Panasonic VT20 Owners Thread

Check if the output through HDMI is 1080p. Lot of people miss this simple check.. :D

It says 1080i 50Hz. Is there a setting that fixes this. The PQ in SD from Tata Sky HD is below par. I have enabled IFC etc. Will check out our settings later tonight.

Anybody using the wifi dongle for your VT20? Would like to know whether it is worth spending some money on the dongle at all? Or for that matter any alternative like the netgear universal wifi adapter...

I have a 42" inch Pana V20D . Recently i have notice a purple laser vertical line from top to bottom around 3 inches from the right border of the screen .
This is present across sources from Blue ray , to setup top box , so definitely a panel issue. TV is around 15 months old.

Anyone faced a similar issue ??

@Naimesh - online ups is best option ...it takes care of all the issues like, surge, spike, under and over voltage, frequent fluctluations, frequency variations etc......go for it.
As far as rating is concerned, online ups starts from 1kva minimum ....hence 1kva is the available option for u and it is more than sufficient for ur requirement.....
Brand u can consider are APC, Emerson, Eaton, Socomec, Delta.....all these are mnc's...
I would recommend APC or Emerson....Both are equally good and comes with 2yr warranty.

No one wants to reply?
which one is better for TV? which company and how many watts?

please log onto APC Product Information for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) .. they have all the info depending on ur total load and the kind of protection.

if u want total peace of mind use a UPS, but if u have budgetary constraints u can go in for their voltage stabilizer with additional surge protector. also dont forget to use a surge protector on the incoming cable or dish connection to ur tv.

for ur load i would say u are better of using the APC Back-UPS RS, 1000VA, 230V, INDIA model for connecting the TV, BD Player and the set-topbox/satellite DTH Box. And for the AV Receiver (OnkyoHT) I would recommend Line-R 1200VA Automatic Voltage Regulator with which u r futureproof evn if u upgrade ur av receiver later. Both of them have surge protection. u should also buy a PVR for the cable to the TV.

hope this helps. this is what i use. I can attest to the quality of APC. others i am not familiar with

While I think a UPS for a tv is an overkill but still you could get either of these kinds 1} On line or 2} Line Interactive and avoid the Off line type. Which ever you get make sure that its final output is a 'Pure Sine wave'. As for the wattage I believe an 800VA rating should be good as it will be approx. 550W which is sufficient to cater to the max demand by the 50" panel.

Another option could be to simply get a high quality home Inverter-UPS combo complete with the Sealed Maintenance Free battery and hook up your house's 5A electrical circuit to it. I have been using this exact model in 1400VA capacity
Power Solutions :: Home Solutions :: Home UPS (Pure Sine Wave) :: Smiley :: Su-kam :: Ek nayi soch

coupled to two of the following batteries of 150Ah rating
Power Solutions :: Home Solutions :: Batteries :: SMF Battery :: Su-kam :: Ek nayi soch

The switchover is fast enough that the current LCD does not even show a flicker. Never had any issues with fluctuating voltages either. The tv and lights etc are steady even when the stabs. conneted to the air conditioners do their coil dance going clackety clack.

Hi.....

hey guys
little off topic. what will be the average price of a pure sine wave ups?? will only connect my plasma tv , mini hifi system and dvd player. home theater will be added in future! considering 800va one(is it enough??), but dont know which brand to choose??

Can u tell me the model and price?

'Netgear"N600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter (WNDA3100v2) from hydshop.in.
Rs.3600/- I am sure u can get it for something like 3000/- or less if u live in a city.
just be sure to buy the v2 model which is certified by Panasonic for use with the TV.
the regular model wont work. the v2 will have a button while the regular one doesnt.

Its available on Ebay around 3100 online+discount coupons..Don't know about v2 or simple version..what about Netgear WNCE 2001 universal adaptor?available around 5k..

Dear All,

Booked my VT20 for 70k today, expected to be delivered on Tuesday.

Thanks all in the forum

Cheers

Charan

Guys, dont waste money on wireless dongles.. Just buy the cheapest wireless router with repeater functionality and connect it to the TV.. Thats all is needed.. I have done the same..

Total cost 1000/-

Wireless connection to TV, Bluray, WDTV live and one more port free for other device..

Don't go for wireless dongle.. First of all it is costly, second, it cannot be reused.. It has to tied to TV, Third, you cannot connect any more devices to it..

