Right now it is G3, the first one. At the risk of inviting the wrath of Instrumental Rock fans here, here's a quick & dirty review: great playing, good for a couple of listens. In descending order of musicality - Eric Johnson;Satriani;Vai (ducks to avoid Vai fan assault!)

!
What have your discoveries been like? Downloaded Allan Taylor(folky) and Dhaher Youssef (World music!?). Will let you know my ears feel about them!
Shine on.
The first G3 CD was the first CD I bought after I purchased my first proper music system (an Aiwa 3 CD changer with humongous amount of bloated bass

, I think in '97 from a shop in Jackson Heights, New York).
Personally, I like their solo efforts much better than this series of combo efforts. Eric Johnson's Ah Via Musicom (especially the number Cliff of Dover) is something I come back to again and again. What guitar tones!
Among Satriani's albums, I still like Surfing With The Aliens the most, though Flying in a Blue Dream is decidedly more adventurous and comes neck to neck with ..Aliens. How I wish he stops exercising his vocal chords and let his six string do the talking:lol: I am glad that I went for his concert in Mumbai.
Steve Vai, he of the coquettish and flamboyant fretmeister. For me, his best work remains the live double album Alive In An Ultra World (minus his vocal efforts, of course

) I don't know why he sang Light Of The Moon with that quavering voice:indifferent14:
It's nice to know that you listen to Allan Taylor as well. His "The Beat Hotel" is a reference track for me. In a real good system, some of the myriad percussions on this track can even be heard from behind you! I am glad and angry that I listened to this track on a real high end system. Glad because I got a taste of how music sounds on a real good system. Angry, because whenever I listen to it on my system, I am reminded of its inadequacy.
Play on!
