I went over to Gitaneel Arcade for a demo of the Telome 8400 power amplifier.
Used my Akai AM-U02 as the pre amp and hooked it up with the 8400 power amp connected to the BT-300 floorstanders.
Came away very impressed with the soundstage although the 'demo room' was not exactly a demo room in the true sense - a shop with a spiral staircase connecting 3 floor levels!
The 8400pow has a gain control for both left and right channels and the salesguy set it at 11oclock in conjunction with my akai volume slider at 5! thunderous sound, no distortion, clean , punchy bass and crisp treble! The rear-mounted fan was in full flow so no heat buildup. So much for forced cooling!
He said that due to the 'vol' controls on the power amp, it can be used with a source directly without the need for any pre amp! I found that questionable as you've gotta have a decent source with a built-in pre amp to extract an output of a comparable quality! Also, if i end up with this power amp, its gonna be interesting as to how to maintain a 'balance' between volume levels with two amplifiers!
The 8400pow has 4 led indicators which the salesguy was not able to explain in detail. I'm hoping FMs will shed some more light.
1) a
power led - pretty straightforward - always on!
2) a
signal led - again a no brainer - flickers with signal strength!
3) a
- 3db led - this kept flickering wildly in tune with the audio signal and the
signal led ...now this one is a question! would members know what this is indicative of or is it just some gimmick!?
4) a
clipping - level led - thankfully it didn't make its presence felt even at the 'dangerous' volume ! lol
played a variety of my kinda music and was thoroughly impressed with the total synergy !

also had a demo of the telome 8400i integrated amplifier connected to the BT-300 floor standers and this combo sounded even better than the pre-power combo! clean, sharp, warm, crisp, punch! a slight tweak to the mid-range control enhanced the vocals ! had the same experience with the norge amps - norge floorstander combo! something to do with amps and speakers of the same brand designed like a match made in heaven lol .
So now its the norge power 1200 or telome 8400pow as strong contenders for my power amp requirements !
DNM Audio's A-777 trails behind...and i still have to demo the Pulz power amps!
