Can you elaborate the process. its redmi note3.I'm new to android phone:cool:.

You will have to ssh to your pi and edit the smb.conf file under /etc/samba to include the path of the external hdd as shared and restart the samba daemon. Google a bit for sharing folders over samba on raspbian and follow the same. My s4 is dying at 3% battery else wudve shared some links too

Need your guidance:
Kodi (openelec) running on rpi-2. HDD's are connected to it via usb hub.
Its connected to my network via wireless usb adapter.

Now the requirement is "play movies on mobile (android) without copying to it"

Played via Bubble UPnP. But not happy with that.

Downloaded ES File Explorer. But didn't see the files (rpi2).
Please elaborate the method :)

openELEC already support and installs SAMBA, so no need to install it seperately, however did you enable it, when you install openELEC and run for the first time, openELEC makes you go through a small configuration steps and thats where you need to make sure you did choose SMB along with SSH.

You might have missed it, thats the only reason I can think off why ES File explorer was not able to see openELEC on the network. Also when you open ES File explorer, and choose LAN option from the left menu, do click "SCAN" to scan your network and see if it finds openELEC.

This is assuming your mobile and openELEC are on the same home network..:)

No need for that. openELEC take care of everything, when you plug in your external drives it shows automatically under "files" in openELEC, and when you fire up ES flie explorer, scan openELEC and browse, it will show the external device there as well along with other openELEC internal file system....

hmm. I'm not good with linux too. Started to learn recently only. Searching is difficult here. reason below.

For Samba follow this tutorial.

https://pimylifeup.com/raspberry-pi-nas/

Works great, I can access all content across all devices, including PC and smartphones, tablets, etc.

Will try that. I haven't seen that tutorial before.

The situation here is:
1) A rpi2 running Openelec (kodi). It was easy setup and running smoothly.
2) Another rpi2 running Raspbian. Using it for minimserver, deluge and now also as a desktop for the time being (My computer gone bad)
Early i tried to mount hdd (pendrive). But was not successful. So removed minidlna from the second rpi.

How to get again the configuration steps.
I choose LAN on ES, but it showed the second rpi (raspbian) connected to wifi router via cable. Not the Openelec.

I'm using transparency. Dat setting was not dre. Wen i change it to confluence its dre. Enabled and viola. Openelec in mobile.

Thanks mate. It was simple. Can the movies be listed in library of ES?

^^ Meaning? it should show all the movies once connected

I am sure you can help me with this one. Kodi Openelec version, does not give me an option to create Video Library. I can create Audio library. Hence in my other devices I see my music files, but no videos. Kodi OSMC version could do both.

Is there something different that I need to do for videos? If not, I might have to go back to OSMC just for this.

MaSh

openELEC is exactly what kodi is, and kodi is exacty and more what XBMC was and XBMC was such a bit hit coz it allows you to create elite, polished video library with all cover art and posters. ...all other version like OSMC are just forks from Kodi, what they can do Kodi can do as well..

Not sure what exactly you mean by "Kodi Openelec version, does not give me an option to create Video Library" but check out my openELEC in the video below. I have created all kinds of video libraries, ....English Movies, Hindi Movies, Movie Sets, Animated Movies, TV Series ...etc

Just patiently watch the entire video and you see how extensively I have created my video library.

Hmm Okay, let me take a look. Thanks

I got the Raspberry P3 and HifiBerry Digi+ playing with moOde yesterday. Setting it up was easier than I thought, thanks to a lot of advance help and advice from Rikhav, and all the posts here on this thread.

My first impressions are very positive (as compared to my Music PC). I only got about an hour of listening yesterday. First off, the sound stage seems more 3D front to back (though perhaps a little bit less wider). Overall tonality is also very good, though slightly different from my Music PC in a way that I can't describe just yet. In any case, it sounds good, and is not any less better sounding. And the ease of usability of this setup itself is a big plus!

What I have planned for the next week or so:

- Right now, I have it powered with an Apple iPad power supply. I need a 5.5mm x 2.1mm to microUSB adapter to use the HDPlex LPS to power the RPi. I've ordered one, and it will take about 3 weeks to get here.

- I have a HDD connected to the Pi's USB port just now. My Router lets me hook up a USB HDD (upto 2TB) to it. I plan to try that, and feed the Pi music files via wired ethernet. I still have to fully figure this out, but I should manage: I have the theory figured out.

- My laptop has JRMC on it. I'll try setting it up to serve files to the Rpi over the network, so the Laptop/JRMC will act as a music server, and the RPi/moOde will acts as just a renderer.(Thanks to sam9s for his very descriptive post about this a bit earlier). I'll of course connect everything via wired ethernet.

- I don't have an optical cable with me, and I'll try and borrow a good one fro someone here, just to compare with the coaxial cable that I'm using just now.

@hydra - Also, have a play with DLNA/UPnP. Either Moode (not so good) or install the excellent MinimServer. It will also let you add in radio streams and with the addon MinimStreamer you can upsample/resample, convert to WAV on the fly, etc.

Might work for you or not. Wireless streaming has worked very well in my setup... especially in terms of galvanic isolation... though with the excellent HiFiBerry Digi+ and using optical output it would be a moot point.

Also, the Pi is an excellent radio streamer... lots to do in this area. You can add stations or direct stream URLs. Makes for excellent background listening, classic stations, top of the charts, etc.

Thanks, regeHA!

I will add this to the list too. I'd read up in detail about minimserver after I read your posts here, and it looks very promising indeed. In fact, If this network streaming thing works for me, I was thinking of cutting out the laptop from the last stage, and getting another RPi, attach a HDD to it, install minimserver on it, with this one being the server, and the Rpi and HifiBerry Digi+ being the renderer.

The install process onto the Rpi seems a bit uh, involved for a guy like me who knows nothing about Linux and commands, though. An alternate option would be to install minimserver on the windows laptop itself and use it the same way (at least to try things out before I invest in another Rpi).

Some basic questions (not fully related to the above) from a linux noob:

- Will it be possible for me to install minimserver on the same RPi as Moode? I'm guessing that I can.

- If I do that, I'm guessing miniserver would index the files and then feed the data structure to Moode? Is that how it works?

- And for that I would need minimwatch on another machine (like my Windows Laptop) to control Minimserver, right?

I know regeHA loves minimserver :D, but I have tried and it does not offer anything that moode cannt, moode can as well do everything that minimum server can, plus moode is a UPnP renderer AND a DLNA server both. Minium server is just a DLNA server ( a good one no doubt, but not better than Moode in any way, and Moode can act as a renderer as well.)

Infact if you ask me I enjoyed asset upnp (another UPnP server) more than minimum server. If I have to move away from Moode in any manner I would strongly suggest Subsonic ultimate player and DLNA/UPnP server as well. (runs on Rpi as well) Another one Serviio is also quite good

AND you can also add radio streams to Moode as well.:):)

@hydra .. ans to your questions ...

Will it be possible for me to install minimserver on the same RPi as Moode? I'm guessing that I can.

You dont need minimserver if you are running Moode. Moode acts as a great DLNA server.

- If I do that, I'm guessing miniserver would index the files and then feed the data structure to Moode? Is that how it works?

See above, when Moode is in action as the DLNA server it already has indexed the files. :)

- And for that I would need minimwatch on another machine (like my Windows Laptop) to control Minimserver, right?

Yes correct, but I take this as a disadvantage.
