Plasma or led

if budget can be stretched a bit, go for the 42V20.........one of the best 2D TV in the market and was the best tv of 2010!!! if not then U30 is a better choice than the X series. But both U and X will not have the neo pdp panel which panasonic is so famous for, which also gives you that amazing pic quality...............give it a thought!!!

Isn't there any neopdps in the panasonic's 2011 2D TV lineup?
It is plain pathetic.
neopdp is a great tech and has nothing to do with the 3D. Why mix up these two is beyond me.

This thread is surely confusing me between

Pana 42gt20 3d model

&

LG 42LW4500 3d model .

:( :(

hi, first decide between plasma vs LED............then go for the models. suggest you to demo both under low ambient light with diff video content, both HD and SD. Spend some time and then go for what your eyes like.
I would of course prefer Plasma but then again that is my personal choice for reasons already discussed here in the thread.
all the best!!!

The technology of both LCD and LED is the same AFAIK. The only difference is the backlighting in case of LCD is CFL lamps whereas it is LEDs in case of LED TVs as the name suggests.

Hi capt,

just curious to know what is on you mind at this stage. You need to decide what works best for you. There is a reason why Pioneer Kuro plasma was the king for so many years and many still do consider that as a benchmark. And there is also a reason why Pioneer did not invest in LCD technology at that time and which is why you will see plasma tvs in most videophile home theatres. LCD/LED tv's are marketed extremely aggressively compared to plasmas so much so you will also find many sales staff encouraging you to go for LCD/LED over plasma. There are times I have even go into arguments with them for misleading the consumer.

No doubt, LCD/LED technology has come a long way and in the recent past have managed to come very close to plasma technology. some tv's might have even surpassed plasma black levels but are we talking about select models here or technology in general. there is also a reason why LCD/LED have tried so hard to beat plasma..............plasma being the benchmark. And the breakthrough in LCD/LED technology is remarkable and truly commendable.

I would advice you to spend some time reading on the internet and then yourself figure out which one is more superior within your budget. You might get the best tv even beating the kuro on paper but at what price??? Just came across something which might interest you...............

Pioneer Elite Kuro plasmas that were developed in 2007 and released in 2008 still crush all the new 2010 model plasmas, LCDs, and LEDs. Amazing, simply amazing. Pioneer Elite Kuro plasma TVs must have used alien technology because how can a human being make something so perfect? David Katzmaier is a legend in the ISF, Hollywood, video science and engineering community. Some people are stupid enough to go for the really thin "edge-lit" LED LCD HDTVs, they are worse than the thicker LED HDTVs, because thicker ones have either full array (full matrix) or local dimming technology.

It is 2011 and the Pioneer Kuro is Still the pinnacle of flat panel technology. Black are so black. Colors so sharp. Pioneer tv nearly went bankrupt refining the best amid the crash of the us economy (8k tv's are a hard sell amid economic crisis). I have compared my 60" Pioneer Kuro to every current tv on the market as of 2011; Nothing compares. Panasonic (which has pioneer bought technology in it) is close. But not quite.! Simply put: Pioneer Kuro = Still the king. It's just sad that the majority of the public is brain washed into thinking that LCD is better. I think the Pio Kuro will remain the benchmark for several more years. Simply astounding! To me, it's sorta like a little inside secret for the few of us who own the very best. Thank you Pioneer.

I could go on and on giving you reviews, ratings, comments, etc..........and I dont even what to discuss this with LCD/LED supporters. Just wanted you to know the basis of television technology down the years and then make a wise decision.

Regards

@aakashr, I am quite sure that Plasma is the way to go. Just awaiting the latest models to be launched in the CSD.

Any new models will be introduced in india by April-june 2012 only.
There is festive season with discounts, then clearance of 2011 models and then introduction of 2012 models in obscene price.. This is the loop..

Hi Blasto,

India is behind first world countries by at least six months and CSD is behind India by at least another six months.

What I meant by new models is not the latest models but the current models available in open market but not yet introduced in CSD.

Cool, adder, cool! I accept that my LCD is the most defective TV in the world, and that I do not know how to make adjustments in the picture settings. Happy?

But if you had read my post correctly you would have understood that my comments are only about the PQ when compared with the plasma set. Within the LCDs, this is one of the best 'IN ITS RANGE'.

Well i am just trying to help ,i suggest you to play a bit more with the settings, because the first time you described the picture, its sound like its in factory setting with all kinds of processing switched On.

I have a couple of suggestion, which you may try and see if there is difference. This is just basic settings you can do in most sony lcds to make the picture look good, especialy for SD.
Turn Off the following
mpeg noise reduction
noise reduction.
black corrector
clear white
sharpness to no more then 10 to 12.lower the better.
.
If your lcd tv is showing lots of artifacts, the tv is most likely set at a rather high backlight setting which can highlight quite easily how the poor the source. You can even switch on the light sensor or power saving mode to Low,it should make a significant difference and definitely much easier on the eyes.

Thanks, adder. I will try these settings when I get the time, and let you know the results.
