Samsung 64F8500 Plasma Discussion Thread

Hello Guys, finally my TV was delivered. The Samsung guy is gonna install it in couple of hours. will get back to you with more details. :)

Excellent... have a good time :)

Make sure you change to Movie mode and don't allow the installation / demo guy to play around in Dynamic or Standard modes. Keep contrast at 80/82 and cell light at 14-15 for first 20 hours or so. You will find only the new touchpad remote so don't be surprised if you don't find the standard button remote.

Keep playing a BD with no black bars for 3-4 hours. You can switch to 16:9 mode just to be safe with the aspect ratio.

All the best...!

go to tweaktv.com
click on Tweak My Tv
choose the brand(which is samsung)
then choose the model number(which is PN64F8500)
there u go...the settings will be displayed....
the settings are only for reference.....then adjust it according to your preference.....

Thank you friends for your warm wishes. Its loooking absolutely wonderful, been too busy with work to click pics and post them here, Promise to post some pics soon.

How about it Shaiju? ready to lead a crusade against samsung for a free regular remote ;):yahoo:

What is wrong with the touch/ magic remote? I think it is powerful and can do lot with this remote. I can control my set-top box, BD player apart from the TV with one remote, it is more like an universal remote.

Anyway, a regular remote may be okay for someone who finds difficulty managing a touchpad. But for people like me who has been using a laptop touch pad for last 10 years or so, it's fine.

I love the touchpad remote, Its fabulous piece of hardware, But many in the family especially elders will find it very hard to use, so a regulare remote for them,

So having two remotes(for free) is better than having just one ;)

I too was worried if my mom would find it difficult to use the news remote. However, that was not to be. She uses it as if nothing changed. The power and volume are easy to locate and use. That's the most family members will use. The mute is also easily accessible. The downside I can think of is the touch remote being a battery guzzler. I had to replace them already.

Will contact for a standard button remote. In our case 2 is better than 1, right?

Hey...

How is it going? Watched SD and what are your impressions?

Hey...

How is it going? Watched SD and what are your impressions?

I am extremely thankful to Shaiju who made sure that my concerns about SD quality were laid to rest by his assurances and I went ahead and bought this TV.

HD Picture quality is out of the world, and so is 3D. this is probably the best 3D I have seen on any TV in my life. :yahoo:

SD looks much better than what I was expecting. Keep in mind that I am still using Cable SD set top box. Neither is it a DTH nor a HD set top box from my local cable guy. even on this SD looks good enough, No major complaints..:ohyeah:

I will be getting HD STB in couple of months, then I believe SD content will look much better.

I haven't been able to spend lot of time watching the TV over last week as work has been real hectic. things will change next week and then I can start uploading some of the Pics...

Hi,

I am very keen buying this TV but I have read many reviews which said that there is an audible buzzing sound from the TV. Some even mentioned that the sound is directional and appears as if it is emitting from the center of the TV. I request the owners in this forum to confirm about the presence of buzzing sound. I am very sensitive to sounds and I would prefer buying a Sony W900 LED in case the Samsung buzzes.

Many thanks for reading my post.

Cheers, Ravi

Hi Ravi,

I do not hear buzzing from my set. It is stand mounted. Not sure it will buzz if wall mounted.

Plasma from any manufacturer can buzz, some depending on the model and some times how they have been mounted.

I have never come across Plasma that buzz - LG, Panasonic and Samsung. Maybe I am not too sensitive to buzz :)

All the best!

Same here. Never got a chance to hear this buzz thing from any plasma I have seen so far. It appears only very sensitive people for buzzing sound only hears it.

Hi All,

Thank you for your replies and I am happy to know that you have not heard the buzzing sound from your TV's.

Flatpanelshd review says 'Just like Panasonics plasma TVs, Samsung F8500 suffers from buzzing. It is audible even from a typical viewing distance; or at least it was on our sample. That is a shame. We know that it can vary from different sets of the TV so chime in and let us hear if you have buzzing on your model'.

There are also threads in AVForums about plasma buzzing.

Unfortunatley most companies in India are not happy if customer returns the products and many may not even accept returns ! So I am not not sure if I can go ahead and buy the F8500 ! I want to buy a 60-65 inches screen and I am aware that this is the best model available in the market.

Cheers, Ravi

Then buy it, and try to figure out immediately after installation whether whatever this BUZZing sound is there or not. If you can hear any buzzing sound, asked them replace it saying that you are not comfortable with that.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
