Panasonic DMP-BDT220 Review

And... finally I have it. The Panasonic DMP-BDT220 Blu-ray player.

Firstly, I would like to thank "just4kix" for recommending this player. "baijuxavior" for recommending ishopinternational.com. And all other FM's for giving and sharing, information asked for.

Oh, I have waited for this for a long time and ever since, you all started discussing regarding importing from the US, I fell for it.
I ordered the player through ishopinternational.com and made a payment of Rs. 8601.00 including everything, yes I mean everything. The payment was made on the 25th Dec, morning and I got the delivery today i.e., 3rd Jan, 2013.

That's 10 days in total. Payment was through credit card in Indian Rupees, so no bank charges on foreign exchange and delivery was through ICC Worldwide from New York to Mumbai and through Blue Dart from Mumbai to Bangalore.
The packaging was good and damage free with original amazon carton.

Now, that I got the player, I was eagerly waiting to use it, so went ahead with all kinds of media. Its an amazing player and plays anything fed to it. The best part I liked was the up-scaling or re-master of audio media which are of/below 44.1kHz (Audio CD's/MP3) to 88.2kHz. I found the difference in some of the songs played. Even the internet radio (shoutcast radio) is re-mastered at 88.2kHz.

Played a few flac files of 16Bit 44.1, 24 Bit 88.2, 96 & 192kHz and I can say, they were amazing and sounded great which anyone can fall for.

Played some Blu-ray movies, and the video and audio quality was jaw dropping. Much better than what I was playing till now, through a Blu-ray writer on my computer. I guess that's why a dedicated Blu-ray player is made for. No luck on 3D as I lack a 3D display, but I'm glad that the player has the feature for future use. The loading times are really fast on this player.

Made it region free as per instructions given by "just4kix". Tried all regions of Blu-ray and DVD's and it plays everything flawlessly. PAL is not an issue, once you have this firmware updated, though you have to enable it.

Bought a step-down converter from Maxconn rated at 50 watts, priced at Rs. 200. And even after a continuous use for almost 5 hours its just warm.

Overall, I am satisfied with this player and can give a 10/10 for its value, quality and playability.

I think they should have an option for debit card payment seeing as they accept INR payments as mentioned by saketb. Perhaps you could contact ishopinternational.com regarding this and post here to add to the knowledgebase. They do reply in about 48 hrs or so to queries via their website, they also have a landline number on their contact us page.

ishopinternational.com accepts debit card for payment. First register with them. Then search in amazon.com, ebay.com and other major online shops to know where you can get the player for lowest price. After this use the ishopinternational quote calculator to find the total price. Here you need to enter details like the URL to the product, price in USD, shipping charge as given in the shop site, item description, weight etc. Save your quote and proceed to pay using debit card.

Yes, you can use your debit card for payment through ishopinternational.com.
In fact you can use all modes of payment, may it be - credit card, debit card, online bank transfer, they even accept bank deposit (with prior confirmation).

As described by "baijuxavior", and after saving your quote, kindly email them with your saved quote, and you will for sure get a further discount on the automated quotation.

Initially, I used the quote calculator and got a quote for Rs. 9600/- with "Tax for NY state" selected as "Yes". Later I changed it to "No" and the price was reduced to Rs. 9100/- with USD @ 56.00. And when I saved and requested a quote, I got a reply with a revised quote of Rs. 8601/- with a discount of 500.

Now that the USD rate is showing as 55, another 100 will be reduced from your quote.

For you information I have included the quote received from them.

thanks..not sure if its aac or ac3? the one you normally find on 1 GB rips

That is the AAC for sure for that size. This is a general audio codec known as Advanced Audio Codec and is preferred over MP3 with same or similar bit rates.
I am sure it is compatible with this player but will confirm later today.

Saketb

Can u plz check this and calculate how much it cost me

Panasonic - Geek Squad Certified Refurbished Smart 3D Wi-Fi Built-In Blu-ray Player - GCRF-DMP-BDT220 - Best Buy

The link you provided is for a Refurbished unit, which in my opinion should not be bought, as it may have quality and playablity issues.

As per the quote it says - Rs. 7602/-

Well, is it worth buying a refurbished unit for Rs. 1000/- less than a new one? This question is best left for you to answer.

Does this recognize AAC audio from ripped movie files? my Philips blu ray player does not. Thx

Shall check and confirm by evening today.

Just checked and its confirmed, it plays AAC type of audio content.
I checked a MP4 video with AAC 48000Hz 6ch at 4608kbps audio content. The audio was downsampled to 2 channel stereo instead of 6 channels.

I think I am going to check all kinds of media playability with this player.

My earlier Sherwood BDP had this problem where mp4 with aac will not produce correct 5.1. Using mkvtoolnix, I converted the mp4 to mkv (audio same as aac) and it solved my problem. The conversion takes just one minute or so for a 2GB file. There is another tool called MP42MKVAC3 which will convert them to mkv with ac3 and the conversion will take around 10 minutes.
