One Week with my new LG 42LD460!!!

Bought my 42LD460 from Vijay Sales last week for 45k. Haggled with the store manager for this price, and he finally gave it at this rate. Paid half upfront, got the other 50% in no cost 6 month EMIs. Good deal I thought!

Got the lcd installed last week. Happy with the performance, yes tickers are not the smoothest but then the LD650 was for 12k more than this. I didnt find it worth paying that amount for just smoother tickers as I didn't find too much difference in other fast scenes. Also sound is better in LD460 (300 watts) compared to LD650.

Calibrated the picture using expert mode, and my STB picture looks good. Black levels are also decent, nothing to complain about. Sound is nice and colours are also vibrant. Also stopped at lamington road, and picked up a 200 bucks Sony (fake I guess) HDMI to HDMI cable. Fixed my laptop to the tv, and lo and behold my desktop came on in full glory on the tv! The corners were being cut, but the JustScan mode put it in perfect ratio in a jiffy.

I am happy with the tv so far, havent seen many HD rips at length, will post more as I use the tv.

@ csczero,

Don't go for plasma, if you consider picture quality first is LED, then LCD and last Plasma.

Err you forgot to recommend Laser TVs in your recommendation. Mitsubishi LaserVue would give u the best PQ & colors, with the the lowest power consumption figures (128w for a 75" TV). Im sure your dealer would've recommended that had he been selling those (at $7000 a piece)

@ csczero -- don't act too smart.. don't think ur the only person knows in and out of LCD TV's.. mind your language and shut ur mouth

@shree Not to take away your thunder. but let me tell you a personal experience with diff in PQ between LCD and Plasmas. I have this divx movie called Rock'nRolla. (Std dvd-rid, 700mb size, nothing exceptional). A couple of months back, I watched it on my friends then new 42" LG LH60 (CCFL backlit LCD, 200 Hz Trumotion) . The PQ was decent, but I remember that during the dark scenes , and there was quite a lot of them, the blacks were washed out really badly. They were effectively greys and not blacks. I have a LG PK550 Plasma, and the same file when viewed on my TV (using the same built-in media player) the PQ quality has a heaven' n hell difference. The colors are more warmer, and most importantly, the blacks are really blacks. So I think the logical sequence of flat panels in terms of PQ (along with technology probs) would be :

1. Full Backlit LED LCD with local dimming : (About as perfect as they come, but very exp compared to other LCDs) - super high contrast ratio
2. Plasmas (Dithering issues [dancing pixels] , line bleeding, Temp Image Retention, more power consumption) - very high contrast ratio
3. Edge Lit LED LCD.(motion judder - without motion processing, Edge Blooming, Backlight bleeding, poor black levels, documentary effect on films) - high contrast ratio [Some edge-lit TV's are worse than std LCDs]
4. CCFL backlit LCDs (motion judder - without motion processing, poor black levels, backlight bleeding, documentary effect on films) - average contrast ratio

Please feel free to disagree if you think otherwise.

I was planning to buy LG 42LD460 however today one salesman told me that the panel is not good and there will be a big problem after the warranty period is over.Is this true?.He further told me to go for a japanese panel

Hi Guys,

I finally made the purchase @ Kolkata. :yahoo: Got my 42 LD460 for 52,300/- + 500/- i.e. total 52,800/- for the LCD & Airtel DTH (free installation & 27 days free economy pack) & a Rebook Gift voucher worth 3500/-. I went for a financing scheme, where I paid 50% as down payment & rest in 8 EMIs - zero processing, no apparent hidden costs (not till now).

TV seems pretty good (still running on default setup) - with both local cable & DTH. HD content is looking cool. At the shop I played same content side-by-side on LD460 & Samsung 40C530 & I felt both were at per (keeping aside the 2'' diff).

Regarding query on how to check usage:
Start TV->Setup->press the red button (customer support) Then you will find the system information - which shows total usage hours as well.

I took one which was on display - but it was opened from a box pack right in front of me...just day before yesterday, as I wanted a demo. I checked & it showed an usage of 12hrs. I hope this makes sense?

My query: Is there any way one could reset this usage?

don't know about kolkatta but it is available for 44k in delhi.:clapping:

ok guys finally took a plunge and bought LG 42LD460 for 45000rs.Delivery will be on 14/11/2010. so what are the settings (i.e brightness level , contrast, other ) is good . Any of you who have this set can give suggestions.

The price has goneup because of non-availability of this lcd.so i paid 46000. The shop is Griha vaibhava marketing ltd.Jayanagar.

That feedback isn't justified. LD460 comes with IPS - Advanced LCD Panel & this model has got good reviews as VFM.

Good reviews are complied over test periods and not after warranty periods. In terms of quality LG is still living when the wheel was invented! I own a PK550 and trust me, the trouble I had to endure to get a problem-free panel. I am more than happy with it now but dread the day when it is going bust... and forbid if it's just after the warranty period.

i have a 10 year old 'technics' receiver/amp/speaker system.. I'm not home now, so don't know the correct details.. my friend who connected the TV, set top box n DVD player told its not possible to connect my TV (42LD460) to this receiver system because it doesn't have an optical out.. That only the newer home theater systems can be connected to the new LCD TV's.. is that true, coz it was a good system n its difficult 4 me to spend more on a new HT now.. please, can someone help me about this?

@moby .... try connecting the audio out of your set top box to an ampli or speakers. That will work. Currently i am doing the same with my Computer's Creative 2.1 SB speakers.
