sam9s HTPC Project! powered by XBMC!!

To get correct display out,one need to adjust overscan level in graphic card control panel.
When you connect AVR to graphic card,it may identify AVR as Flat panel display.
But if you check windows 7 settings, you can see your AVR name.

In playback devices, you can see Realtek auido & not AVR.

Hi spiro

Even I have the over scan problem when i connect my nvidia gt440 card to the yamaha 571 receiver thru hdmi. I do not see the option of my receiver under the display but shows only the 1:sony tv. I also run the win 7 64bit ultimate edition. Will try to make some modification tonight and revert back.

Thanks

My Denon AMP appears as display device, but I am using the VGA for display as the HDMI out is very very bad on my HDTV. I use the extend desktop option and HDMI is used for audio only. The bad video quality may be due to the TV because even the bios screen is not bright enough. I think upgrading to a FHD will solve the problem.

manoj.p, does beta 3 have HD Audio and Does BD ISO has Menu support?

I am recently hvaing a peculiar problem, after I staert my completer (win 7 Ultimate) and then XBMC auto starts (after 30 secs), XBMC minimizes suddenly and desktop comes up but on restoring the xbmc hangs, any idea? I see nothing on the then desktop. On doing task manager kill task after restartiung XBMC the same does not happen again. I am otherwise planning to start my PC and exit XBMC and see after 5-10 mins if something is popping up on the desktop.

I thing some other application is trying to get the focus after xbmc. Check the list of applications that are set to auto load. If it is a dedicated HTPC then set xbmc as the shell.

I have no overscan issue as ATI cp has a slider & I can adjust the display.I have both way options left.

I think I need to look into the nvidia control panel to tweak the settings. Also to make matters bad the sound output also gets disabled now and then as my motherboard has an inbuilt gpu which I went into the BIOS and disabled as I have installed the nvidia gt440 card. But even then the nvidia hd sound drivers shows as no output. Also here the output devices it lists out only the 1: sony tv rather than my receiver. This all works fine if i connect directly to the tv rather than the receiver.
I believe there is no settings that I need to do as my blu-ray player/dish tv hd works fine without any issues thru the receiver for both video & sound.

thanks.

I have only a doubt, the sound out settings.
If we select ATI/realtek as primary device, windows 7 will take over & resample the output which we have selected while speaker settings. Now with DVDs sample rate will change & with BDs higher.

So how to get bit perfect? Is DirectX output solution so that we can bypass Windows?

I think it is better to keep it at highest (in my case it is automatically set at 192 / 24) so that upsampling is done for all output

Baiju... help some links can you give for the same (shell)?

You can refer to this forum. You can use the shell concept if you have windows xp or else refer to this sam's site i think in the 2 or 3 page for making the changes to the user account if you have win 7 installed. If you have win 7 then life becomes very easy.

Thanks

I adjusted thru the nvidia control panel with custom resize option as the auto detect is not working correctly might be as my tv is hd ready and not full hd. The exact resolution in the xbmc shows as 1366x768 if I set this as the resolution then the screen is crossing the tv screen size.

Changing shell to xbmc is very easy. Start 'regedit' by typing regedit at the Win 7 start search box. Browse to '[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cu rrentVersion\Winlogon]' . Under you will see the shell as 'explorer.exe'. Just change the value to your xbmc path "C:\Program Files\XBMC\XBMC.exe". Note the double quotes. Restart the pc for the change to effect. Another option is to use a tool like instantsheller. I have discussed these steps in my HTPC thread. You could also follow the method sam9s gave. If you want to see explorer later, you will need to startthe task manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL). But you can create a button for this action in the XBMC Eden confluence interface which also is given in my thread.

HTPC HDMI has problems with HDTV resolution. For HDTV you need to set the resolution to 1280*720 or even lesser. In ATI there is option to adjust the resolution for HDTVs. I am using the VGA out with 1366X768 resolution for display and HDMI for audio only using extend desktop option. Selecting the duplicate desktop causes the display to go blank in my TV VGA as it doesn't support 1280*720. If you select show desktop only in VGA, then HDMI audio won't work. I think, for HTPC, a FHD display is the best.

+1 to that, after I adjusted thru the nvidia control panel to the custom size I get the perfect screen size, no issues so far of the screen blinking or closing. I think we have to live with it for hd ready tv. Not yet planning to go for full hd atleast not this year. My sony bravia v series is going strong even after 5 yrs of usage. I feel the picture is far better than the current generation of tvs just my 2 cents..

thanks

My current card does not support HD Audio out. I am planning to upgrade to GT430 for 3D out + HD audio out. will know only then if it works out.
Currently the player is decoding to 5.1 PCM and outputting it so.

About Bluray menu - All of the open source bluray players do not support full menu yet. What they have is something like BD-lite. It usually reconstructs a lite menu of its own and starts with the biggest track.

I tried out on my gt440 the new eden xbmc indeed outputs hd audio. But still yet to get stabilized as now and then I see my receiver blinking with the audio info changing from dts-hd ma to dts es which is the not the case with either mpc-hc or potplayer for the same ripped blu-ray file. So I have reverted back to the other better stable version xbmc rc2 with the mpc-hc player as external.

Thanks

**OFF TOPIC**

Can my GPU MSi R6670-MD1GD5/components handle games at 1920*1080p [even if its on low settings]

PS: PRESENT CONFIG [Proc ? E5300 @ 3.60 GHz ? Mobo ? GA G41MT-S2 ? RAM ? 4GB 1333XMS3 ? PSU ? CX 500V2 ? MSI R6670-MD1GD5] can handle almost any game at 1440*900 mid - high settings with decent frame rates.

TIA

have created a new user profile in Win7 and added the xbmc to shell using the option Sam has posted. Now no worries. Sam thank you once again

Finally XBMC 11.0 stable version has been released.

XBMC 11.0 Eden | XBMC

Downloads | XBMC

http://ftp.df.lth.se/pub/xbmc/releases/11.0-Eden-changelog.txt

Haven't tried it yet. I am also interested in the XBMCbuntu. Will try them and report later.

I am running this with hd audio output. The bitstreaming is very nice and also installed the Aeon Mq3 skin. I verified for all types of output dts/dts-hdma/dolby digital/tru-hd all the files work perfectly without any issues so far. Hence I have temporary disabled the playercorefactory.xml file and playing everything directly with xbmc itself. The cpu usage is bare minimum of 8% even with a hd movie rip of 35gb with dts-hd audio. No crashes of the xbmc so far since more than a week I have installed the new version.

thanks.
