Plasma TVs from CSD Canteen

only lg seems to be giving csd current models, b series is samsung 2009 model, panasonic models also quite old, so it will be a lg plasma vs lg lcd
as you already posted before
plasma price looks quite good, never heard anyone got a 42" screen that low

do you plan to use as computer monitor then gofor full HD,if majority content is SD , then HD plasma is good option

Captain: JD has 43D450 for 33k. seems to be a good buy

But that is not full HD Ram. If I opt for HD ready instead of full HD, am I not better off with LG PT350 @ Rs. 27775/-

Edit: Just checked with the dealer. He said that since the models change rapidly and CSD rate contracts do not keep pace, they would bill for 42B430 but would deliver PS43D450 for Rs. 30058. But even at this rate, this appears to be costlier than the comparable LG model i.e. PT350.

What you say sounds logical but by spending just 8.8k more, am I not better off future proofing my self?

Looking forward for advices.

Rajesh, being in this forum would mean you will upgrade, so buying a full hd makes sense.

I think in that size the LCD's are good vfm, so choose the one that looks best. If you can, borrow someone's callibration disk and play them at showrooms which display them, so that you are sure of what you are buying.

hi capt
festive season (diwali) is round the corner. why cant u convince the kids to wait for 2 more months as there may be mouth watering offers, after all tv is a thing that we wont buy often.

models in CSD will never be latest as a lot of paper work and approval is involved at various levels, u know how our government works...

Cap ,

Just curious , why plasma and not LCD ? rumor is CSD has more options in LCD than plasma. Feel free to correct me.:)

Here is a simple link for reading:
How Far Should I Sit From My HDTV?

Given that even in US you do not get 1080p, I had suggested 32 inch HD ready for a bedroom with 6-7 feet viewing distance. Our HD transmissions are 1080i and are better off in a 720p view.
Did you buy it or still waiting?

There isn't a standard to broadcast 1080p anywhere on the planet. The highest resolution that is transmitted is 1080i. Only Blu-ray has 1080p24 content on the disc that you can view directly. But if you watch a movie on 1080i50/60 transmission you are essentially watching a 1080p 24/25 resolution movie. Like everything it is not the resolution that matters, it is what you do with it. Some uplinkers compress the heck out of the signal and that makes 1080i look like VHS quality. Sports is usually 720p60 as the aim is to get the maximum frame rate possible for better motion rendering.
I have 720p and 1080p TVs and for DVD and for most TV (SD+HD) viewing I prefer the SD and for most Blu-ray content there is no competition with 1080p.

Hi Kittu,

Sorry didn't see your post. The TV would be on the employer's account and the transactions were closed till 30th Sept for applying depreciation on assets and hence got a temporary reprieve from my little marauders all these days. Now is the time to take the call.

I've listed both LCD as well as Plasma and I was leaning on LCD because it is full HD whereas Plasma is only HD ready.

Cheers

Wow Rkg, that is indeed a great news. Having waited this long, I can surely wait for another 15 days much to the chagrin of my kids though.

Edit:
BTW, just saw that this was ur 1st post. Welcome to HFV. Do post your introduction in the 'Introductions' sub forum.
