Panasonic plasma 42 inch GT20 Vs ST30

illusion_heart,

i too own a VT20 and agree that SD viewing is not perfect. Comparison to a CRT though, is a moot point. The 29" CRT is always going to trump a 50" HDTV on SD content. I had a 42" LG LED Cinema 3D TV before the VT20 and the SD was just as bad on it. Samsung is known to have better SD performance in their HDTVs though it'd still not be able to do as well as a good CRT..

Mate, completely insync with you......my suggestion to other member is that VT/ST series of plasma is not recommended purely for SD viewing...

Hi all,

with your recent opinions for not opting plasma for SD contents i m confused.
Even if i buy cheap LED/LCD i will not get better quality either. i was wondering how u people enjoy good quality picture as there are only 4-5 HD channels available in India(except u have blue ray player for watching HD movies) n how many movies u can watch with ur storage media.
U have to switch to sop opera,News & sports ...........etc channels for SD contents.???????????????????????????

It totally depends on quality of SD content. Many of the SD channels I watch are "watchable" when viewed from sufficient distance (~12 feet for 50 in plasma with Tatasky).

I recently bought a 42ST30 and am using normal cable with STB (no DTH so no HD) ...

cable: YouScod18
STB: CISCO

beyond 4ft from the TV(42inch)...the display is pretty good for most of the channels...I am satisfied

again depends on the provider/STB/channel

for 50incher...above might not hold good...this was one of the reasons (cost aside)...i went for 42incher....

hello manpreet ! welcome to HFV :)

i have a 50VT20, and my usual distance of viewing is 13-14 feet. at this distance (or you could say, beyond 12 feet, as amol has written above), watching SD content is satisfactory, ie, watchable. though obviously some SD channels looks far better than others (like colors, aastha, star, NDTV india and good times, etc., have a slightly better PQ), you wont find anything to complain with your (50 incher) plasma in SD viewing at that kind of distance. if you could get some idea from this, and have sufficient room to watch from afar, then you have a simple decision to be taken at hand - opt for more real estate, ie, get the 50VT20 as against the 42ST30 without too much pondering over now :ohyeah:

hope that helps....

hi mates ,,

My viewing distance is normaly 5-7 feet in my present room,

I am shifting to my new room in my home which is having viewing distance of 10-12 feet .

Further more i would like to share an incident that happen to me in CROMA.

As u know i was quoted same price for 50VT20 & 42 ST30 (I would not mention the price quoted ). i again visited the store & asked for some serious discounts ,after half an hour spending with manager i got the 10% discount .they were ready to deliever the product . but when i asked i need a sealed pack plasma & will confirm usage hour .they hesitated and refused to do the same.
which means the plasma was demo piece.after chatting with local guy in croma store i cleared my doubt .he told me its a display piece that's sold in croma.

Thank god & Thank you all you people(HIFIVISION FORUM) that i was not ended in buying a dispaly piece.

Now i am trying to find the best quote with other stores.

persistence pays ! all the best for your new hunt. keep away from such buggers; and well, keep us informed :)

I bought a Plasma42U30D couple of weeks ago as I was not interested in 3D.
Due to burn-in issues involved with Plasma's I am watching all channels including SD channels in full screen mode only.
Watch anywhere between 5ft and 10ft with no issues.
Regarding purchase I suggest you try out Panasonic brand shops, they offer excellent discounts if you show intent of purchase. I got the lowest price from a brandshop.(almost 20% off from MRP)

Friends,

What should I pay for P42ST30D. The Panasonic shop is selling at for 83K and looks like they will go down considerably. Folks pls indicate at what price recent purchases have taken place and with what freebies in Bnagalore or anywhere else.

Cheers

Manu

Which city are these qutoes for?

I did not see any GT20 at any shops I visited in Bangalore. I am just looking for a good 42" plasma and can stretch my budget for 50k or so if I get something better than u30.

Thanks.

try to stretch your budget for any of the neo pdp panels, well worth it..........U30 does not have neo pdp!!!
