Preparing for a 9.1 setup.. Worth it ? Your thoughts please...

Nice thread,I was also in a dilema of extending from 5.1 to 5.1.4 /7.1.2 with some Dolby atmos capable receiver which is launched recently and with an Auro 3d & DTS UHD update later.. the information provided in the thread gives some sense ..coz mine room size also a 14 feet by 11 feet dimensions.. I dont know whether my room dimensions will give that sound effect or not for the price paid..better to wait some more time i hope so..

Thanx buddy... Many of us (Including me) limit us to 5.1 because of space constraints & budget limitations.... I had already experienced 7.0 setup using Audyssey DSX mode (Front wides)... That was very good experience beyond 5.1, it also pushed me to explore 9.0.. Hence trying to experience it without spending much....:ohyeah:

Wow... How was the experience different from 5.1 to 7.1

Very good.. Have experienced a 7.1 setup in two different layouts... One with Front wides & one with surround back speakers... Of both, Front wides made a huge impact in my opinion...

Having already done the above experimentation, it was time to move using front wides & front Heights..... This 9.0 setup is even more convincing than the 7.0 i tried earlier....:ohyeah:

Tried Dolby Prologic IIz.....When you have both front wides & front heights, "Dolby Prologic IIz ignore's the front wides" & plays only on 7.1 channels using front heights... So stopped using that feature...

DTS Neo:X Cinema uses both front wides & heights and expands 5.1 -> 9.1 & it is really good....

Right now watching scenes from familiar movies again to see how DTS Neo :X & Audyssey DSX modes enhance the normal 5.1 listening....

Will share my detailed experience soon

Btw any idea on what should be the ideal placement of front height speakers ?

I tried searching around for optimal speaker placement.. But really couldnt find the ideal height for front height speaker.... I have mounted them approx 10 feet high from ground... Juz below the ceiling....

Re-played some movie clips in DTS Neo X and Audyssey DSX mode to take complete advantage of 9.0 setup...

Yesterday watched the movies "Captain America : Winter Soldier" and "into the Storm"... And i must say it sounded fabulous on the setup, particularly "into the storm" was very good... Juz felt that the tornado was right in front of me :ohyeah:

Only now it feels like a complete Home Theater

I think a 11.1 set-up would be even more fantastic with the addition of surround back channel...

Juz wondering if a bipole speakers like Wharfedale Diamond DFS be an ideal fit for Front height speakers (or) should that be a normal speakers.....

I would like to convert stereo integrated amplifier to a stereo power amplifier and use with AVR pre-outs...Is it possible?

The reason i ask is because, i want to control the stereo amplifier volume thru AVR pre-outs... Hope i was clear in explaining...

Is it simple Mod that can be done any one who services electronic equip (or) is that a complex mod?

Appreciate your inputs...

I think i didn't state the requirement clearly...

I would like to convert a stereo integrated amplifier with pre-in & Pre-outs to a 2 channel power amplifier (Disable the volume control)

The reason i ask is because, i intend to use this as a 2 ch power amplifier with my AVR... Is this a simple modification (or) complex one ?

If simple can it be done by any local electronics technician ?

If complex, i will drop the idea and use it as it is...

Got hold of Denon SYS-1312 satellite speakers (5 No's) for 3K, which are part of Denon DHT-1312XP HTIB package....

http://www.audiogamma.it/caricamenti/pdf_link/DHT-1312XP_EN.pdf

Thinking to let go off my rear dipoles to my brother and planning for hemisphere like speaker placement for regular surrounds - front wides - front's...

Now am looking for juz one more speaker preferably the center speaker of the above speaker package....I am planning to use 6 of these satellite speakers for surrounds, front wides and front heights.....

Been some time since i updated the thread.... sold my FS (Sonus 2605) and replaced with Sonus 1501 v3 BS...

Few reasons why i chose the BS...

- power handling of the BS is only between 40 - 80W..
- my present AVR is capable of pumping more than 100 W of continuos power in stereo mode, so BS is at the mercy of the AVR...
- even when all channels driven, AVR is capable of producing 70W/channel which should be more than enough for movies...
- Planning to have timbre matched speakers (fronts, front heights & surrounds)...

Replaced the stereo integrated amplifier with Sonodyne stereo power amplifier flicked from my friend....

Next plan is (in few months) to get 2 more pairs of Sonus 1501 BS.. One pair for front heights & an other one for surrounds....

You are so faithful to sonodyne that you don't want to change to some other brand...[emoji1]

Share new set up pics.. And the cost

Ha ha..It is because of their price that i don't look for other brands..:)

If i were to pick 2 pair of BS from some other brand it would easily be 45 ~ 50K.. For the same price i would get 3 pairs of Sonodyne 1501 BS which gives me the flexibility of adding additional speakers for my HT...

The BS are temporarily on plastic chairs supported by shipment box...Yet to hook them up ls... Will share pics once i complete it..

Got it thru hifimart.com, Price is 14.4K, sadly 10% discount for Sonodyne products that hifimart was offering has been removed

Was just checking your old posts where you mentioned you wanted to timber match the fronts and front heights and hence going for BS. OK. I am looking for decent BS to add my existing 5.1 to 7.1. It's a pioneer series for speakers I am using. Wondering to go for another BS-22 as surround back or move existing rear BS-22 to surround back and have new brand say sonodyne in rears. What's your view?

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
