special thanks to all the forum members:clapping:

so owners of xt50 any inputs/updates you want to share your experience during the first 100-200 hrs, yes there are so much info available in the forum if you can PM it is easy for me . sometimes finding it is difficult to search as you can understand.

Guys, my hunt is over and i bought a 42xt50 today from Girias in Bangalore.

To cut a long story short, my wife decided that a 50" was an overkill for us right now and almost 30k costlier than a HD ready 42".

Haggled the dealer down to 48.5k from 51.5k for the TV and that was as low as they were willing to go. Getting 1 3d glass free and no other stuff.

TV got delivered and i set it up myself with some help from friends, the Panasonic guys will probably show up on monday to "install" :)

Hi Fag,

Did 3d glasses come with the packaging? or they were given separately?

1. Is the amount of reflection same in xt50 and ut50(which model is better with minimum reflection)?
2. Can i watch standard-definition channels on 50xt50 at a distance of 14 feet without any problems?
3. What are the precautionary measures to be taken of while viewing either xt50 or ut50?
4. Is it safe to buy plasma online through flipkart, if at all where is it better to buy through outside showrooms in bangalore.

hi guys,

can anyone help with the 'ideal' aspect ratio to watch movies to fill the screen completely? Without losing the view!

I have Panasonic 42XT50 and Hi-Media 600B media player. Usually when watching in 16:9 aspect ratio I get the black bars which scares me of burn in.

Other aspect ratios which zoom in tend to cut the video image.

Any help would be great!

1. Not sure but UT50 people have not really complained about reflections, depends on individual room settings as well.
2. Yes - no problem wit this.
3. Only initial 200 hrs to avoid burn in, IR etc - Refer to the threads on the forum.
4. Not many people buy a TV especially Plasma online, outside showrooms are better/safer.

1. UT50 is fhd model and hence costlier. It is better for watching true 1080p stuff, aka, Blu-Ray. For normal TV/dth, low quality downloaded stuff, DVD, etc. both are same.
2. Yes. In fact, at that distance, any artifacts for HD-ready resolution will completely disappear, ie, not discernable by eyes.
3. Read my article on image retention and burn-in.
4. Your call.

Got the P42XT50D delivered today. Ordered through flipkart online just a day before diwali. got it for 46,500 plus a HT free. Good service from flipkart and got a brand new piece.
But didn't get the wall mount and the TV warranty card or any 3d glasses. Called up flipkart and they said they will ship the wall mount bracket within 48 hours. I was happy with their service(atleast for now).

How do we register the TV for a 3 year warranty? Also, is the 3d glass supposed to come along with the TV box itself?

regards
Mahesh

Didn't you ask for the 3 year warranty card from flipkart.

called up flipkart. the warranty card is not required since the invoice is sufficient. no 3d glasses though which is OK with me since I do not plan to watch any 3d right now.

Will post my detailed observations on the tv later. for now here are the initial impressions.

1) I set all settings to low(< 30) during the initial few hours. Both the instruction manual and the technician say that burn-in is not an issue unless watching the same static image for more than 8 hours which is impossible in my view. But didn't want to take a chance still.

2) Not very impressed with the image quality as of now. I have regular SD content with a set top box. Somehow the images look blurry and out of focus. Tried to increase sharpness, but still images look de-focussed. Will play around with settings and also try to play some HD content via a blue-ray player and hdmi port.

3) I can see the NDTV logo's letters jagged. not a straight line which makes me think the problem is somehow with up-scaling due to poor quality signal from the set box.. But will take the help of a friend who is an expert to see what the issue could be.

4) colors look really natural which is the first reason why i chose a plasma. I hate the over bright led tvs. But the family doesn't like the natural tones. they want bright punchy colours which are possible by setting picture mode to dynamic. so not an issue there.

5) sound is decent for my small living room. the home theatre system that came free looks useless to me. plan to sell it on ebay. it is unpacked and still sealed in the original box.

will play more content using hd, dvd, usb and then post a detailed review with pictures in 2 weeks.

well can anyone help me wrt the following points in XT50 tv option how to go about it.

Pixel Shifting or Pixel Orbiting or the equivalent function on the TV's picture advanced settings, if available
Avoid letterbox (2.35:1) mode or pillar box (4:3) mode for long duration
Letterbox mode is when video is displayed in long rectangular window with black bars on top and bottom. Pillar box mode is opposite wherein the image is diaplayed in tradition 4:3 aspect ratio with black bars on each side. Viewing in these formats causes the "black" areas not to age evenly with the "exposed" area. Some SD channels show movies in letterbox mode in 4:3 format, i.e., black bars will be seen even on traditional 4:3 CRT screens. When such a channel is seen on 16:9 HDTV, the letterbox is further elongated and black bars cover nearly 50% of the screen area.(courtesy just4kix)

How come you are able to get no pixellation watching sd channel from your tv at a distance of 6-8 feet, whereas other members who have been using 50xt50 have reported they have pixellation if they watch less than 10-12 ft distance.
