Panasonic ST30 Owners Thread

PLEASE HELP URGENTLY - BRIGHTNESS OF 42 ST30 IS LOW!!!!

This diwali i want to buy a hdtv and st30 42 inch was my choice...but only concern is the brightness...yesterday i checked the brightness on kohinoor showroom in mumbai and it was very low(i mean really low) specially compared to other plasmas and leds(leds no surprise)....does this tv have low brightness issues????

Leaving that this tv is perfect for me..pls share your brightness observations...i want to make a decision soon.....i ma also considering d6000 led from samsung..but somehow i dont prefer led, i watch lot of sports and movies and motion clarity for plasma is what i like...but this brightness issue is bothering me...to think otherwise....

1) is brightness an issue with st30(low)?
2)should i consider leds ex720/d6000?
3)should i wait for few more months for panasonic to release next model with more brightness?

Depends on what you are comparing with. If you have a very bright room, yes (for all plasmas)

2)should i consider leds ex720/d6000?
Both are really good TVs. You can consider them if you like the sharp picture presentation of LCDs in general.

3)should i wait for few more months for panasonic to release next model with more brightness?
'Brightness' is not somthing panasonic is concentrating for sometime now. It is always the lowest blacks.

I did check it. Will try them someother time. adding favourites in dekstop youtube and watching them on TV is also good option . But i would have loved to see if there were setting to define quality of the contents in the app itself.

I know you would tried it , but check if none of the ECO-Friendly option are selected. For me in DYNAMIC mode the screen is too bright.. my room is slightly dark though .

As BLASTO said, these are inherent problems of plasma if you directly compare them with LCD/LED

ST30 peak brightness is around 100cd/m2
 
well did you check the setting at showroom itself ? and tried to increase the brightness ? also do remember that showroom have well lit rooms and dont compare it with ambient lights in living room.

So far i have kept my contrast and brightness below 40 and this itself is bright for me.
I do own one f the best laptop screens (dell L502x - FHD Panel ) and to be honest , i rarely keep the brightness above 40% in the laptop. They simply an eye sore. particualrly at night my ST30 is soothing and i am confident i can watch it for hours without eye strain. But whereas on my laptop with brightness turned down. i still cant work for more than 3 hours..

Brightness need differs from person to person and also depends on the room in which you are going to place the TV .

All i can say is , for me the brightness in ST30 @ 40% is more than enogh at night and 50% in the morning.

The level of black it produces in a way increases the brightness part imo
 
Watched IMAX Under The Sea 3D and was stunned by the amount of depth it can produce and natural colors... Just BRILLIANT!!!

Although nothing much pop`d out , but the depth inside the TV was so great. Cross-Talk was almost nil.. Although after 20minutes of watching , there was some eye irritation.

any good 3D movie/clip which pops out from the screen ?

you were right... luckily i didnt get nausea or red eye... :ohyeah: . Now i see why you hate 3D
But i should say that , the 3D technology has developed so much , I am experiencing theatre like effect at home itself ..

Going to buy AVATAR 3D and TRON 3D.
 
I asked the same question in other forum but I think this is the right one as I like inputs from st30 owners.

1.ST30 is ok for kids watching cartooon channels for hrs?
2.ST30 is ok for kids watching same cartoons mostly in Day time in weekends?
3.ST30 is ok for movie based programes which has top and bottom black bars?
4.Also comments abt reflection and power consumption pls.

Otherwise is it adivisable to pick a led lcd TV instead?. I should have completed the AV setup now but bcos of this confusion I held back from buying 42st30 for 70k.

Thanks for the list. will try them.

I heard that samsung 3D glasses work when the shutters are reversed . Not sure how well they would fair.

But 9K per glass is too coslty. Even i am waiting for any groupbuy or some offer from panasonic.

The dealer gave me a Small sized 3D glass, even though it fits perfectly , the glass is small , hence you get normal surrounding seen.. which doesnt give that good experience

Booked my 42ST30 on weekend :yahoo:. Thanks to all forum members in giving value able inputs. It all started with a hunt for a 32" LCD and ended up getting this :clapping:

No i dont think it does . But when PS3 streams a 3D video , the TV detects (I dont know how ) and says "3D content available.."

Still yet to check a 3D game on PS3. But natively i doubt PS3 does a 2D>3D conversion. Please do let me know if it does , i will try it out if there are any methods.

But PS3 detected a 3D TV while configuring video output with ST30 and St30 detects a 3D content.. :clapping::clapping:

VT30 , maybe during christmas ? I am not so sure vasu..
