Samsung 64F8500 Plasma Discussion Thread

64F8500 is indeed amazing, also there is competition between LCD and Plasma you see clearly form the shots that LCD looks like the pic is displayed on some panel who the image on plasma looks like its in thin air, that is because of the depth in the pic almost 3D like.

LG models were quite bad where it mattered the most to me i.e. 2D PQ specially the mixed to dark scenes.

The LCDs that impressed me were Sony HX850, W950, Samsung F7500, F8000. Even a mid to lower end 2013 Samsung have nice panel uniformity that shows decent (not good) blacks. All said, nothing can best these plasma in my view.

J4K,

Pls refer my post with Atonement pictures. Do you think the pictures are too warm? I've adjusted WB and colour space. Skin tones look more real now.

Do you have Atonement and Casino Royale on BD? Try these chapters:
1. Atonement - chapter 1, opening scene where the camera pans across the miniature animals. Unwanted judder, stutter or picture breakup?

2. Atonement - chapter 1, pay close attention to wooden pillars where Briony Tallis walks down to meet her mother. Do you see DFC?

3. Casino Royale - chapter 11, where the camera pans across the table to Bond. Do you see actor's faces breaking up in red and green trails?

2 and 3 were distracting on GT50 but nothing on F8500.

I set BDT220 to 60p just as experiment and played lantern scene from Tangled. The camera pans showed judder. Switching on 24p solved the issue.

I don't have either BDs with me though I have Casino Royale on DVD. I felt the F8500 is very accurate with colours - I could do with a little more gamma - say 2 or 2.2 to make it even warmer skin tone. Try it and see whether it pleases you - it may or may not, afterall it is individual preference.

I always play all BDs with 24p ON.

p/s. I must buy Atonement BD sometime.

Great pics, Shaiju.
To me the picture with the nurse (in the hospital?) looks little yellowish on my screen. Perhaps it is the camera playing tricks?
But in general, the details are excellent and so are the blacks. I can see the blueish tinge in the case of the LG TV.

You are correct in noticing the yellowish shot. Actually, it tends ore towards green. I have readjusted the WB and will post new pics. This time from Casino Royale.

Trying many settings including the one you posted. However that's for the 51".

My display shows to much red. So I've dialled it down more than Mark has done.

try these calibrated settings also....film mode:auto 2(for uk and indian models) and auto 1 for us models)...actually film mode auto 1/2 helps the tv to pass film cadence detection so that no vertical resolution is lost while watching films.....
