It all depends on your eyes.
Plasma PQ is unbelievable but its reflective. So you have to have Black out curtains and lights switched off to see the magic.
Led/LCD - NO for me , no value for money.
LCD - Sony BX420 - Full Hd

You have to see what suits your needs. If its just a tv that u need then go with a lcd & save money too.

Compare samsung,lg and panasonic plasmas. Buy the one which pleases you both on the PQ front as well as on asthetics. These days plasmas are thinner than LCDs a wee little bit thicker than the LED LCDs. Plasmas are the best bang for the buck.

as i was discussing with a very knowledgeable person yesterday....go in for Plasmas and it has to be panasonic. rest all wont make sense in plasmas

I would second that. Don't have much experience for LED. Was using Panasonic 42C10D and just a couple of days back installed BX32 in parents' bed. Both connected to TataSky HD. There is JUST NO COMPARISION. The plasma gives far better PQ than LCD and much more value for money. The LCD from Sony world costs 30k while an upgraded version of the plasma I have is available for 37k.

Theoritically, since both are HD panels, the 32 incher should give a better sharpness as the pixel density is that much higher. Yet I found my plasma giving a mile better sharpness. Technically, LCD panels have limited contrast ratio as compared to infinite ratio of plasma.

Also, I guess LEDs are nothing but LCD panels with LED back light. The LCDs do have an upper hand when it comes to brightness but the trueness of colors and tones is nothing as compared to plasma.

Also, I found the LCD much more fatiguing to eyes while I can watch plasma for hours without any fatigue.

Also, the LCDs can never match the viewing angle that a plasma can provide.

To conclude, I would ask you to check all three panels side by side : once with some sports channel with a lot of movement like football or F1,
once with some news channel with ticker at the bottom (business channels like CNBC,
once with some Hindi soap opera having those WAGs wearing unrealistically vivid makeups,
once with NGC HD or DISCOVERY HD
and finally with an English blueray disc with really high black levels like dark knight.
Also, have the dealer set all the three panels at same brightness, contrast and sharpness levels but with zero color. The one giving the truest B&W pic is a better one AFAIK.

These tesys should not let you go wrong while selecting your panel.

The November issue of What HiFi (11/2011) deals with this issue. They have strongly recommended Plasma over LED/LCD. I will look out for electronic version of that issue and if I find it, will send you.

Sir, it is November issue (UK edition). Most publications in UK/US release their magazines a couple of months in advance.

that solves the mystery.... you had me perplexed cause i was wondering as to how did i miss this issue

:D
I thought these soap operas were useless. Now you have found an use case.. ;)

How true.. But nobody does this.. :(

My simple suggession in addition to the above.

Checkout "Planet earth - Mountains"
Check for colour RED and BROWN. (Scenes - volcanic erruption which shows all shades of red/orange, Mountain cliffs for brown).
You are in for a surprise. None of the LCD will close to any Plasma.

Hi manish,
i know buying a good tv can be a frustrating but a rewarding experience if you get the best within your budget. As always, you will come across many suggesting LCD/LED but please read a bit on the internet about how plasma is much more superior in so many ways. For those dark inky black levels, accurate flesh tones, an immersive cinema experience, less eye strain......you cant beat a Plasma!!! you cant go wrong with Panasonic or Samsung.

To give you a bit of background the Pioneer Kuro plsma was and still is the resigning king when it comes to reference level tv's. All tv's are made trying to get closer to the kuro in terms of black levels, contrast ratio, etc but none have still managed to surpass the kuro. Also remember black levels is one of the most imp criteria to judge the overall pic quality of any tv. The panasonic neo pdp panels have come closest to the kuro in terms of black levels and are the best tv's in the market. It would not even be a fair comparison comparing these panels with any of the LCD/LED tv's.

However these panels are only available with the Panasonic V, G, S series and not the lower series. V being the top of the line of the series. So, I would highly suggest to go with any of these series as long as you get the neo pdp panels. you will be totally stunned by what you see!!! If your budget does not allow you to go for them, then perhaps also look at samsung but from what I understand there is a group buy going on for V20, so maybe you can look into that. If you somehow can manage to get the 42V20, that would be perfect............still is the best 2D tv in the market!!!

You will still find many people and salesmen advising you to go with LCD/LED but please dont listen to any sales talk, most dont know what they sell!!! I strongly suggest to demo the V20 with diff video content HD and SD and then let your eyes decide. Also, remember plasma's are never displayed properly in stores. You will see them sitting next to LED/LCD tv's in an overly bright showroom. Light can kill a plasma, so please request the salesman to turn down lights and then demo the tv.

all the best!!!

My first suggestion : Panasonic 42GT20. It is full-hd, has neo pdp and infinite black along with 3D. It is available for 53k. A bargain at this price.

If 45k is your absolute fixed high range, get the samsung 43D490.

But remember, the price difference between them is less compared to the performance you will get out between these.Good luck hunting.

Sharp and Pioneer resurrect Elite with line of LED LCD TVs. Elite PRO is the Kuro's come back...............it is Pioneer's award winning technology. The high-end plasma line became the benchmark for the home theater market, leaving a rather large void in the hearts of the HD obsessive after it kicked the bucket two years ago. Now, Sharp and Pioneer are bringing back some of the technology used in that line, while leaving the Kuro name to rest in peace. The Elite branding will remain, however, with the new line of LED LCD TVs. The tv's start at a price range of $6000.

For the lesser privilege mortals who look at affordability...........you still cant beat the Panasonic VT30!!! The inky blacks enhance give real depth, and the excellent level of insight into dark areas. Unlike many previous Panasonic plasmas, this set can produce a great deal of punch which, combined with that black depth, makes for a wonderfully dynamic and dramatic picture.

Yes but the sony hx is available from 1.5 lacs onwards whereas vt30 starts at 3 lacs and does not come close to the perfect inky blacks of sony hx 92

But i've heard Plasma's consume more power just like old CRT's , while LED consumes very less power !! If the TV is running for hours and hours then i wud say go for an LED !!
