i stumbled upon professional AV section of panasonic website to see these models

A quick search on our forum revealed nothing except this which is an old closed thread about these displays.

some points to delibrate upon....

* specs on paper looks impressive but it doesnt have TV tuner and speakers it seems (doesnt matter for people using home theater setup)

* compatibility of a professional display for home set up and also the power consumption is too high which will be a turn off for energy conscious people.

* Availability and price. Now am also sure shops wont know this kind of a model exists and will be difficult for a demo.

but if the price is right this could be a breather for those who miss 42/50V20

Now i request fellow members who know about these displays to contribute to the thread and those living in metro cities to explore the possibilities of buying...

we could even go for a group buy for these lesser known models :D

thanx

I had taken interest in Panasonic Displays 2 years back. I was also using a HT and hence Speakers and Tuner were of no use. I believed that quality and price could be an advantage with these models.

However, prices of professional displays turned out a lot more than same size consumer models. Plus consumer models had better feature set when came to networking, USB playback etc. If you compare with 50" ST30 (Neo PDP, FullHD and 3D), the consumer model weighs 25% less and is 25% thinner as well. If pricing policy has not changed then 50ST30 would also be 25% cheaper than the professional model.

If you can get make it VFM deal compared to consumer models, I am sure there would be takers.

hmm no takers it seems

It is because of poor availability and higher price. Everything labeled "professional" carry a higher price tag, which not necessarily reflected in enhanced quality. Theoretically a model without the tuner, speakers etc ought to have lower price. But reality is not that.

We had similar experience with Dell laptops. Same laptop was quoted 10K more when we said it was for our company vis-a-vis an individual by their call center. This inspite of the fact that we almost exclusively order dell. Not sure why it is so! When we checked with thier sales manager who handles our companies deals, he literally had no answers!

This thread will not go anywhere like the previous times..

Professional TV are for.. well professional installations. They wont make much sense at homes. Caliberation options will also not be extensive or infact will be very less. Number of HDMI, Av inputs will be one or 2 max. No audio out or headphone either. The TV will be bulky and 'rugged' unlike consumer models which is the only plus but pretty useless in home environments.

This will also pass. Let us close this thread.

This raises the question: Why are professional installations needed in the first place? We should be installing consumer models instead.

Professional models selling at a discount would be a boon for users of HT and STB. We pay uselessly for speakers, tuner and plethora of connections (3 HDMI, composite, component, dvi, usb when all we need is 1 HDMI 1.4)

is this your opinion or have u demoed the tv?
the dimentions and weight mentioned in the specs doesnt have much difference...

The professional over here may not correspond to any quality features but may have something to do with longevity of panel.

Many of these professional panels are used in airports (news without audio) or malls and cafes to show ads. They are on 24X7 and hence may be it is this capability which distinguishes them from consumer models and makes them cost more.

This is just a guess.

Not demoed or anything.. There are plasma TVs installed in our office canteen and we get the remote during night time in IPL season etc.. You get the idea..

BTW, I was not talking about the particular model. If you want the exact model I can get tomorrow.
