Dear Anil,

Just curious!! Where do you get these 78RPMs.. I am collecting them for a while, esp, Tamil/Malayalam/English songs, but they seems to be rare. Only English and Bengali were found plenty, in the places where I picked.

Could you suggest me some sources/g.markets esp in south india, other than online . Thanks in advance.

Let me know if you have any plans to visit Chennai, so that I can direct you to a place where you can find 100s of Tamil/English 78s.[No beatles or Elvis :)]
I will give you contact# to get 78 RPMS. Esp Tamil and English. [Will send you a PM]Getting Malayalam 78 is rare in Chennai, even in Kerala. Luckly I may get a few through sources.

Price of 78s have gone up a little from good old 50Rs to [Rs.100-Rs.150] a disc.

This March, I picked up some good 78RPMs in Calcutta, Free School Street.

some twenty good English LPs I could get, and for the collection sake ticked few Hindi and Bengali drama too, among the thousand hindi records.

the price was quite cheap.. Rs.40.

I am Suresh from Chennai and a lover of music be it tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, carnatic, western, Japanese etc.

I had a record (LP) of MSV's rare musical instrumental album Thematic Tunes by MS Viswanathan when i was young and had listen to it so many times. Fading away with times, I lost the record. (we do not realise the importance of such rare collections). Now I am searching for the same and unable to get it. I have searched the web, local music stores,,,, unable to get it.

Today, i made one more attempt and found link to this site where you have posted.

I am eager to listen to the album again after sooo many years.

Its my request if you can host the album in any site so that i can download the same.

I will consider this help the best help i ever got from any one.

Please upload the album and provide the link.

If you can provide your musical interests, i can share some of my collections too.

I have both MSV's thematic music and Ramamoorthy's Indian Classical Jazz LP.
MSV Thematic tunes LP is with a friend. He got it to digitize. Once I get it back from him, I can digitize it and give it to you in person, I am agaist uploading the music online[I am sorry to say this].
So once I have it , I will PM you.

New additions to my collection

1. 2 Made in India [Philips]Mono Tube amplifiers connected to each channel of my SOTA Sapphire record player. Even with ordinay wiring and oridinary speakers[SONY], it sounds so divine.
I had shipped my Everest and Grundig speakers already to Trivandrum. So now left with an oridinary Sony Speaker and a 4way Pioneer in Chennai.

2. YAMAHA Natural sound Stereo receiver R 500. The last one from Yamaha, in that series.
It is a superb amplifier with a very good phono stage.

I am very happy to receive a reply post from you. Normally most of the blogs / forums are inactive and even if you send a post to the forum, no reply comes in.

I am extremely happy that you have both the albums of MSV and Ramamoorthy. They both are legends and these rare gems are out of stock. Glad that a few enthusiasts like you keep it going.

I can't wait to hear from you on the digitisation of these two lables. I have been longing to re-listen to these classics.

Hi Guys. I just discovered a few Western classical LPs in my drawer. I am not sure if they are any good in terms of condition, but lovely music. Wondered if anyone in Bangalore is willing to check them for me please? Will figure out value (if any) later and whether to sell or give them away.
 
For classical music Decca record lables are sought after. I think particularly mono recordings of early years for their sense of reality, as some people don't prefer engineered/mastered stereo. Can you post record lables and titles ?
