Plasma TVs from CSD Canteen

Hi Captain

I am using LG PJ350 - 42 inches Plasma for the last 7 months it is very good and i paid around 40k for it.

As u have asked

Pq & Sq - Very Good
Service - Best
Features - Very Good (Especially Razor Sharp Design)

For the price u quoted it is a kill, go for it.

Regards

Sub

Hi Captain,

Why not buy a new model as Rajesh G picked up.

I am sure you can get Panasonic 42" X30 for around Rs 37,000 if you shop around!

The CSD rates are overrated!!! That too for old models!

Regards

Captain, for a 10X 11 bedroom, your viewing distance could be at 7/8. I think a 32 inch will be perfect. Please take a look at both and compare. In fact, if you are around my place drop-in. My room size is same and I have 32 inch in it and I think its perfect.

The living room is 42, which is you what you saw during the HT demo, i think it might be tad bigger. Just my opinion.

@ Ram, that's what I thought too but my kids won't agree. Ofcourse, final decision is mine.

Thanks a lot for the advices guys. Going by the advice and reviews, Pana is off my list. LG pricing looks unbeatable that too for current model. I hope Sub wouldn't mind if I check his TV out. Then I'll take Ram's generous offer for home demo. I just reached Nagercoil. Will get back by Sat and take this further.

The samsung you mentioned is a 2010 model and was ahead of the LG models in 2010. Price seems good considering it was sold for >40k. I own the sister model B450 with extra computer in and HDMI connections. I can vouch for it.

Dont know about the LG mentioned.

Its 2009 model. 2010 is named as "C" series.

Latest D series 43D490 3D Plasma can be bought for less than the price quoted for B450 and hence its certainly out of question at price more than 30K.

Hey Madhu, viewing distance is more related to the content than the TV size and even I would prefer a 42" HD ready plasma for the bedroom if its available around 30K which is the price of a 32" LCD.

captain is getting lg pt350 (2011model) 42" for 27k, this is perhaps is the lowest price we have ever seen for a 42" screen in any technology. it will be interesting howmuch it cost outside csd

Should I go for the LG 42PW450 Plasma 3D, with Tata Sky HD and 1 Spectacle, for Rs.39,990/- (ezone offer)??

Please do advise. How will it be for the current (or future) HD transmission?

Must order by tomorrow!

What is the best price for a Full HD Plasma 42"?

Thanks

Did someone say hi-jack?????

40K for Plasma 3D is undoubtedly good. it is unbeatable. it is a steal. And that too with TS HD and spectacles.
It will be good for current/future HD transmission..... since all SD channels are being labelled as HD anyway!!!

Definitely order by tomorrow. If I was in your shoes I would have ordered yesterday.

Why you want to know about price of Full HD plasma? Just buy the 3D Plasma for 39.99K and then stay away from this forum... otherwise members will soon make you regret that you bought a TV when you did, like you are making me regret buying my TV when I did instead of waiting for a time like this.

I am MBR not Madhu. Viewing distance makes all the difference in selecting a TV size and its the most important factor. Bigger the TV size and closer you sit, it will take a toll on your eyes and SD channels will look crappy + pixelated (even in HD channels). Same way, just because you have HD content does not mean you sit far away, if you do, then you will loose on details and HD experience.

There is a ideal situation for everything. I had posted a detailed write-up on this and also a Distance vs ideal size chart along with HD/SD comparison. Do search the forum and read about it. Do not want to write about again.

Here is a simple link for reading:
How Far Should I Sit From My HDTV?

Given that even in US you do not get 1080p, I had suggested 32 inch HD ready for a bedroom with 6-7 feet viewing distance. Our HD transmissions are 1080i and are better off in a 720p view.

Did you buy it or still waiting?

Been a bit busy and not finding time. Buying from CSD is a tedious process. Take a form, fill it, get it counter signed by the Station Staff Officer of the local Station HQ, take a DD for the exact amount, deposit in the depot, go back for collection, take the papers to the local dealer, hand over the papers and sign some papers, wait for delivery. As the old adage goes, kuch paane ke liye kuch khona padta hei. (To gain something you have to loose something):ohyeah:

MBR - sorry for the name confusion :)

I know there are calculations for the viewing distance and have gone through those threads and have understood the gist of it.

Basically it also depends on the compression level and other features like deblocking (which essentially makes the picture blurred through deblocking algorithm) and scaling efficiency for content non native to the panel resolution. These things also makes a HUGE impact on viewing angels. As I have observed by taking a 46" LCD last year, I can sit as close as 3 feet even with such large screen if the content is good enough to be watched from that distance - as you suggested, you may loose details for good HD content if you sit far off.

So, its very subjective for us to calculate viewing angels just based out of those calculations alone and its best to AUDITION the type of content you would see at home to understand if you feel comfortable at that viewing distance.

I agree.

But given the crappy HD we have until and unless one has a good Bluray player it wont make much difference. Given that home viewing will be majority for Captain I had suggested this size which is the best of many options

With my obsession with my Stereo system upgrade, I had put this on the back burner. Now my kids have generated so much heat behind my back, looks like my backside would be set on fire if I didn't do something urgently.

Cuortesy my dithering, some models have gone away while some have come.

Listing them here:

1. LG 42LK430 LCD - Rs. 36360/-
2. LG 42 PT350 Plasma - Rs. 27775/-
3. Samsung 42b430 Plasma - Rs. 30058/-
4. Samsung 40B530 LCD - Rs. 36556/-
5. Panasonic TH42X20 Plasma - Rs. 33410/-
6. Panasonic X10 - Rs. 39521/-

From googling, I found that both the Panasonic models are either outdated or are available outside @ same price  and hence ruled out.

Samsung 42b430 Plasma is 2.2k costlier than LG 42 PT350 Plasma.

LG 42LK430 LCD looks like a more attractive deal compared to LG 42LK430 LCD due to bigger screen size.

I have to take a decision within a week or 10 days. Video gurus, need advice.

TIA

Rajesh

I was sleepy when I made the previous post and have not put clearly what advice I'm seeking. I've narrowed my choice to the following: -

LG 42 PT350 Plasma - Rs. 27775/- Vs Samsung 42b430 Plasma - Rs. 30058/-

LG 42LK430 LCD - Rs. 36360/- Vs Samsung 40B530 LCD - Rs. 36556/-

I'm leaning towards LG 42LK430 LCD as it is HDTV. Hope my choice is right.

TIA

Rajesh
