Potential Buyers- PlayOn!HD Media Player

I came to this decision after finally figuring out that the US model doesn't come with a hdd either. This was confusing because I had earlier read somewhere on their website - as did sgmane - that it came with a 500 GB hdd. See below extract from the Buy page on their website.

Playon!HD with internal HDD
  • Playon!HD is able to support internal Harddisks (currently tested up to 2TB, the largest available HDD capacity).
  • For USA users, we currently only offer the Playon!HD without harddisks here on our Buy Now because many users choose to install your own harddisks (harddisk installation video).

This info is correct. On the European site they are selling online with the HDD option. But its costlier. In the US they are selling the HDD version only through their resellers. The non HDD version cost USD169 + 5 for shipping. They have not mentioned the price for HDD version in the us.
 
Well guys the list as of today is 17 people - 18 pieces ... well power to the people :). One of our forum member-Anoop Samuel had talked to Rangaprasad and he said that it would be available on monday or tuesday at the latest (it would clear customs today or tomorrow)

Been following this thread for a few days. Still haven't made up my mind about splurging 10K on this, but I am in Bangalore and the feature set looks tempting. I'd appreciate it if somebody could help answer these.

1. How are warranty repairs handled ? Does the player get shipped out of the country ? Who pays for shipping to/fro ? International shipping is bound to get expensive.
2. Did anybody check with Rangaprasad about reducing price further if we dont need the HDMI cable ? I already have an extra 2m shielded cable from the US.
3. Any idea about the SD PQ ? I saw somewhere online that the xtreamer is pretty good with HD but not SD.

warranty is being handled in Bangalore itself. it is their responsibility.

price reduction - tried our level best. this is the best he can do. HDMI comes in the package.

Playon hd media player is based on realtek 1073+ chips whereas most advanced players (dune,egreat..etc) uses sigma 864x or 865x chips.Sigma chips fully supports Hd Audio formats.They allow "Passthrough & Down mixing" of DD True HD & DTS HD Master Audio.A C Ryan web page has following details abt Audio Support

From what i understood, this is the first lot of DD+ chipset based POHD that we are getting in india. Ranga told me that this set supports HD audio.

Thanks to ur question, i took the pain of researching the different audio formats given above.

Well the bangalore rains managed to conk off the broadband in my area. So back online now guys.

Will be collating all the addresses and new entries and as Thomas has mentioned, we are not negotiating any more, since ranga too raised his hands, giving too many issues :)

Just called Rangaprasad now. Still stuck in customs. The delay is due to software upgradation at customs. So if it clears customs tomorrow, he sould have it by Wednesday. He said he will inform us once he gets it.