Buffalo WCR GN Broadband WIFI Wireless Router & Access Point Compact Size New | eBay

The above is the one Iam talking about.. Should available for ~1000 locally.. Get it and do the below..

1) Configure it in Wireless repeater mode. In this mode, it connects to your primary wireless router wirelessly and makes it available through the 4 ethernet ports it has. (It asks for password to connect to your network same as your laptop)

2) Place it near your TV and connect the ethernet port of the TV to one of the ethernet ports of the router.

3) Connect other ethernet ports to other entertainment devices which requires internt (WDTV live/Bluray Player/Torrent Client etc)

So final connection will be,

Internet Ethernet wire --> Your primary wireless router (existing) --> )))Wireless))) --> Repeater near TV (wireless router no 2) --> Ethernet connection to all your entertainment devices.

If you configure the repeater to do wireless repeating, the throughput will be decreased by half. But since you are connecting the repeater to ethernet ports, there will be full throughput.. Hope it helps..

Have not been keeping up with technology, but what is a torrent client? Is it a dedicated piece of hardware?

PS: I know what torrents are?

Got my VT20d deliverd on Saturday 15th and installed on 16 morning. Could not all the steps mentioned in the forum as deewali purchases too precedence :)
thanks to the entire group.

Initial experiance:

(1) Tuned TV channels. the band sequence got slightly changed from the CRT i had previously. But was able to tune the channels missing in the old 15yr crt Akai 29" tv. regualr cable was full of grains but what to do certains channels like sankar and movies now are not in Tatasky.

(2) Tatasky connected via HDMI on AV1.

(3) Tatasky SD - Sun TV and English channels looked the best among SD. Filled the space without required zooming. others need to be kept in zoom 3 to fill all pixels without any bar.

(4) Tatasky HD 1080i - Man what an experiance in a 50 Inch. could not accept SD or regular Cable after watching HD. for a change the entire family only watched Discovery HD and Natgeo for a while. No tv serials to watch and cry :)

(4) Sound was pathetic. akai 29" with woofer was slightly better. again not tried much on settings. Looked like a drama effect. Need to give the sound to AVR. need to look at speaker option for regular TV watching.

Just did the following :

(1) Wall mounted between 3.5feet(base) to 5.5ft(Top). High wall mounting so that even on the worst case the refelction of ours while in the seating position should not be seen on the TV. Dont care for the visible wires.

(2) installation guys set the TV to dynamic mode with 85 contrast, 2+ brightness etc. I changed it to cinema mode it looked better.

(3) Could Not play:
blacknight and rihanna "mp4". Wanted t showcase the blacks to my family.
xmen firstclass xvid.biz - i too hearing this file for the first time.

Could play :
divx avi, Low quality.

(4) checked for usage hours - unsuccessful. Nothing apeared. hold volume - and recall 3 times. pressing recall was a bit slow. Need to try again.

(5) Set the default aspect ratio to zoom3 to utilise all the pixels.

To Do:

(1) Inverter upgrade from 800va -120amp(not sure on amp): there was power cut that did not allow the plasma to start on the inverter. Need to upgrade the invertor. Saw the specs to know that the TV consumes 495Watts :). Dont mind at all. will be used thoughout the day as usual :)

(2) Blue ray player with 3d. Will buying a pana BD player make sense. "A region" player should play A as well as C. Thats what i heard from Pana guys. need to see.

(3) Content Needed:
(i) Need to subscribe for blueray title - does 70mm of big guys lend blu rays ?
(ii) Need to download blue ray and 3d rips. looks like mkv is my best bet as mp4 is not playing. suggestions please.

(4) Basic checks on TV and panel to be done ? Saw few minor mirrage kinda effect below the discover hd logo at the top. but very faint. nervous on the various cheks suggested in blogs. need to take them one by one peacefully to gain further confidence :).

(5) Binding the AVR and TV. Have an onkyo SR506, onlyo 240w rms sub, pure acoustics front and rear speakers. REceiver support HDMI. need to see how to connect the AVR, TV and other units. May be have to procure more HDMI cable.

(6) AVR SR506 supports, DTS, Dolby digital , neo 6.1, All mode and few more. is it enough for blue ray player or an upgrade required ? suggestion please.

Please feel free to point out, if i have missed some important procedure for the initial hours.

Thanks..

Blasto,
Even though this is a great idea to get all the devices connected to internet, I don't think that you will get the same throughput as the ethernet port as finally it shares a wifi connection. Are you able to stream a hi def movie onto your wd from the other network over wifi?

pls let me know...
