Right now I am listening to ...

Proprius records. A mid '70s analogue recording (available even on CD) of sacred music: a large choir, a pipe organ and few trumpets inside a good-sounding cathedral. Sometimes a bit harsh in the highs, this recording is excellent to evaluate male and female voices (both soloists and choir) and the size of an extremely wide 3D soundstage. The height of the 3D image is simply stunning (with proper gear) and can virtually extend above your ceiling. Pipe organ pedals should shake your floor. If not, you need new 'speakers :-)

Despite the composer's complaint that Bolero has "no form, properly speaking, no development, no or almost no modulation", this is one of the more popular opera pieces and especially easily 'accessible' to newbies. It is also a very 'sticky' piece of music. You listen to it once and it keeps playing in your head till you go to sleep! The other pieces in the disc, Daphnis et Chloe and La Valse are also very good, but in a slightly different vein than the more dramatic Bolero. The former is more delicate and melodic and the latter, more sombre and even devilish at times. All-in-all, a wonderful VFM DVD-A, though the material is only 24-bit/48Khz...

Lol, that Robert Plant & Alison Krauss rendition of Black Dog, What a massive Fcuk ery!!!
These stunts very very rarely work & thats why meddling with a classic is so damn stupid!

Spoils all the fun of savoring Black Dog 8 or 12 yrs old

haha, Denom, if I had heard that version when I was 20 years younger, that would have been my thoughts to the letter, but with age, one gets too lazy to be critical and I for one thinks it was pretty brave of Plant to try new stuff considering that he is in his early 60's and all. :)

But the original Black Dog, I have to admit, is in a class of it's own.

And don't get me started on Black Dog of the 'spirit'ual kind. Black Dog Centenary (the 8 year old one) is one of my favourites :)

Sunil

Hi Sunil,

By all means the 'spirits' are most revered!!! So pls do get started!

Actually the worst thing that happened was the death of John Bonham, which robbed us Led Zep fans of their Fantastic Music & resulted in Plant & Page doing these Stunts to keep going/experimenting/whatever you may call it..... Still you have to admire their bond of 'one for all & all for one' which brings me to the track showcased below, hope you like it, you old rocker!!!

OMG, Denom, now I wish I was 20 years younger. And Yes, I will have you know that I have been castigated for disturbing the serenity of my living quarters which is otherwise tuned to the pleasant sounds of people crying having been foolish enough to try the 5 crore question

Regards,

Sunil
