Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

and i agree with giddavr , makes more sense to get blu ray player or better a media player than a DVD. The wdtv plays 3d files flawlessly

i wouldnt agree with u regarding a media player being better than a bluray, in that we usually use the media player to play the blurays which have been converted to smaller sized rips in mkv usually. i own a oppo 83 , a WD TV Live media player, an oppo981, a samsung 1080p upconverting dvd player, a self assembled HTPC running win7 64.

the ripped content is quite good to watch, but nothing beats the PQ of the original Bluray Disc. no contest at all. I uasually watch the torrent of a movie using a media player , living in a small town, there is no way i can see the english movies in a theater, and if ireally like it and see it atleast 5 times , i will end up buying the Bluray and mind you it is as if i am seeing an entirely new version of the movie when i play the bluray. i can honestly say that the bluray experience in my hometheater far exceeds any thing seen in a multiplex.

I have a PS3, I need a DVD player to run suspect DVD's & VCD's etc that everyone keeps gifting my son.

like i said any of the philips, samsung or lg players will serve u well.

if they r not regionfree when u get them simply log onto videohelp.com and u can find the hacks there.

the only caveat is not to buy a player sold in the USA as 90% of the time the cant be hacked, but any model sold in rest of the world is hackable. also it is safe to avoid sony, pioneer or other top brands as the majority of them cant be hacked and also they r too pricey

Why can't yhou play these "suspect" DVDs & VCDs on the PS3?

Well, for one VCD's don't play on the PS3. Second. I don't want to use the PS3 for the near daily use of DVD's that may be scratched dirty, stamped upon etc. etc.

Since I am buying a DVD player, I want a region free one, so I can watch Pink Pnather and a couple of dozen other fine movies bought over the years from the US, several of which don't play in my Indian PS3. I had a cheap DVD player worth 1.8K which did that and it went bust a few weeks back after 5 years of abuse. :)

Hence, the need for a replacement.

There are a lot of brands like DVS / Mitashi and some others that are pretty good DVD players and are completely region free. They work work well and I haven't seen any signs of toruble even after 5 years of usage.

Its the cost of Blueray disc which is prohibitive. Any online renting house like 70mm or likes which rent out Blueray, there DVD service was ok-ok a few years ago......

It is Blu-ray and not blueray.

Yeah I know, was in a hurry didnt re-read what I typed, :p

looks like MovieMart rents out Blu-Ray discs. Price is not too high as well, just that will have to go for the costliest 98 disc package to make it cheap though. Any experience with its service???

That is so strange. I had the exact opposite experience. My USB Pen Drive and an SD card, both formatted as FAT32 were not recognised. I had to then use an SD card formatted as FAT for it to work. Could be a "Cluster Allocation Size" issue.

Yeah i read that. but the reverse worked for me :). In both case used the default allocation size as option. Will anyways experiment on it and let you know.

Just answering my own question, :p. Moviemart seems to be a highly reliable rental service as per numerous mouthshut and other user reviews

My USB drive is FAT32 formatted and i have been playing the breakin slides since yesterday without any issues....also 120 over and over again

My TV is expected to be installed tomorrow, please guide me through the first steps that is should follow for break in.

I have normal cable connection as of now , will go for DTH HD, which one to choose Tata Sky or Airtel?

Thanks

Charan

Just go through the first few pages of this thread. You'll get everything you need to know about breaking in the TV.

Most people share the opinion that AirTel is better than Tata Sky in terms of quality.

Thanks Satan,

Appreciate your effort and time for starting this thread, very useful, in fact i should have posted my doubts specifically instead of asking a generic question.

My questions are

How long should i have to run the D-Nice's photo settings
D-Nice recommends not to view anything wxcept the breakin slides for first 100 hours, will i have to do this for my TV
IS it ok to run the panel with local cable with the 'PROFESSIONAL1' settings mentioned by you.

Thanks in advance

Charan

D-Nice recommends doing that only if you want to acheive the best picture quality using his settings after the break in. Unfortunately most of us can't do that and succumb to watching some content or the other. Basically what you want to do is finish up with the first 200 hours as soon as possible so that you can get past having to zoom into content in order to avoid any static images / black bars.

You can do this by running slides or by watching regular TV programming with lower contrast / brightness settings.

Apart from the fact that viera connect is hopelessly slow compared to viera cast, Iam able to connect to internet and do all the stuff.
No other settings reqired if you are able to download new firmware through that same connection.
