Samsung 64F8500 Plasma Discussion Thread

Another thing I really wanted to discuss was extended warranty. Any deals on that? Samsung offers extended warranty for 2, 3 and 4 years at roughly Rs. 5000 per year and warranty can be taken any time within the first year. What are the thoughts on that?

No thoughts , the answer is simple pick up the 3 year warranty extension eyes closed, it will cost less than 10% of the money you spent to buy your TV and you would have peace of mind for the next 4 years. As any issues with the panel or the PCB Samsung would take care of it.

Post installation of the TV, you only need to contact samsung customer care to buy the warranty. Don't delay, go for it while its still available.

I dint get the extended warranty when i got my f6400. It can be opted for at anytime before the expiry of the first year.

It can be opted only if the option is available. There is no guarantee that Samsung would continue to keep the extended warranty offer running. As this is something they are running for the festival. Wether they would continue to offer this is something there is no confirmation about.

Nothing like that. You have an option of extending your warranty at anytime before the expiry of the first year by calling Samsung. It is not dependent on any offer.

I am not aware how long you have been using Samsung products. But earlier there wasn't an option for extending warranty. This is the 3rd Samsung plasma i own in the last 8 years and planning to buy a 4th one shortly. Currently there is an option and for how long they will keep it is something there is no guarantee for. The same has been confirmed by the Samsung service engineer who visited my place. He even said that he is not aware what would the approach be towards servicing customers in extended warranty. As if they do not have spares available , will they offer buy back or replace with another TV.

FYI ... i have a 3 year old Plasma for which parts are not available and Samsung is buying back as it cant be repaired. Till the time i get my cheque from Samsung i am in constant touch with the service engineer and local manager in charge for service.

It's your call if you wish to go for the same now or later.

This is correct. Whenever i ask for extended warranty during the demo in show room they told me only for samsung lcd led there is an option for extended warranty. No additional warranty for plasma other than 1yr standard warranty.

It is good that now that option is there for plasma.

Hi All,

After months of research I purchased the 64 inches plasma yesterday. I got a great deal, 1.70 L including the sound bar. I have not opted for the sound bar and I got a further discount of 8K, so I ended up paying 1.62 L, the TV will be delivered today. If any one is genuinely interested buying the TV in Hyderabad please get in touch with me and I'll share the contact details of the person who got me this deal.

I would request the owners in this forum to confirm if the usage hours code works (Mute, 7, 3, 7, OK) and of any of you have checked it on your TV!

I have decided to buy a 3 years extended warranty once the TV is installed.

I still have the option of picking up the sound bar by paying 8K. Please advise if it is worth spending.

I also got a 51F5500 for a friend of mine for 65K including the free blue ray player. I think he also got it for a steal !

Thanks to all the members in this forum for their inputs/ feedback on the TV, your inputs have greatly helped me in taking a decision.

Regards.

Congratulations you got a good deal. I had bought it for Rs 2.2Lakhs in June 13. Great value for money and a videophile product especially the HD channels

Congrats on your purchase!!! It is a very good deal.

I have used the following procedure to check the usage hours (google search)
------------
While the TV is in standby mode:
Press the {INFO}, {MENU}, {MUTE} & {POWER} buttons.

The TV will turn on with the Service Menu displayed.
Use the {UP} or {DOWN} buttons to select "SVC"
"PANEL DISPLAY TIME" will be one of the items listed.

To exit, press the {POWER} button.

I had old Samsung LCD TV, so used that remote. Don't know how to do it with the Smart remote which came with 64f8500.

Congratulations high... good going and super deal. Enjoy the tv. Make sure you keep cell light to 12 or below and contrast between 80 and 85 for first few hours of viewing time.

That is a fantastic price. Go easy on the contrast and brightness for the first week and avoid extended periods of static images. Enjoy your set.

I spoke to the warranty support team and they have confirmed that the extended warranty can be purchased anytime before the 1st year warranty expires, this is applicable to plasma TV also. The cost of 3 yes warranty is 12600 INR plus ST and VAT and I understand that the prices were brought down a month before.

Cheers, Ravi

Thank you all :) apart from the brightness and contrast settings are there any other things I should be careful with ? please advise. We watch Tata Sky SD channels, Blu ray and DVD movies mostly. Does the TV has some breakin slides or other related software ?

Many thanks for all your advise.

Ravi

Hi Shaiju, you are one of the first owners of this TV in India and I have been reading your posts since long. Did you get a chance to check the usage hours? I just don't want to be taken for a ride by the delear and hence checking on this again.

Thank you

Ravi

Stick to ' movie ' profile. contrast and brightness around half way mark. Every other image enhancement option off. Avoid watching movies blue ray or dvd with horizontal black lines till the phosphorous ages. For SD channels keep flipping the channles every 30 mins or so. Make sure a channel logo is not static for extended periods. You can download break in slides from google to speed up the break in process. Usually the first 100 hours is when the tv is more susceptible to IR. Lastly dont get paranoid over it and watch regular tv with varied content coz that is what you ve bought it for.

I had old Samsung LCD TV, so used that remote. Don't know how to do it with the Smart remote which came with 64f8500.

Thank you. The TV was delivered last night and I shall get it installed on Saturday. I have checked the smart remote and it has Menu, Mute and Power buttons, the 'Info' button is missing, is there any way I can check the usage hours using the smart remote? Has any of the existing owners tried this using the smart remote?

If I manage to get a Samsung TV old remote (probably one of the last years models) will I be able to check the usage hours on the F8500 ? please advise.

Also I request your inputs on my below queries:

1. I have a strong feeling that the unit is a demo model as the mfg date says-July 2013, this model was always availble on 'order only' and i doubt if any delears have July models now !

I would request the recent purchasers to let me know the mfg date printed on their TV box.

2. Does the bazel come with a protective polythene wrap which is normally peeled off once the TV is installed? I saw one demo piece in the showroom with the protective peel off wrap.

My TV does not have one and hence checking on this.

3. Are there any other ways to know if my Samsumg F8500 is a demo/ used piece? I have checked the 'Checklist to avoid demo piece thread' but did not find any specific info about the F8500 model.

Regards, Ravi
