Samsung 64F8500 Plasma Discussion Thread

Good price, i called up few places got offers starting from 2 lakh 2 thousand to 1 lakh 93 thousand.Did not push much as i have time till Diwali to buy a set. Airt track sound bar is free with the same. Let's see whats the best price we get for the same.

Did anyone buy extended warranty for thier TV ? How much did it cost and what is the coverage ?
As i was speaking to a samsung engineer who came to inspect my tv today and he said there is still no clarity on what will be the policy and procedures for extended warranty issues and claims as samsung has just started this and its new to them.

Okay , so i hooked the f8500 and started the long process of breaking in. I reduced the contrast and brightness to around 30% and running the break in slides. I normally have the tv running for a few hours and the switch it off and then on for a few hours. I think i am upto 10 hours i suppose. Of what little tv i saw on the defaut settings , i can say this thing is bright for a plasma. On a side note , any suggestions for a ups that would give me some back up to switch off the tv normally incase the electricity goes. I ve been told APC is good. any model number would be helpful. cheers

This TV consumes a lot of power. So you will need a powerful UPS. If going for UPS (with true Sine wave output), you won't need stabilizer/surge guard. Otherwise you will. Please note the VA rating and buy appropriate equipment.

Question for the 8500 users. How many remote came in the box 1 or 2. Did it only come with the smart remote which has the touchpad.

As in US, samsung is offering the regular remote complimentary for free for 64f8500 users. For those interested, found free IR remote link
https://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/notice/remote/index.jsp

Submit form online. Form and picture of free IR remote for US users, do we have any such offer for Indian users. If not maybe its time to call samsung to honor the same.

okay , I manage to figure out that a 1.5 kv sinewave UPS should do the job well for my tv , stb and blue ray player. Anybody has any idea about which is the preferred company to go for. I ve heard APC is good so is luminus. Any model numbers or personal experience would be greatly appreciated. cheers

Dushie, there is only a Bluetooth touch remote bundled. No IR remote. It is sad. I already changed batteries thrice since purchase in June.

Yes. Let's write to Samsung India. Hope they are willing to send us the standard remote.

So I did a really dumb thing last week. Was watching Star World HD almost all evening and left it that way through the night by mistake. So I had the channel running for more than 18 hours. Not surprisingly the channel logo could be clearly seen from 12 ft. I let the set cool down for an hour before switching it on and changing to Zoom mode. Then I ran the pixel shifter from Disney WoW disc and Samsung menu. Well, very happy indeed. Most of the IR is gone, just faintly visible on light colored background.

I also updated to FW 1110. The panel should have done more than 200 hours by now. The picture is absolutely gorgeous. Blacks have improved with same picture settings. I'll get rid of the IR and run-in for few more hours before changing settings.

Best panel I have owned so far. Good day guys :)

Hi.. Just a small doubt.. As you have mentioned I have a exide true sine wave ups for 1.5kva supplying the house with back up power.. I have the tv avr and stb connected to a Belkin gold surge protector and that to one of the ups outlet plug point.. so I will not have a sudden switch off.. You have mentioned that a voltage stabilizer is not required if tv is connected to sinewave ups.. Just wondering if my setup needs a stabilizer.. Please spare a minute.. Thanks in advance

I think stablizer is not required. But just in case it makes you feel safer, have one installed.

There are 2 cases:

1) MAIN POWER ON: When main power is there all the outlets will be having main power coming via UPS ( It will not be pure sinewave output from UPS). So the equipments connected will be affected by any power fluctuations in the main power line. Whether UPS is in the chain or not it is like you are connecting the TV directly to MAIN supply.
In my opinion Stabilizer is needed in this case right? Please correct me if I am wrong.

2) MAIN POWER OFF and UPS in backup mode: In this case all the sockets will be having sinewave output from the UPS generated from the battery. This would be safe and stabilizer is not needed. But then we have to run the UPS in backup/battery mode all the time. This is not the ideal case as we usually UPS run in the backup mode when Power goes off.

I feel having a stabilizer is a good option as it will cover both the above cases.

Online UPS is the answer. basically, power is always coming from batteries. if mains available, it charges the batteries - will not power the equipment directly.

Picked up a line interactive ups. Online obviously was another choice but would be a slight overkill for a tv.

Actually you are wrong. Any decent UPS also regulates the voltage when the MAIN power is on. Therefore, if you have a UPS in the chain, it most certainly is not like the TV is connected directly to the MAIN supply. Also, a voltage stabilizer only regulates the voltage and therefore serves absolutely no purpose for majority of the TVs sold in India. This is because the power supply in most TVs are designed to handle a voltage range of 110-220 volts. The bottom line is, that a TV really does not require a voltage stabilizer or even a UPS for that matter. But if you wish to play it safe, then get an offline UPS.

What's the latest best price people. Online Infibeam price is 1.92 L with soundbar. Snapdeal promises at 1.85 and another 5000 discount making it 1.80 L but no sound bar mentioned. Also they don't deliver to my city (Probably only metros) Am personally wary of Snapdeal so would buy it from the dealers provided they can match online prices but unfortunately none has committed so far. What's the update with you all? Thanks

someone on the price thread has updated to be 1.8L with free soundbar though dealer today

In any case, the bigger problem is that on such a big purchase you prefer to pick up the Tv from a dealer where you can see the Tv. I guess the purchase price also varies a bit from city to city. In Chandigarh tried my best but just can't get the guys you go lower than 1.89 L with sound bar. Booked it anyways. Will pick it up in a day or two!
