mick hucknall is a genius

He is. Unique voice. I think I have posted his song 'Angel' some time back in here.

One of my favorite albums and bands. Have most of their stuff and yes Mick is a genius. Too bad the US never discovered this genius/music.

Underrated? He is, probably..

It isn't that this music wasn't appreciated in the U.S. Singles from their first three albums were well received and had also topped the charts there. Sometimes a band loses out due to poor marketing strategies of the recording company. This has happened before, too. Independent imports raise the prices of the albums and hence receive a poor response....

very rarely does the US discover musical genius outside of the US

Beg to differ there. You'll find a majority of Brit singers/musicians and bands have dominated the U.S. music industry over the years. Similarly scores of artistes from across the border, Canada have become an integral part of American music. Here is a representative list to give you an idea...

1) Paul Anka
2) Leonard Cohen
3) Joni Mitchell
4) Anne Murray
5) Gordon Lightfoot
6) Denny Doherty (The Mamas & The Papas)
7) David Clayton-Turner (Blood, Sweat & Tears)
8) Bruce Cockburn
9) Neil Young
10) Bryan Adams
11) Rush
12) Nickelback
13) Bachman-Turner Overdrive
14) Avril Lavigne
15) Nelly Furtado
16) Diana Krall
17) Sarah Mclachlan
18) Celine Dion
19) Alanis Morissette
20) Shania Twain

...... and many, many more! :)

Ah, Emeli Sande! A great songwriter/singer from U.K., whose debut album Our Version of Events was released in the year 2012. Not that she's new to the music scene. She was involved in songwriting and collaborated with a number of artistes like Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Susan Boyle, Leona Lewis, Sugababes and others..... Her voice reminds you of Beyonce at times although she professes great admiration for Nina Simone. :)

Emeli ain't bad (IMO, better than Beyonce). One of the songs I liked 'Naughty Boy Presents Wiley Feat. Emeli Sand performing Never Be Your Woman'

Yes, a lot like Beyonce. Difference being that Emeli Sande is a songwriter/musician/singer, Beyonce is just a performer.

See her performance here. Another version of an iconic song sung in honour of the original singer/songwriter.....

Continuing from metalmickey's post...

EMELI SANDE - OUR VERSION OF EVENTS

The album debuted at UK No.1 by smashing all previous records (Susan Boyle, Leona Lewis) as the fastest selling album and achieving double platinum when it was released in February 2012. It can be classified as a R&B/Soul release with a couple of ballads included.

NOTEWORTHY TRACKS: Heaven, My Kind of Love, Clown, Read All About It, Next To Me and Wonder (the track mentioned by Sarith in his post). Honourable mention Imagine.

MICHAEL BOLTON - GREATEST HITS
1985 - 1995

This album is a compilation of Michael Bolton's hits between 1985 and 1995, and was released in 1995.

Back in the mid 1990s, Michael Bolton crashed into the world music listeners consciousness (or at least in my corner of the world) when MTV released a music video with a double entendre of a song-title called "Can I Touch You.... There?" that contained some very suggestive scenes in the Vid. The Vid captured the imagination (and the eyeballs!) of a generation of viewers. So when this album was released shortly thereafter, there was naturally a rush to get a copy! Turned out to be a reasonable buy with these love-songs and ballads.

P.S. - I've often wondered how Michael Bolton would have fared without all these very "colourful" music videos of his songs!! :)

Too much live music! Don't even feel like picking up the headphones when I get home.

Even though the Chennai "Season" is over, have spent tonight and previous four evenings at carnatic concerts.

Oh how I wish that "too much live music" could be the worst problem I ever meet in life! :D
