A query:

Wanted to use my existing PC to HTPC. My plan is as follows:
1. Buy a new graphics card with HDMI as my existing mobo doesn't has HDMI.
2. I don't care about the sound card as already has 5.1 analog o/p and a S/PDIF. Don't want much fuss with sound as my stereo setup is separate.
3. My mobo is M2N Se MX Plus and CPU: AMD Phenom X3 2.1GHz
4. Windows 7 OS.

Just to know if there is any catch or loop holes that I am overlooking? I need simple playback of movies into 42" Panny Plasma.

Please suggest.

please provide more details about your hardware brand/model...

your proc is fine...all you need is an entry level gpu like gt430 and a good psu like FSP saga II 350 watts if your need is HTPC only...for gaming you'll need better...sound card not required as new gpu will have audio over hdmi.

In PDVD,did you select option "Non decoded HD audio by PDVD" in audio output?also HDMI out?
Have you selected Realtek audio as default device in windows?
Also you need to config sound output in windows as "Studio Q"?
Else you cant get HD audio as it may get down sampled by windows.

I have used TMT for a very short time.Still once I select HDMI in TMT ,I got DTS-HD out in AVR.

^^ These will work with XBMC out of the box. But functons of some buttons like power, www, email etc. cannot be changed. However you can use a tool named eventghost to configure these buttons also.I have discussed how to use these remotes using eventghost in my htpc thread. These remotes can be used with logitech harmony URCs also. Now I am using HP MCE remote which is more suited for XBMC and is highly configurable. There is no need for eventghost if you are using MCE Remotes. The one I am using is NEW HP MCE /REMOTE CONTROL /USB IR RECEIVER /IR Emitter | eBay . Forum member srinisundar helped me in ordering this one and the cost was appx. Rs.900/-

Assuming that you have configured the windows audio settings (like sprio mentioned), in TMT5 all you need to do is to choose nvidia high defination audio under sound card, HDMI as output mode and original primary audio only under mixing mode. The last one is imp as this is one that would bitstream audio. Check the snap shot below

iBall ATX cabinet, iBall 300W PSU
AMD Phenom X3 8450 CPU (2.1 GHz)
Asus M2N MX Se plus Motherboard (with PCI and ePCI)
2GB DDR2 800 MHz RAM

Change the PSU as well, apart from getting a GT440 ......

^^change PSU if you dont want to fry your gpu and some other parts as well as these generic/bundled psu are utter crap...you can easily get FSP 350 watts or get corsair 430 v2 if you need a little headroom for any future upgrades.

for PC remote get the 900/- one as baijuxvior has advised as he's tried a couple of them with his rig.

Has anybody used HTPC with pj and avr? I am trying to connect my Zotac mini HTPC with Yamaha AVR and PJ but getting very blurry display on the screen. Sometimes loses signal completely, however, when the HTPC is connected directly to the PJ bypassing AVR the picture is fine and crisp on the screen. I have configured the display settings of HTPC and AVR but no success. Any tips?

I use my HTPC along with Pioneer VSX21TXH receiver and Optoma HD20 projector. If you think that AVR is degrading the PQ, check whether the AVR allows HDMI passthrough. In general, Proj or TVs have much better video processors than AVRs.

Thanks. How to check whether AVR allows HDMI passthrough? In case i continue to get blurry picture I'm planning to use HDMI splitter at HTPC rear for video directly to PJ and audio through AVR HDMI. Is it possible?

Sam, thanks it worked (as always) :). Next hurdle how to configure XBMC to start BDPs in TMT? Tried one Advanced Launcher add-on in XBMC, having trouble as it always refers to the BD drive.

Another issue is that XBMC Eden is reading 7.1 BDPs as 5.1, will check with TMT tonight.
