout-main in option.

I still feel PULZ will beat them.see if u get it used. personally I found PULZ 60=60 W RMS power amp was lot more powerful than norge 100=100 watters!

Just came across the impressive Sonodyne SPA 202 power amp! does anyone know about its performance?

Would appreciate inputs from FMs

It seems no longer in production.. In fact if you are getting a reasonable offer ( for used too) please lemme know - I have Its pre with remote

BTW Pulz I am referring is RS 250 just 60+60 watts it has "Dual Mono" cosbtruction ie has 2 seprate power amps in same body!

I have heard SPA 202 with Aviano 2 at one of Sonodyne dealer i like the sound. But he suggested for sonodyne Australian Monitor series power amp which will cost approx 20k.

Recently had a demo of the DNM STEREO TUNER AUDIO AMPLIFIER A-8080 U &
Hi-Fi Stereo Tuner Amplifier A-777! ( as power amps + integrated amps)

In a nutshell
1) the demo room was nothing to shout about.....
2) the amp-speaker combo used for the demo was SAD ( bookshelf speakers)
3) used my akai (as a preamp) alongside the above models ( as a power amp)
4) both amps put out pretty decent clean power throughout the spectrum although i preferred the a-777 since it has more juice !
5) both amps are more treble heavy and mild on the bass front...slight tweaking settled that to some extent( maybe it was the ordinary bookshelf speakers ...)
i just wish the proprietor had towers for the demo as i feel that might have made all the difference with a more open soundstage!

You're right Hemant! Just spoke to a guy from Sonodyne and he confirmed that they've stopped making the spa 202. :(

So now Sonodyne has nothing that meets my requirements!

was not too impressed by the DNM amps!

The Norge power amp is a strong front runner!

Will have to audition the Telome power amps to eventually decide ....

The Telome 8400 pow retails for ~ INR 28000 200wpc rms ... impressive specs toroidal trans....shrt/overload/thermal protection thd <0.05

I had a demo of the a-777, pretty sturdy amp , decent bass although the speakers were a complete let down! reasonably priced ~ INR 13500

Hi Hemant,

What would be the approx price of Pulz RS-250; Where can I audition them .... and can they be directly connected to a sound source (CD Player, Laptop etc) or will they require a pre-amp?

Regards,
Malasar

I went over to Gitaneel Arcade for a demo of the Telome 8400 power amplifier.

Used my Akai AM-U02 as the pre amp and hooked it up with the 8400 power amp connected to the BT-300 floorstanders.

Came away very impressed with the soundstage although the 'demo room' was not exactly a demo room in the true sense - a shop with a spiral staircase connecting 3 floor levels!

The 8400pow has a gain control for both left and right channels and the salesguy set it at 11oclock in conjunction with my akai volume slider at 5! thunderous sound, no distortion, clean , punchy bass and crisp treble! The rear-mounted fan was in full flow so no heat buildup. So much for forced cooling! :P He said that due to the 'vol' controls on the power amp, it can be used with a source directly without the need for any pre amp! I found that questionable as you've gotta have a decent source with a built-in pre amp to extract an output of a comparable quality! Also, if i end up with this power amp, its gonna be interesting as to how to maintain a 'balance' between volume levels with two amplifiers!

The 8400pow has 4 led indicators which the salesguy was not able to explain in detail. I'm hoping FMs will shed some more light.

1) a power led - pretty straightforward - always on!
2) a signal led - again a no brainer - flickers with signal strength!
3) a - 3db led - this kept flickering wildly in tune with the audio signal and the signal led ...now this one is a question! would members know what this is indicative of or is it just some gimmick!?
4) a clipping - level led - thankfully it didn't make its presence felt even at the 'dangerous' volume ! lol

played a variety of my kinda music and was thoroughly impressed with the total synergy !

**********************************************************

also had a demo of the telome 8400i integrated amplifier connected to the BT-300 floor standers and this combo sounded even better than the pre-power combo! clean, sharp, warm, crisp, punch! a slight tweak to the mid-range control enhanced the vocals ! had the same experience with the norge amps - norge floorstander combo! something to do with amps and speakers of the same brand designed like a match made in heaven lol .

So now its the norge power 1200 or telome 8400pow as strong contenders for my power amp requirements !

DNM Audio's A-777 trails behind...and i still have to demo the Pulz power amps!
