Samsung 64F8500 Plasma Discussion Thread

My TV doesn't Buzz as well,,

as for the price, yes I did pay the old agreed price 1.84 Lakh.. The dealer renegaded on his promise to give me some goodies free,,saying that with the price increase its next to impossible to do it..

Pictures coming soon

Then buy it, and try to figure out immediately after installation whether whatever this BUZZing sound is there or not. If you can hear any buzzing sound, asked them replace it saying that you are not comfortable with that.

Yes, that's what I am planning to do :)

Cheers, Ravi

1106.3 available for download. After update the first thing noticed is the menu font has changed. Picture looks stunning as always.

I am still trying to get the best settings on BD :) Can't stop playing with this one.

One major downside is that new smart remote is a battery drainer. Already changed twice since I got it in June. Samsung is shipping standard remote free to US owners. Hope something happens soon here. I love the new remote except that it eats up batteries in no time.

I thought you get both the normal and the smart remotes, is that not the case?
Why not program it on one of the universal remotes?

Does the other 2012 / 2013 plamas/LED remotes work with this? Those are available in ebay.

Thanks,

Regarding the setting, I don't think there is anything that suits all. I tend to change based on the movie. Sometime there are bright, colourful movies (mostly animation) movies which needs toning down the parameters, and sometime it is dark, when you need to rearrange to meet the dark scene requirement.

Yes, battery is a major issue with the remote. Specially the "power on/off" button does not work with low battery. BTW, any idea the alternate regular remote Samy was giving? Whether we can also get one preferably free or atleast at a cost?

Never purchased a universal remote but I guess it is time. Thanks for the suggestion.

Last year's IR remote will work too.

hello guys...just bought the 64f8500...i have a couple of queries:
1)how did u guys break in this set? did you guys use break in slides which according to avforums are essential as they age the phosphers evenly pre calibration btw personally i dont care that that much about calibration just about the dreaded image retention from channel and dth logos...so are break in slides necessary to prevent ir?also i read on avforums that contrast should be kept below 50% for first 100 hours
2)which dth service should i buy w.r.t image retention i know the tata sky logo is translucent what about videocon d2h...is their logo also translucent?
3)my tv will mostly be used for normal tv viewing as it will be set up in the living room ...any tips to eliminate static channel logos..
4)i do not have any bd player and any audio set up can any one advise me which bd player and audio set up to buy to complement this beauty..btw it should be cheap...because after buying this tv i am borderline broke...hehe...
thanks in advance...

i am posting these tips by panasonic on how to care for your plasma dated 2004 that i found while scouring the net on ways to prevent ir...the recommendations are very hard to follow actually....
Make sure the display is in a viewing mode (aspect ratio) that completely
fills the screen (there are often three or more settings from which to
choose). The panel is shipped in this condition, in what is called the
Just mode.

Turn down the picture control (contrast) to 50% or less.

Briefly engage the 4:3 mode to confirm the side bars are set to mid-gray
(there is usually an adjustment in the Set Up menu that takes the
sidebars from black to gray) to minimize the chance of burn-in.

Return the set to a full screen (Just, Zoom, Full) position during the
first hundred hours of use.

During the first hundred hours of use it is best not to view the same
channel for extended periods. This should prevent channel logos and
other fixed images found on some channels from being retained.

Avoid any static images (video games, computer images, DVD title
screens, etc.) during the hundred-hour break-in.

After the hundred-hour break-in period, during the next nine-hundred hours:

Continue to retain the picture setting at 50% or less.

Limit the use of 4:3 aspect ratio mode (traditional picture size that does
not fill the entire screen) to 15% of viewing time.

Limit the use of static images (computer, video games, etc.) to less than
10% of viewing time.

After one-thousand viewing hours, panels are much less likely to experience
image burn-in.
btw to all the lucky owners has anyone noticed any image retention due to static channel logo on the sets...
isnt it high time the dth providers realize that tv viewers know which channel they are watching due to the interface(epg etc..) of the service so the logos are a bit redundant and still if you want to persist with the logos at least make them translucent..
this logo business affects plasma owners the most i think we should lead the crusade to make indian television logo free...any suggested action plans?

Last year's IR remote will work too.

Be careful with the universal remotes, it should be able to undo also. I had set it on my Sammy Tv, Sammy dvd player and TS, damn it, it refused to work after some time and I couldn't undo the setting for TS Nor could use the TS remote. It got undone only when the TS STB got changed. Weird, I have not used the Universal remote since then.

So you mean to say that the Universal remote changes the internal algorithm of the equipment to connect rather than adjusting to the factory set frequencies?

Well, I am now confused. Am I missing something here?:mad:

Even I am confused. Remotes, universal or others, simply send an IR signal to effect a particular command such as change channel, up/down volume, etc. A remote will never change the IR code - it cannot be changed. I use my Logitech Harmony One remote. Nothing has happened to the TV or any other device.
