Friends,

I am keen to get the 50 GT50 from Panasonic - have been interested in this series since the GT20 way back.....but kept postponing. Now that the GT 50 is out, I am really keen to know if any one from the forum owns this set (42/50 inch)? And what was the price they got it for.
In Delhi - the price seems to hover around 1,20,000 for the 50 inch.

Also I had long back decided to take the plasma plunge...even with the LED onslaught by Sony and others - any one has suggestions regarding the new Sony HX850 - is it competent enough to match the GT50 in terms of real picture quality, overall value and longevity of the product - given that this will be a one time investment/splurge - whatever you may call it:D!

Advice/suggestions/comments welcome. Thanks.

There are only some small/little differences between GT50 and ST50. Unless one is a videophile, one may not notice.

The price of 120K seems to be right. I was quoted 123K in Pune. I settled for St50 for 105K.

There is just no way any LED is coming close to ST50, let alone GT50.

If you are primarily looking to watch only movies, sports and have enough space, why don't you look for a projector with screen? 1.25L is a good sum of money. NO TV can give you true cinema experience.

But if you are decided on the plasma , do check the motion blur issue for SD content. I have noticed it on many VT/GT series , for some it is negligible and others its not. :)

Lest, there are inflammatory posts, let me quote sources that I had read before.

I was seriously considering LED TV because my wife liked them (for their looks), I was not sure about ambient light conditions, reflections from TV surface, etc. Intrinsic plasma advantages (main factor), bigger size and lower cost convinced me to go for plasma.

No doubt HX850 is a very good TV, but I quote the following sources:

Sony's HX850 versus the competition
I tested the Sony against two of this year's high-profile TVs, the LG LM9600 and the Panasonic ST50, and it held itself up very well. While the LG fell over in a wet heap as we'll discuss shortly, the Sony was able to match the superb Panasonic plasma's performance in some areas, most notably in its performance on highly contrasting scenes. While you will pay more money for the Sony when compared to the plasma competition, I have yet to see another 2012 LCD that gets close to it.

While the HX850 not quite as good as the HX929, the $500 difference in price makes up for that. You can save even more money if you buy the even better Panasonic ST50 plasma, but if you have an aversion to plasma, then the HX850 is a good choice.

If you can't bear to buy a plasma like the amazing Panasonic ST50, you will pay more for the HX850 but I think you'd be quite happy with it.

Yes...I was looking at the ST50 too but somehow the grey bezel didn't work for me. Thats only my opinion - but spec wise its great and am sure there is no real world difference in both these series. Just that I like the black bezel more - even my old sanyo 29 incher has it with a chrome finish and it still looks great - even after 5 years!! Anyway Just4kix - thanks for your views and your posts on ST50 - really enjoyed them. Best.

The viewing distance for the 50 inch Plasma should be ideally about 12 -15 feet right??
The distance that I would be viewing it would be around 16 -17 feet. Given the SD reproduction on these panels the farthest the best right?? Thanks.

Friends. I received a quote of 82k for Panasonic 50 GT50. I am sure this is a low price, but the dealer is genuine and not sure if this is possible?! :)

Are you sure it's really a 50 incher and not 42 incher? Looking at the price the dealer quoted, I think, there is some misunderstanding. May be, the dealer has quoted the price for 42 inch model. Please confirm again with the dealer if its the price for 50 inch model. If its really a 50 inch model, I would say, you are the luckiest plasma buyer in India to have got arguably the best plasma TV available in India at the best price. :)

I am sorry friends. The guy told the wrong price - quoted price of 42 instead of 50. I am currently confused between 51e550 from sammy or 50UT50 from panny. Please suggest me a good one.

Although the 50-51" screens will give greater area and impressive experience, for sheer quality, the GT50 cannot be touched. But then again, unless you are watching BDs, the fine features of GT50 will not come into play.

Between e550 and UT50, both are near same quality. Choose the one that had less reflective surface.

Thanks much just4kix. I took demo of 42UT50 and 51E550 at respective showrooms in Chennai. I think both look the same to me, although tech wise I can understand Panny. In fact one of my friend suggested to go for UT50 since he got a 42UT50 this Diwali and was amazed by the features. Since there was a news two days back that Panny might close its Plasma TV business (in this forum by @madbullram), I am unsure to go for its product considering future service issues. Also there is no stock in Chennai for 50UT50 even in Panasonic showroom, and they were asking 30 days and even not sure when they will get it. My final decision is Sammy 51E550 and would get it soon.
